Hey Mattsme - I’m really happy you like the series! Funny that you mentioned Rome - that’s initially where I was looking for this music. The man who creates this music is named Karunesh - he’s a German who was really into middle eastern and Asian music - so changed his name to the Hindu god of compassion.. Took me a while to track him down and get permission to use his work. The name of the song is called Ali Baba - but he’s got a ton of material that I love. Unfortunately it also glosses over the constant and never ending civil unrest and internal wars not only between Christians and Muslims but most often between the Muslim groups themselves. a good civilization is one that progresses towards perfection, a bad civilization is one raised IN this perfect country and takes everything for granted. as long as men are struggling to improve life we do better, but when we have this perfection we go yo hell. men do better when struggling to improve and bent on destroying it when we have it. we have the heroes like Patton, MacArthur and Roosevelt and powerful men like trump that make decisions that dont build a better world. not to sat he is bad but we have Cesar and Brutus.

@@FlashPointHx That may be so - but that was not what the semantic meaning of your statement in the video - that is that the Umayyad DYNASTY...in generel...was founded in Al andalus. And now that I have you.... First: Your videos are most helpful to me though Real Crusades History better manages to capture the ‘athmosphere’ back then. But at a certain point you very wrong ! You keep talking about tolerance, but in every breath stating the enslavement of non muslims and even second rate converted muslims proving the point that the Sharia political ideology is Arab supremacistic totalitarianism.....just like today where Bangladesh muslim migrant workers are offered the same slave conditions as non muslims building soccer stadiums. The Maliki school of prudence where followed to the letter - the islamic Jizya for dhimmis is slavery no matter the exemption for the ditto zakat - and consequently the occupied peoply paid for the upkeep of the occupants tyrani. Despite your sugarcoating and that the Visigoths were not being attempted genocided like the pagan Hindus by the Moguls in the Indian subcontinent later in history the dhimmis in al Andalus had it no better or worse than dhimmis anywhere else under sharia rule.....even by standards of today various places in the world since the concept slavery always will remain integrated within - due to the doktrin that whatever the so called prophet allowed can never be prohibited and what he forbade can never be allowed. There is NOTHING beautiful to be said about it - unless the pre WW2 war Nazi occupation of Eastern Europe can be justified - The non muslims in al Andalus was as enslaved as as dhimmis anywhere else in the Islamic world. And all the beautifull stories of Andalus being the sole center of acient Greek tekst being translated - into non Arabic(!) - has been challenged with good reason. Constantinople first fell in 1453 - why would those original texts catured by Arabs and more not flow to Europe at that way? Gugenheimer has establish that Aristotle was translated in Normandy meaning Christian translations were the source of Arab translations and not vice versa. The ‘beautiful’ narrative has no merit. Internal fighting on both sides was a result of the Visigoth tradition of kings dividing their realms between all their sons not mention 3 other players of different ethnic origin and Andalus descendance into fractions so why would the old rule that the enemy of your enemy is friend not apply as usual? Even the Pope started the first crusade in the peninsula - not in the holy land and when those crusades got going the later pope ordered knights of Galicia, Leon, Castille, Navarra, Aragorn and Catania to remain and focus on reconquista. In generel the ambition on both Christian and muslim sides not matter what was to totally subdue the other. Internal rivalry from time to time and some random rulers on both sides doing nothing during their reign does NOT refute that fact ! Reconquista took close to 800 years - what do you expect? Of course occational rulers forgot the big picture or being too bogged down to make a difference. There literally was no chance before the ‘caliphate’ disintegrated into taifas and Leon/Castille had the ‘muscle’ in the mid 11th century. So.... You are not debunker - but a participator in the creation of a myth. First started by a refugee of Franco Spain seeking to undermine his power base: The church. PS: I wish you would push the myth of the Andalusian paradise. Your videos could have been just as informative without that politically founded bias. I suppose you have a different agenda than mine since you do not live in Europe were that bogus narrative is used as leverage to quash opposition to unregulated immigration. What you describe as tolerance was/is no different than any other enlaved dhimmi society under sharia rule...which is far beyond the point of tolerance in generel....just look to Pakistan....so I think you disrespect all the victims. Especially the ‘tradition’ of virgin girls claimed by Al-Rahman each year as tribute.... .....but apparantly you have a more important agenda(?)

