I read that as Dickie wrote Out Of Focus, the other guys in the band were not sure he was going to make it.

Leigh Stephens was fired by the other two. Lots of reasons were given but it came down to the other two being strung out and not wanting a "straight" guy among them. I'm sure Leigh was "aloof" towards them also because of the other two's "recreational endeavors". Too bad because Leigh Stephens was a huge reason the 1st two albums are so good. I'm so happy that Leigh and Dickie got to play together in 2005, they sounded great and I hope they had a great time playing

Leigh joined the National Guard rather than possibly being drafted into the Vietnam war. My dad was his nbunkmate. That’s the truth

I'm in the Blue Cheer family. I knew Dickie ,Paul and Eric Albronda who was in the original lineup and became the manager and have told me some crazy stories of the early days ❤ We miss Dickie and Paul. I still talk to Randy on occasion

I feel your pain about missing the band by one day - but I think I've got you beat. My sad story of missing Blue Cheer…twice. Sometime in the 1980s I was selling at a record show in Waterbury, CT. A guy asked me if I had any Blue Cheer records. I happened to have 2 Dutch picture sleeve singles. I showed them to him, and he said they were great live. Now I knew he could not have been more than 25, so I asked him if he had seen the band. He replied that he had…they had played the night before in New Haven. OK, I was shocked and pissed - didn’t know about the show. Totally ruined my day. Then fast forward about 20 years. I don’t know why but I was telling this story to one of the guys at work. We used to talk about music and bands we had seen. John was a really good drummer and had interesting taste in music. So half way through my ranting, John starts laughing. I said what’s so funny. He said, “I saw Blue Cheer.” I said he was full of crap…but he said no, he wasn’t kidding. He saw them at a place called Bar in New Haven. I said “What the hell you tell me about every damn band you’re going to see but you don’t tell me about Blue Cheer!” He told me that it wasn’t planned. When he got home a friend asked him if he wanted to go to New Haven for a beer and see a band. They had no idea who Blue Cheer was. Imagine that I missed Blue Cheer twice by one day…and both times they had played in New Haven. I am cursed!!!

Leigh Stevens left because he joined the National Guard. It was during Vietnam and he was bunk mates with my dad. And Dad made Leigh my godfather. So the godfather of heavy metal is my actual godfather 🤣🤣🤣
