This is something that noone asked for: how i remeber that how a RBKM 1000 Reactor works: there are multiple parts, Fuel channels, Control Rods, steam separators, pumps and turbines and ETC. The core is Graphite moderated so where the fuel is kept is in graphite so the neurons would be able to split. the control rods are made of boron that reduces reactivity inside the core, the tips of the rods are made of Graphite that accelerates reactivity inside the core. the way how most nuclear reactors work is that more heat=less power but the RBKM 1000 Reactor at chernobyl was the opposite, the more the heat more power. Pumps: pumps are used to pump water to the core so it won't overheat. After the water is used it goes to Steam separators and then it goes to power the Turbines of the plant and then either return to the cycle or into the Feedwater basement. Extras: SCRAM (A3-5) A3-5 or AZ-5 is a shutdown button used in the Chernobyl The reason for the A3-5 detonating unit 4 is because it was Time for safety checks the core was xenon poisoned. The Reactor was at its last brinl. When the shutdown button was initiaded after 4 seconds it blew up, The graphite of the control rods was inserted into the core first, so all of the water vaporized form the core creating more pressure, when the boron rods reached the fuel, it was too late. Unit 4 that was designed to operate at 3,200 megawatts. Went over 33,000. Noone knew the real number. It was probably over 90,000 megawatts. Thx for reading this if you didn't read go read it now.