When were Humans ever just? Muslims weren't perfect but most of Islamic history wasn't not great turmoil for people of the book. Today millions of Christians and Jews live in historical pockets throughout middle east untouched. Yes, there were periods of great instability, of new interpretations of arised, where dhimmis were attacked and killed but they were infrequent. Muslims were entirely killed, evacuated from Spain, Malta, Sicily, Portugal, Crete, Rhodes. They were cleansed entirely by Christians who claim to live a christ-like life, which Jesus was man of great mercy. Spain for 700 years of Muslim rule, Christians were majority even in Andalusia as well as 600 years of ottoman presence in Balkans, had not exterminated the christian orthodox identity majority of those nations. This proves point of Islam. This great political smear of modern Islam after 9/11 by U.S. popular media and the world is sad, we became the new negro of American lynching campaigns.

All 3 religions have exploited the other 2 and each other. In the end, we are all brothers but that doesn’t change history. And yes you are not a victim.

The invasion of Sicily started in the early 9th Cen and was taken by 902 - but it was the Aghlabids who were a vassal to the Abassids. I must disagree with the notion that they tried and tried to subdue Asturias to no avail. Periodically raiding territories that were not to be conquered was indeed common practice throughout history in all civilisations. A lucrative sport/pastime, no more. We must acknowledge that the land beyond the Cantabrian Mountain Range was poor, rugged and very hard for agriculture, and the sea in the Bay of Biscay was too deep and so unfit for fishing (indeed Basques and Bretons are known to have sailed as far as Newfoundland precisely due to the lack of catch in their neighbouring waters), as well as full of pirates. Neither the Romans nor the Arabs had any real interest, ever, to fully settle there. The Romans kept legions in the region throughout their occupation in order to protect their mining enterprises but no real cities were ever founded there (modern-day Lugo, Astorga and León all were later developments from an original Roman military camp, not a colony). It is important not to exaggerate the invincibility of the Astures, Cantabri and Vascones and their descendants in the kingdoms of Asturias and Pamplona. They were fierce warriors, yes, but they were nothing compared to the might of the Roman and Islamic empires.
@FlashPointHx
@FlashPointHx 5 жыл бұрын
I agree that they were no match for both the Romans and the Islamic Caliphs - but they new how to use the mountainous terrain to their benefit. In the end, raiding - as you mentioned, became the only lucrative pursuit - But when the mighty Caliphate fell, Asturias and then the later Leon / Castile / Navarre would retake the peninsula in time

England had more serious and devastating defeats against the Spanish Armada than the Invencible Fleet defeat against the bad weather,. Of course those are well hidden by the “black legend”’against Spain built over the centuries by the English , the Dutch and the French. Go back and review well the historical data and you will see the dominance of the Spanish fleet for at least 100 years after Queen Elizabeth. Go ask who was Blas de Lezo whom defeated an English fleet with 30,000 men and more than 180 ships with 2000 cannons. That was over 140 years after Elizabeth was born, in 1741. Spain defeated 22 times the British navy. The Counter Navy was also defeated by the Spanish Armada with a more serious blow to England with 40 sunken ships in the reign of Elizabeth I. Sorry, Hollywood is not history.

England may have had more serious defeats, but this one is the one that most people can relate to. The idea of using this example was to give those who may not be that familiar with history, a touch stone reference point.

abd al rahman III was white. His mother was a spanish Christian. he had blue eyes and blonde hair and It is said he used to paint his beard in black to look like more arab. and even if he was full arab, árabs are not black, quite the opposite. you have to study more geography and genétics but anyway i cant ask much from someone with that photo and called "LGBT" XD. These kind of fanatic and ignorant jerks think everyone outside Europe or usa is black
