90sgamer92's Notes: I'm open to criticism, but BEFORE YOU COMMENT, read this (1-5): 1.The video was edited in parts during a 3 week time period, so I apologize if the sound editing is all over the place. I generally used 60% volume on my PC with headphones on when editing the video, so those are the settings this video is "optimized" for in the later parts. 2. Except for the major titles, most of the footage was captured from early areas in most games. There were many games I played for the first time (and quite briefly) for this project, so unfortunately this video doesn't offer any major insight on the more obscure and forgotten games. I also had to cut some newer games from this list (didn't wan't to spend money on games that I could predict being utter garbage and I couldn't capture footage from some games), but at least I tried to cover all of the older games. 3. I was originally supposed to get this video out before January, but for various reasons (Vegas problems, procrastination, RL obligations, Hadriex's schedule, etc) I couldn't start working on it until later on. So by the time I had rendered the last parts, I didn't have time to fix some visual glitches (like how the picture is stretched out of bounds at 2:00:00 and 2:02:34, it certainly wasn't that way in the Vegas preview window!), as I had to make room for my hard drive and delete much of the footage that had been cluttering it up for the past few months. Epescially the last few chapters are hastily put together. Also worth noting that some of my old footage from games like Pool of Radiance and Planescape: Torment is more blurry/pixelated, and there's nothing I could do about it beyond going back and replaying the game to re-capture footage. 4. There are some minor flaws here and there in the voice over like accidentally skipping over some words, leaving out the plural etc. Since patching the audio usually sounds jarring, I patched in missing words with text in spots where it was neccessary. There's some background noise here and there that I couldn't get rid of, but if you'll check the credits, you'll see that Hadriex did his best to try and record the voice over in the most optimal conditions. The script was just so long that he had to do it in parts. 5. I wasn't as thorough about fact checking when making this video, and made some claims based on my memory on games that I played 1-3 years ago. So if I state something that's factually incorrect, feel free to correct me. And as always, I'm not that great when it comes to presentation/polish/using Vegas efficiently, so the video retains my amateurish style. But I like to think that as a part of my rustic charm.

1970s CRPG designers: "Let's design a CRPG with our own characters set in a completely original world that we create from scratch." "Great! What should we call it?" "Gandalf's Adventures in the Land of Middle-earth." "Sounds good to me!"

More like tabletop RPG designers, but otherwise, yes. I'm not sure if it's mentioned in this video, but halflings were once called hobbits, and treants were called ents.
@whoaitstiger2 жыл бұрын
@@TheRPGChick This is true as well. My thoughts were specifically some of these Rouge-like games that used names like Moria and Orthanc. I've played Angband, but that is more of a Middle-earth setting/homage because it seems to deliberately be using as much Tolkein material as possible. I'm not sure if Moria and others did the same though, other than just to use the name. Perhaps I'm mistaken and they were more of an homage like Angband was.

@@whoaitstiger Angband is like a sequel to Moria, but neither of them were sold for profit, so that's probably why they weren't sued into oblivion.

I came here because of the new release of BG3 bringing the genre back to the attention of the mainstream. I absolutely loved the infinity engine games, and I’m glad to see some love for Icewind Dale. I loved the aspect with that game of creating all my own party from level 1 and following my own characters through. Of course the fully crafted story lines of BG1, 2 and now 3, offer a different kind of storytelling, I personally enjoyed that particular kind of game that has somewhat fallen out of favour more recently.

The original author really missed the point on the gold box games and didn’t dig deep enough into them. Creating a halfling female fighter was FUN as you were, oh what is it, ah yes, Roleplaying!!! Oh wow, you modified your party to maxed out stats, how original is that. Vs you beat the game with what!?!??!! Alignment did have consequences in the series, it allowed for different interactions and treatment.

@TheRPGChick Жыл бұрын
Skyrim is a hell of a fun game to play, but the RPG elements are rather light. TES games get lighter on skills and attributes with every entry. I consider it to be an open-world sandbox action game first, an RPG second. That's not a bad thing imo.

Tip for Pool of Radiance: if you want your wizard to learn Knock (which is necessary to complete the storyline as one plot critical door cannot be bashed or picked), you MUST learn it at level up since the game does NOT have any Knock scrolls.
