CP #2816 history. CP #2816 is based on the New York Central hudsons. CP #2816 was built by MLW as a class H-1-B 4-6-4 hudson. It survived into preservation and was restored to operating condition and pulled excursions until 2013 when they took the emprees out of service and stored the locomotive until the CPKC merger success. They completed the overhaul of CP #2816 and she's undergoing test runs as of July 1st 2023. Preparing for the big transnational excursion.

Hearing that whistle is actually a Selkirk whistle makes me not hate it anymore.. but I still prefer her CP 6 chime.

Good video. Although the only thing you got wrong is that 2816 didn't get pulled from service for a 15 year rebuild in 2013 as that's only a thing in the US. Not Canada. Still, a nice history video on my third fav Canadian Pacific steamer and am looking forward to seeing her run to Mexico City.

You're right, that isn't the reason 2816 was pulled from service. However, my understanding is that the steam locomotive boiler regulations are actually the same in both the United States and Canada.

@theUP844 yeah it was a bolier inspection. That was all that was needed and Approval for Maniline use. And now it has both of that which is Great.

Hey if CSX has a steam program in the future thanks to their new growing heritage units they might ask CPKC if they can lease the Empress to run excursion trips on the former NYC Water Level Route from Buffalo to Albany. For the first time a Hudson rides the rails of the New York Central Railroad. Oh fun fact 2816 is actually an ALCO product the Montreal Locomotive Works was ALCO’s Canadian subsidiary. CPKC might cosmically change 2816 to masquerade as a New York Central J1-b Hudson. After all the two classes are cousins.
