You forgot to mention that Ottomans who brought the coffee from Yemen to current Turkey, opened their first coffee houses and it was initially banned to drink coffee because of the intellectual gatherings in the coffee shops then Ottomans took the coffee to Vienna , Austrians used their own way of breeding it vs the Turkish coffee and it spread all over Europe and world from there. I love coffee btw!

First Coffee Houses was opened in Yemen and Hejaz in western Arabia in particular at least 100 years before Ottomans conquered Arabia, as record from late Mamluk era indicates. When Selim I conquered Hejaz via Egypt in 1513, he ordered a full closure on Coffee Houses and banned Arabians drinking coffee by taking a fatwa from Shiekhul-Islam in Constantinople, because Coffee Houses resembled the places were Arabians can gather and discuss politics freely since Arabians were loyal to the Mamluks in Egypt and never fully submitted to the Ottomans. Then his son Sulieman the Magnificent lifted the ban on coffee upon conquering Yemen in 1538, and exported Coffee beans from Yemen to Constantinople and from there to Europe. However, Coffee Houses have lost its essence and meaning in Arabia and never fully recovered from the coercive Ottoman ban :( The tradition of drinking Coffee is forever going to be associated with the national traditions of Arabians who excel in preparing it in so many different authentic unique ways, no matter if you call it "Turkish" Coffee or not! Arabian traditional Coffee includes Cardamom and or Saffron and its prepared in a specific brewing techniques using the same ancient pots that were used for centuries. And unlike the rest of the world, we don't add sugar to Coffee at all since we usually drink it with Dates which in its self is sugary enough. No matter where you go, Arabian Coffee will always be the most unique way of preparing it, which goes to show that Coffee is indeed associated with Arabia and the Arabian life style.

Kaffa was indeed where coffee was first found in Ethiopia. If you go through Ethiopian history you will know that it has a history of trade with the Arabian peninsula now Yemen. It was introduced to them when as gifts and later on they started trading in it, no wonder they grew it in their land.Long story short found in Ethiopia first traded by Yemen. Fun fact: when the now Yemeni first asked about the coffee they were told "Kaffa" so they thought it was called Kaffaa and the traders went to their land introduced it to their people as "Qahwa" in Arabic. Then came the Ottomans and they heard "Qahwa" and introduced it as "Kahve" and when it reached the westerner world it was called "Coffee". It's interesting how because of inability to understand each others language and pronounce the same way gave coffee different names all over the world but if we trace back we reach its place of birth.

Nice details, but I heard no mention of how intertwined coffee and sugar both are with slavery, not even during the part where the Spanish and Portuguese spread coffee to the new world. Who do you think was growing all that? Neither coffee nor sugar would have been consumed in the quantity they were without slavery. Even today, the people who produce it hardly make a living wage.

If we go back to history we all know that many Yemeni people immigrated to Ethiopia. Arab Beast loool who are you that their respect means something? Unlike you I won’t generalise all yemeni people, we are talking about history, ok mocha is actually the name given to a form of coffee, not the coffee it’s self, it does mean nothing, I can say the biggest area of coffee in Ethiopia is called kaffa which is true, it’s known the Yemenis distributed coffee to the world, you have to remember yemeni merchants came around 14th century thats were they seen the coffee and khat, yemen like the other countries in the gulf have nothing but dates it’s only the Yemenis that have travelled around the world they get spices, different cooking techniques and coffee.

Coffe has 2 origins. 1 is from Central America with the Mayan and Aztecs. 2 is from India. 1 comes from the seed of the cacao fruit. 2 comes from the seed (without fruit) of the arabica plant. Note that 2 doesn't come from Ethiopia or Mideast. 2 comes from India. Tea also comes from India. Coffee was a drink of kings in India.

It took 800 years for Europe to adopt Coffee but now you are the experts of it's history. As a Somali, we exported coffee to Yemen from Ethiopia. Ethiopians were the first to grow AND consume the beverage. We learned coffee from the Ethiopians and we transported it to the rest of the world including Yemen. Nice try! Coffee is an African invention and discovery. Btw, there was never a religious attachment to coffee like the way you implied. Until today coffee is not seen as a Muslim drink. I wish it was since I'm Muslim, but I'm afraid not. Don't block my message 😉
