In a little over a decade and a half, we went from Sargon, which could take up to half an hour to make a move and play at a strictly intermediate level, to WChess, Fritz, and Deep Blue beating nearly everybody. So yeah, I think I can sympathize with Kasparov being shocked.

I feel like the absolute genius of these ai is taken for granted and not fully understood. The reason some games may look conventionally "boring", which is a complaint I have commonly heard, is that they are so stupidly good now that the ideas you see were founded 55 moves in advance. It's an awe inspiring thing, really! Please cover more, thank you!

the interesting thing about the ending part is that despite stockfish grew stronger and right now is better than alpha over all, the alpha zero can still win some games as white against it just because they take different approach and it just depends on what kind of position they make out of opening. but yeah, stockfish is just unbeatable defender and when you give it slight advantage it just wins. i made an experiment when i was analysing my openings with this bot and it took me like over 2 hours of constant trying over like 10 moves combinations, to finally break it with 1 move so it was like "wtf, how did you human get +3 position against me without any help and i can't even draw with you anymore". the most valuable for me was just that i really understood my opening from that moment, because for real its ability to equalise and draw everything is just painful to beat and i don't think i would have any chance in real game without backing my moves, especially as black. (also my elo doesn't speak for me, like 1600 with literally like 6/7 month of experience with our wonderful board game xD) but i totally recomend doing such experiments if you are patient enough, cuz you'll seriously start beating everything that used to be on your level after you lose and draw agains this thing few dozens times.
@rayvaasatlotld93572 жыл бұрын
In case you‘re not lying, could you maybe share, how the game went, in which you got an advantage out of the opening against Stockfish?
@asansfakeaccound54662 жыл бұрын
@@rayvaasatlotld9357 it was about 10-20th move, but i can look for it again later. It was something in catalan. Stockfish tends to be confused about those setups.
@asansfakeaccound54662 жыл бұрын
@@rayvaasatlotld9357 closed catalan, one of variations when after breaking center with e4, white closes it down with second pawn. unfortunetely i can't find the right move order, that day i was just testing when it is good to break with second pawn and when to close it down. look for some crappy move for white, that machine gives you and try to replace it with others if you want to find something similar. i can't really help you more (or i'm just too lazy, but let's stay with first thesis)

I actually thought of that reverse-calculation idea on my own when I was a kid playing against my grandpa. I figured out the kinds of moves my grandpa liked and thought have him an advantage and then used those ideas to force him into losing positions. I spent a few weeks figuring out a whole system for calculating it. If I had any computer science skills I probably would have been able to turn it into a program that would be a very primitive chess dataset.
@Magnulus76 Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's a normal way to solve a strategic game like chess, to play against the opponents best moves. Monte Carlo random tries work better in simpler games, not in Chess. Even Chess engines that use Monte Carlo playouts modify it heavily to use evaluation functions (typically neural nets) to select which playouts to pursue.
