Me and my dad rode Body Wars a few days before the pavilion closed. Just as the film was beginning, the shield suddenly went back up. Most likely, the other simulators were cycling through, and we were trapped. While waiting for rescue, the ride operators began piping in "A Pirate's Life For Me" to keep us entertained. Eventually, we were rescued and put in another simulator, which worked perfectly. Little did I know I was bearing witness to entire pavilion essentially being on its deathbed...

It's a shame that the Wonders of Life closed down. It was a one of reasons that I became interested in biology from an early age. That interest became the driving force that pushed me to pursue a career in medicine. I had hoped to one day bring my children to Epcot and share with them the things that had such a large impact on me.

It's unfortunate that the entirety of EPCOT has seemingly moved away from learning, art, and culture. It has, of late, more focused on the money-making aspects. I understand why Disney has to do this, truly, but it used to be so different. I adored the entire atmosphere!

@@aliciahelton4246 The thing is that Disney /doesn't/ have to do it. They're a multi-billion dollar company, owners of the biggest franchises on the planet. They don't have to wring every single dollar out of their customers, but they do anyways.

@@echowoods7977 , I agree, wholeheartedly. However, supply and demand show different patterns from guest surveys. People who go into the parks (except those of us who fondly remember the old Epcot) want thrills. Disney must keep up with the Jones, it seems. I also pay attention to the newer generations of Disney fans in my Facebook groups who consistently say that Epcot is tired, bored, and dated. They rate it on the bottom of parks, unless they are really into the food, culture, and festival experience.

As a Californian I have to disagree with you when you say that he talks too fast, however I can understand why people from places with different dialects or people that aren't native English speakers could have troubles hearing him clearly.
@IsItModern
@IsItModern 7 жыл бұрын
I can understand him, that's not the problem. The problem is he speaks so fast that he flubs and mumbles words like "pavilion". He's not talking at "documentary speed." I promise you, if you look up any documentary, no narrators talk as fast as he does. It's jarring. It sounds like he's on a timer and if he doesn't get the words out, the bomb will go off. Just like you wouldn't have do your voiceover by shouting every word, you shouldn't have your voiceover sound like it's in a marathon. Again, Californian or not, go watch any documentary. No voiceover actor talks that fast.

IsItModern completely agree, he's talking much too fast to both look at the images and absorb the content being spoken. He also does run many words together and "flub" like you said. I'm a native English speaker from the States, so that's really not the issue here.

my one and only trip to epcot and I remember the wonders of life attractions really well ... mostly because as a 12 yr old i wanted to go on the wonder cycles... as i queued to get my chance I was asked by my mom to to look after my then 3 yr old brother at as my other brother wanted to go on body wars ride again.. i finally got to ride the cycles and within a minute of starting my ride my brother disappeared from the side of the cycle .. we lost him for over a hour the whole of the pavilion was locked down no other park guests could come in or go out.. as security searched for him they finally found him in the Goofy about health show... he had watched it three times...

Going in the convention center is a little sad. My brother and I have fond memories of the sensory play area, Cranium Command, the works. We went back during food & wine late last year and were shocked by how dated the building is. The flooring, the plants. The ruddy way the light comes in. We took a few pictures of places we recognized, and are still looking for photos of us as kids in the pavilion to compare them to.

The Wonders of Life can re-open with an Inside Out theme. Body Wars into Fear Vs The Germs, which could be about Fear and us must travel through Riley's Body to defeat some Germs. Cranium Command into Cranium Command 2.0, where the workers on Riley's Mind give you a tour to the Main Control room where the main emotion gang gives you a presentation of how they do their work. The Martin Short Ride can be the same, except they put on the queue that it's a VHS that Joy found in an old Misney Box and wants to re create the old Martin Short Movie. The Goofy Show can be replaced by a similar one, but themed after Bing Bong. They could also use some of the same games in the middle of the center, except they are themed after Inside Out.

@mevb

The only problem with Inside Out being used for a Body Wars replacement is that he whole thing is set in the mind like Cranium Command, the movies "inspiration", so Joy, Fear and the rest couldn't travel around the body, only in the mind (basically the brain and all it's functions regarding thinking, imagination, evolving, logic and so on). Inside Out would have been a great substitute for Cranium Command though as they have similar ideas, concepts and setting.

