This was before they released details publicly of the walking dead and they spoke about how the partnership was mainly to save their butts in the scare department after this was such a failure and how much money it drained from them. They gave away so much about their business in that three hour long induction :’)

VR is such a gimmick and again just like when they launched the Saw horror walkthrough as a year round attraction, I can see the number of staff required to keep the live action sections up and running leading to them either shuttering this ride entirely in a year or two or moving it to some kind of seasonal only operation. What's wrong with a well made, well-themed, traditional dark ride? If you put half the budget you put in to this ride in to a horror themed dark ride using a ride system similar to say Dinosaur/Indiana Jones at Disney World/Disneyland respectively, you could create something much more scary and thrilling.

You know I actually really, really enjoyed this ride! I rode the updated version as my first time, and was lucky to have had a very short waiting time as I managed to catch it just as it was re-opening from being 101. One thing you don't mention is the very well-executed trick where Derren's avatar grabs a "physical" piece of set- the train carriage- that really caught me by surprise. For the rest of the ride I was lucky everything worked fine and my group seemed to be actually listening to what the employees had to say - The transition from suspended to modern station was very impressive and I think the train crash clever in execution. And of course the big reveal when you come out of the suspended carriage at the end made me feel like being the rabbit pulled out of the hat- I was experiencing a grand illusion from the inside. Add to that the really well made fake ending and the whole thing was an absolute blast and a big highlight of my visit that year. To this day I'm still working out the details? so there's one track and a switch platform? how and where do they make the whole motion-carriage-falling effect? is there plans anywhere?

Watching this made me think about "Vengence" in the original London Dungeon site, another "world's first" in a Merlin attraction. It was a 4D ride, which basically meant sitting in a bank of seats that rotated around while shooting at things on big 3D screens. It was dreadful and made so much noise that it ruined the next show as all you could hear was the motor spinning the Sears around. Last I heard it was packed away in a shipping container and kept at Thorpe Park. That could be a new theme of videos to look into too! The Dungeon's and how they've changed over the years. I might even be able to help a bit as I've got an extensive knowledge and collection of bits and bobs.

I appreciate how much effort was put into this ride but the result wasn't what it was hyped up to be. It was OKAY overall. I've been on a few times and it is interesting to have a different character talk to you at the begining some times. I think it's between 3 people you could get? But I thought ghost trains were about GHOSTS! But it went from looking like it might be a hauntef thing going on, to people getting infected, to demons/aliens attacking you.....ok? And I never understood whatthe stort was from start to finish. I think it's cos in the middle part the actors are just shouting at you that I've managed to miss the transaction to people being infected to demon/aliens attacking you. I dont know. And I love Derren Brown which confused me even more why this didn't turn out well, cos I thought he would have put a tonne of mind trickery in it. When really your just in vr with a train that moves and vibrates and actors touching your knees.... Just would have been better if they stuck to ghosts 👻👍🏻

My brother's headset was tangled up in the first sequence meaning that he couldn't watch it. I rode this attraction last week - I was so excited because It was my first time and I love Derren Brown. He is such a clever man and I have been to several of his shows and really enjoyed them. This ride unfortunately really fell short of my expectations. I actually did not see any live actors what so ever when I was there so it was mainly noise and smoke and then onto the next Train. The VR was okay - but the helmet kept slipping off my head so ended up having to hold it on the whole time which made it even less scary. It could have been so much better and has so much potential so I am hoping they will update it soon. Not worth a 60 min wait though! Luckily I had fast track so only had to wait 15 mins or so! I would not have been pleased if i had to wait 60 mins !!
@booth27102 жыл бұрын
Update it? It has never really had a reasonable 'nearly all systems successful rate' since it opened. I think there was another thing about rise of the demon that improves on the original. Of course there is the "live action" but also the CG in that part was kept in the shadows and not very visible. (At first anyway) This made the experience way more eerie and creepy because of good old fear of the unknown. I really think it goes wrong when the CG is really obvious. Like for example the final part of the original where there is a CG render of a street in London with a massive monster on it which then drops you in to a hellscape straight from the ps2.

I remember riding this within the first month of its opening. It was a decent enough illusion but everyone I went with including myself complained about the headsets. The only bit that actually freaked me out a bit was when the vicious dog runs through the door barking and growling at you, at the beginning, I found the main problem with the "ride" was too many people... You're so crammed in that you can feel the people next to you touching your sides, but on the VR there's barely anyone on the train, they need to either make it a packed train on the VR, or take out a couple of seats so the people aren't touching each other.... That would make the experience more realistic.

And yes, a zillion times better than the fast and furious ride, which is horrendous.

