The reason that Disney can now use the image of Oswald the Rabbit, sell shirts and dolls of it, etc, is because in 2006, NBC/Universal traded (yes, traded) the rights to Oswald to Disney in exchange for the Sportscaster Al Michaels (who had been working Monday Night Football games for ABC). At that point, Michaels and his on-air partner John Madden began doing Sunday Night Football games on NBC.

I am in my late 50's and I have Muscular Dystrophy. A year and half ago my diaphragm became paralyzed. I was placed on ventilator and must use 100% of time. I call it Living on life support. 6 months later the rest of my body became 100% paralyzed below the neck. I know, your wondering how I could type this. I have a computer that tracks my eyes. Now, this not a pity party, I have lived an incredible life. I am a retired judge. I served for 9 years. Prior to that I served as Legislative Liaison for the State Senate President. There are many other exciting things that I done and accomplished all from a wheelchair. When I lived in California I would go to Disneyland several times a year. I miss it a lot. It sounds like you did a lot of good in your life -thus far! Still there is life to be enjoyed and making others feeling loved, included and feel their equality should be our highest priority. God bless you in the rest of life’s adventures! BTW, I’ve not accomplished anything close to what you have but, I know I tried to do most everything I did to the best of my ability. Unfortunately that bit is in error. Red and Blue stitching on baseballs began in 1901 for the American League. The national league began to use red and black stitching in 1911. I thought originally Mortimer Mouse is the first name of what later became Mickey Mouse, based on any history of Disney I have ever heard of before. "Mickey was created as a replacement for a prior Disney character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. The character was originally to be named "Mortimer Mouse", until Walt Disney's wife, Lillian, suggested "Mickey"."

Thank you for what you said about people with disabilities and other health issues. I fit in both categories with physical disabilities (joint contractures, vision and mild hearing loss), developmental delays, and severe depression/anxiety. When my mom and I went to Disney World for the first time in 2007, I was 27. We rented a wheelchair at every park except Downtown Disney, do to stamina issues. The one good part about having disabilities is that a lot of times you can go in through the exit and not have to stand in long lines. For shows, wheelchairs tend to get front row seats. My favorite picture that my mom took was at the Lion King show whe Timon kissed my hand. Disney definitely tries to go all out to accommodate people with disabilities. A shout out to anyone with a disability, you're not alone. At 44, I am an advocate for people with disabilities in Ohio. I am also trying to publish a poetry book for and about people with various disabilities.

Actually, the Spalding brothers bought Reach sporting goods company in 1889. In 1901 they developed and American League ball that was signified by red and blue stitching until 1934 under the Reach name. So it is untrue that red and blue was only 1928. The National League ball had red and black stitching and was the first time the Spalding name was put on a baseball.

I've done backstage tours at Epcot and the Magic Kingdom There are so many things the Imagineers have included on all the parks. For example, in the square at the park entrance end of Main Street in the Magic Kingdom, the second floor windows all gave business names posted. They are the names of the Imagineers who designed and executed the park. Only one shop window in the castle plaza has a business name, facing the castle - WED Enterprises - Walter E. Disney. Also, as you move from land to land, a change in pavement texture and color and a slight uphill or downhill ques your body to the change of locale. When the daytime parade floats on Main street turn away at the end, dressers help pull the characters costumes, and they are sent to showers to cool down. In the basement queue area at the Tower of Terror, new dust is put out regularly, and the sent of hot solder is put in the air near the workbench. So many, many more things everywhere!

7:32 @Chris Sorry, small error in your facts, The baseball stitches of red and blue were used by the Atlantic League from 1901 to the merger into Major League standards of red only in 1934, the National League had used red and black so when MLB made the standard we can only guess they picked the common colour in both leagues so nobody argued. Before 1901 plain tan leather laces had been used and we guess the colour was added to make the ball rotation more visible for the batters. UK baseball fan.

I only knew about the double header game! And I always wondered why we can only find Oswald stuff in the front! Now I know! Also, thank you for that special message. When I had cancer a few years ago, your videos were a bright light of hope that I'd make it back to Disney again one day. And I did! We went for my cancer-free celebration trip when J finished treatment. So thank YOU for being awesome!!

I was like, Hey Chris there's a pretty lady following you closely out of the Oswald store... and then I was like oh yeah, he's married to her! That's an amazing bit of information for the Kingswell shop tiles! I'll definitely check it out the next time I visit the resort.

I gotta be honest, I didn't expect to make it through 2 minutes of this video. The curiosity got the better of me so I clicked it. I'm on a hard Disney boycott but history is history, and I'm a student of history, and I found this video to be absolutely fascinating. Thank you for making it.

I just found your video today and stopped after you paused and made such kind and thoughtful words of support and encouragement to those going through a tough time. As a mental health professional, I had to jump in and say how beautiful that was to see. I provide therapy to numerous people whose mental health has been drastically impacted by their physical health. Hearing what you said might have been life changing to them in that moment. The world needs more people like you 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Now, back to your video 😁

All the books and merchandise that keep Walt Disney afloat on a shelf. He cared more about Mickey Mouse than the hole he was digging for himself. But Mickey Mouse was a hit. One of the first merchandise figure ever. The first man to synchronize sound to film. Is that true? Well it brought him the money to make films. But let's not forget his passion/obsession with the mouse. With the mouse in hand and debt up to his knees. He drew up the first ever visnary board. Now callled blue prints. Of Disneyland, but it all came back to a silly drawing of a mouse and his creator. The story of Walt is so vast that books could be written on him for years. So many secrets still being found. Almost hidden at times.

Chris, I beg to differ about your claim of Walt and Ub working at Universal. What actually happened was that Walt and Ub were asked by Charles Mintz (his distributor) to produce a character that Mintz would, for some reason, would co-distribute with Universal. And after 26 cartoons, Walt and his wife Lillian went to New York, hoping to get a budget increase for the next set of cartoons, Mintz told him that he would only agree to a cut, claiming Universal owned the rights to the character. After refusing Mintz's terms, Walt and Lilly headed back to Los Angeles, and on that train ride, according to legend , was where Walt came up with Mickey Mouse. And finally, Mintz's claim that Universal owned Oswald would come back to bite him, when Universal decided to kick him and his animation staff out and have Oswald produced in-house by Walter (Woody Woodpecker) Lantz.

I was a cast member in 2012 and was present on the day of the Buena Vista Street opening and story telling training that led up to the opening. We didn’t learn about any of these hidden gems or details and this is amazing! I wonder if there was a bit of reimagining the area as the years have gone on and what level of lore has been created. It wasn’t a trained detail for the sidewalk and and delineation of Oswald’s space vs. Mickey’s space. An example of lore passed on by CMs is that the crest on the front of the castle is Walt’s coat of arms. However, if you went into the heraldry shop on the other side you could see Walt’s actual heraldry coat of arms and it was not the same. CM’s ardently believed this lore and passed it on as fact. It’s not a good thing or bad thing. It’s just what happens.

Thank you for doing the part about the disabled person being important. Because I'm disabled and I really needed to hear that. I matter and can make a difference to I do try to reach out and remind others they matter. And that they make a difference with every life that they touch with just on how you're a smile. The sometimes you feels good to hear that I matter too. Thank you, and just wanted to let you know. This video was actually pretty awesome and I learned a lot. Thank you so much.❤❤❤❤❤❤

More please. It should be noted that all of the types of items talked about in this video were never in place at DCA until they re-did the park. The original DCA lacked history and detail, and even though most of the guests never knew the facts discussed here, everyone felt the lack of detail and charm. It goes to show that those design choices have a subtle yet powerful and recognized effect on people, even if they are unaware of them.