My only memories of this building were: getting violently sick on Body Wars, and the moment when I volunteered during a live show featuring a host and two twins who would speak alternately for every other word. They were answering questions about the human body, and, being young, and a clown, I asked "Why did the dolphin splash the whale?" They tried to answer, in which I grabbed the mic and said "He did it on porpoise" (a joke I heard on Muppet Babies), and I returned to my family among a crowd of laughing, with my siblings cheering me on, my dad mortified that I made a spectacle of myself, and my mom, who knew exactly what I was going to do, trying so hard not to laugh. Ah, good memories.

Does anyone else find stuff like this super unnerving? Things that changed drastically, or were cancelled or abandoned before I was born are particularly creepy to me. I can only describe the feeling that these stories give me as terrifying, unsettling, and strange. I've felt this way since seeing parts of my local zoo change when I was around four. Suddenly, what used to be so familiar to me, was now just... gone. Same thing with cancelled and lost media.

Really digging these videos and the format is very well thought out and professional. I recall there being a place at Epcot called Innovations, much like the one that is still there today, but filled with TONS of Sega Genesis and Nintendo games. This was during the mid-90's and it was an absolute blast. Now innovations is just...about paint? I dunno.

I did enjoy going to the Wonders of Life back in the day. I would go on Body Wars, but felt it was a slightly better than average ride (worth a ride if I could get on relatively quickly). I did enjoy the stationary bicycles (I'd set it to either Disneyland or Microworld) and the Sensory exhibits. However, my favorite thing there was easily Cranium Command! I absolutely LOVED that show and was really sad when it went away. One thing I've seen mentioned elsewhere (Abandoned I think?) was that the design was very much a product of the 90's. I can definitely see it. Of course, I'd heard that Horizons was very much a product of the 80's, and I'm not sure what an "80's look" really is (maybe I was just too much into that era). Still, I did feel the look of the place became pretty dated rather quickly (not that I minded, but I did notice).

They also announced in 2019 the Play pavilion which would be an interior reconstruction of the pavilion that would be a fun interactive experience for kids and construction would start a year late in 2021 because of the pandemic. However because of budget cuts in the EPCOT redevelopment program the Play pavilion would be cancelled/postponed indefinitely in a half finished state so currently the pavilion is now a mostly abandoned construction site.

I just discovered your videos, and I always appreciate these; fantastic job! More on topic, I must have been one of the few who truly loved that pavilion; it was my favorite, sans Horizons. In fact, I was furious to find that I had just missed out on it's closing, as I had picked up my first annual pass to WDW just after. I didn't actually realize that it had closed, until I attended an event located in its corporate offices above, and was confused as to why it was so empty. In hindsight, I wish I'd taken more photos of the now defunct location as we left. Oh well...

Goofy About Health is a little bit more than you give credit for. Sure, it mostly showed clips from various Goofy cartoons during the 40's and 50's, especially from the Everyman Goofy/George Geef cartoons and How to/The Art of Cartoons but the show had a narrative to it: Goofy lived an unhealthy life, staying up late for too long for several nights, smoked a lot, had excess of eating and drinking alchohol etc. caused him to be stressed at work and home and eventually becomes sick and when the Doctor (an original character voiced by Kal David who also voiced Sonny Eclipse, another Disney World character) he was diagnosed with several health problem such reduced lung and liver capacity, to name a few. With some struggeling Goofy managed to quit smoking, eat and drink moderatly and starts excerizing, he ends up living a healthier and happier life.

Its still sad to see some of the recent footage of WoL, and see it so abandoned, so derelict. Wow! this was amazing! :D I love how much you researched on this! I miss this pavilion so much! If they dare to do an Inside Out pavilion. I couldn't mind it and love to see what imagineers could do in the interior space for that pavilion. I do think that when Inside out was in concert some Pixar animation must have researched Cranium Command for ideas! I use to not like that attraction, but years later. I have grown to it. Its such a fun and cute attraction. It needs to make a nostalgic comeback! Now do a History of Journey of Imagination at Epcot!

I enjoy that ride as well. I have yet to dislike a Disney attraction. I do think it's one that's run its course. I like it for being faithful to the original values of Epcot while trying to stay entertaining to newer audiences, but it's getting dated.

That ride is miserable. Takes up a ton of space and really boring. Slow moving cars in a movie theatre.

God, they need to use more of Yanni's music in Epcot. His work is so beautiful!!! Only 3 of his songs have been used, 2 in Wonders of Life and one in Fountain View (unless I'm missing some).
