I’ve loved Bottega since the first time I saw the Intrecciato weave, the workmanship and soft intrecciato leather, beautiful. I enjoy that the brand is understated and foregoes the insignias popular today. The quality speaks for itself in a discrete tone and fellow lovers appreciate it but it’s never so bold as to make anyone feel less than because they don’t have the same. The perfect combination of quality and class. Thank you for such a comprehensive study on my favorite.

Other rumors stated that employees at Bottega weren’t happy with Daniel Lee’s work practices and bad communication. Many employees were leaving or wanted to leave. Don’t know if Lee will go work with Phoebe on her new brand … I think it seems unlikely considering he showed his capability in being a commercial success by himself.

Nowadays almost every designer or creative director leaves the brand to start their own label or to join another brand. That’s the modern day ahhaa. Apart from the biggest fashion designer houses like LV, Gucci, Dior Etc… Phoebe’s own label could be on the same level as them since Celine already up there

I’d love to see a video on Celine, particularly emphasising Phoebe Philo’s era. I wasn’t keeping up with fashion news at the time of her departure from the brand, but even I caught news of her leaving - and even now all these years later, people still discuss her time at Celine (with instagram accounts dedicated to her era).

Bottega Green is really “Slime Green”. Shoutout Thugger, Lil Keed and them boys. Daniel is a culture vulture at the highest level, it’s actually quite impressive when you think about how Gucci has Dapper Dan & LV had Virgil.

Although, the difference is that Virgil was actually the creative director of the LV brand. Dan only joint ventured with Gucci, thus allowing his name to be placed on designs that he may or may not have had himself. Nonetheless, the world of creativity needs collaborative minds.

Thank you so much for putting this together! Extremely interesting and informative. I would love to get your thoughts on Loewe and specifically Jonathan Anderson’s current tenure as their creative director. I feel like JW Anderson, Phoebe Philo, and Daniel Lee are the people I’m looking to for radical softness and a sense of luxury that’s grounded in craftsmanship and design, not logos. Though Loewe has some brand-y pieces, I think the signature pieces that JW Anderson has introduced like the puzzle, hammock, and Anton bags have been all about craftsmanship and construction over logos. Also CANNOT wait for the Loewe x Spirited Away collection dropping this week

Weird that you didn’t bring up the actual reason he got fired, which is the most prominent rumor. Apparently he had insane work practices and had the employees up at night and sleeping during the day, I also read that several upper crusts quit out of retaliation so that’s why Kering stepped in to stop a possibly walk out against Daniel.