I wouldnt mind if instead of a roller coaster for 2020 they completely remade the ghost train fixing all the problems

It was okay .... wish they had just used all of that money for a large scale ride like a rmc with that much theming

So how did the rude system work? Is it just a slow train that pulls into another room and then goes back?
@RaineStudio Жыл бұрын
Essentially. The vehicle starts inside the Victorian carriage shell. It slides out the back and moves into the live action set. While the show is going on, it moves to a new location where it picks up the guests to take them back to the starting point.

LMAO!!😂😂😂 I absolutely love your sense of humor (American spelling)! "Yeah it was none of that! It was rubbish!" and "You could have a scarier experience just riding the tube at rush hour!". Omgosh I can't stop laughing!

I’ve ridden it twice since it came out, they also removed that crappy middle section recently and just make you run round what is essentially a second queue line

what's that old song you used in the intro? Sounds like something Billy Murray would sing

queued up for this on a boiling hot day for around 45 minutes (which I was told wasn't that long!) I was thirsty and tired and the last thing I wanted to do is play pretend and run around... the thing that made it dreadful is on both trains the VR was faulty.... the first train I had no sound and the second train the video and sound were faulty because of a loose wire that I had to fiddle with and hold in.... great experience. 😶🙃
@booth27105 жыл бұрын
I hear you. We queued 2 hours - even though when we joined the queue the time was at 60 mins ... felt the same way about having to run through tunnels and pretend the world was ending or something and we were running for our lives ... my second headset was so shit I just gave up on the whole thine and just enjoyed the sit down in the end. I was getting a headache trying to make out the blurs and my headset was so tight it did not fit properly and I had no idea who to adjust it. one of the operators pushed the headset down on my head and it hurt

Is there any place to find details on the ride system? I still can't wrap my head around it how the stations and ride tracks are located relative to each other.

I can’t believe that this costed the same as SAW the ride (one of my absolute favourites in the uk!)

Geez, I've had scarier dreams than what I'm getting from this.

I've only been on it once and my brother and I actually had a decent experience, luckily the entire ride worked and the scare actors seemed to focus mainly on scaring my brother. VR takes far too long to set up, causing massive queues, then if something goes wrong it takes even longer to get running again.

I went on this not long after it opened with a school trip, we were so excited as it was in the first week of opening. There was so much hype and we were looking forward too it. We got to the park at about 11, the ghost train was due to open at 1. We went at 1, it was updated at half past, then 2 then 3. It finally opened at 3, and the lines were insane. We finally got into the room with the peppers ghost and it was kinda naff. The most redeeming feature was the train suspended by chains, it was actually super cool. And then when you went in it was the london tube design, it was impressive. Unfortunately the headset I chose wasn't working all that well. I had a little old lady with mine, but she was glitchy and out of sync and not in focus. When the message came up on the headset indicating you to take it off and get up, I couldn't actually read mine and had was grabbed by my friend. The live action part was kind of odd, we ran into the under construction station, and it was just the same person who guided us to the ride yelling about something, but I was so confused that I wasn't really paying attention. Then the fake train was coming down the tracks and I have to admit was kinda cool and did trigger my flight or fight. But for the most part we were stood there dumbfounded and looking rather lost. We were then ushered back onto the train at such a fast pace I didn't even notice that the train had changed. I fortunately got a better headset, and enjoyed the rest of the ride as it was something new. The people touching you was a super cool effect, but there should have been some warning and an option to opt out, as someone on my carriage had to leave as they couldn't deal with being touched. Overall it's worth the ride simply for the experience of VR, although I don't know how often it's all cleaned (ew). I expected more, especially how long we waited to get on. Some of the stuff in the gift shop is actually really cool, but heck it was expensive! 6/10 would probably ride again :)

I remember I rode this when it first came out; nobody knew anything, and people were being asked not to talk about their experience. You had to go and ride on it to know what it was about. I was absolutely bricking it and kept my headphones & goggles only half-on, which meant the whole ride I was trying not to burst out laughing because two ride attendants about two feet from me were discussing their night out in VERY graphic detail 💀

I cried the first time I went on this (before I even got on it, as I have a fear of love actors). And it broke down half way through so we were completely bamboozled by the whole experience. We weren’t sure if things that happened were supposed to happen or not. We didn’t actually get told it was broke down until we asked. All four of us just came off like ?????? asking each other what we had seen on the headsets. It completely spoiled our experience of it. Luckily we got a fast pass to ride it again and the proper experience was really good. Admittedly, staff running round touching you is pretty lame but if you let yourself get into the mood for it, it’s really fun
