@@Cnut_the_grape And it's exactly what happend. Lithuanians established the Grand Duchy and conquered Kiev Rus. But they were still pagans, whereas Rusians were christians (orthodox) for hundred of years. And Lithuanians adoped Rusian culture and language. Which is why Belarusians are today as much heirs of the Grand Duchy as Lithuanians does. PS I'm a fan of Cnut as well :D He was half Polish by his mother, a Polish princess.

Contrary to what the two people above me said. All cultures were tolerated in the GDL. There was no such thing as "Ruthenization" or "Lithuanization". Both Lithuanians and Ruthenians kept their own culture and language and would make cultural exchanges with one another as well as go to battles. Though it was basically a state were the majority(Ruthenians) were ruled by the minority(Lithuanians). Belarusians(Their mostly a mixture of Lithuanian and Ukrainian(Ruthenian) blood) are not on the same level of hereditation of the GDL as Lithuanians are since they did not found nor rule that state.

@@lightened6445 Oh really? So when did GDL single-handedly win against the Grand Duchy of Moscow/Tsardom of Russia?
@lightened6445
@lightened6445 4 жыл бұрын
@@INecr0 The battles that were fought for territories mostly, Kiev had been taken by Lithuania already in 1323 Algirdas' marches to Moscow in 1368,1370,1372. One of the first lands that were taken by Lithuania by force from Moscow were Polotsk and Naugarduk, Grodno by Mindaugas. Later Bryansk, Brest, also Vitebsk but this one taken by marriage, Later Kiyv, Lutsk, taken by Gediminas. Bratslav, and other provinces including a coastline of Black Sea, all these provinces were taken without Poland's help. And I am not even mentioning battles against Livonia which most of them Lithuania of course fought alone and of course Golden Horde. After 1385 Lithuania and Poland started to cooperate much more, but by that time almost all the lands had been taken already by Lithuania and before that relations between these countries were weak, so talking about a military alliance is unreal. And after union of horodle, when Vytautas had became separate completely separate ruler from Jogaila which was also Lithuanian, he captured southern lands like Bratslav, coastline as I have mentioned again Vytautas was separate by then and there was no interest to Poland to help Lithuania take southern lands and also Poland by that time also expanded to the south. So as you can see all the lands were taken by Lithuania alone, without Poland's help. Only in XV century second side and XVI century Poland and Lithuania seriously cooperated to fight Tsardom and most of Polands battles were also with a help of Lithuanians at the time of Commonwealth but some battles and wars were fought only by Lithuania. Battle of Ula in 1564 which was a turning point, and a whole Livonian war pretty much, one of the reasons why it was weakened because Lithuania was pretty much supplying all the armies feeding them, Battle of Vedrosha in 1500, Battle of Kletsk in 1506 these battles were fought later., but Lithuania by then already had all of its territories which it took without Poland's help and was 930 000 square kilometers long before serious military cooperation with Poland.

@dorthusiast

@@TarebossT None of those examples you mentioned make sense because in the ones you mentioned, an area ethnically and linguistically should belong to a country, but is controlled by another. For example, Irish people live in NIR but the country is a part of the UK, or Alsace-Lorraine should ethnically belong to Germany but is owned by France. However, in the case of Romania, Transylvania is ethnically Romanian and thus belongs to its rightful owner, while the others don't.

@Adolf Hitler Calling me an idiot in your Hungarian delusion? The statistics don't lie. 70% of the population of Transylvania is made up of Romanians and Hungarians are only a minority of 18%. In addition, Szekelyfold isn't even at the heart of it. Even at Austro-Hungarian times, Romanians had a majority of 50-60% with Hungarians at 20-30%.

1674 (4:32) poland was an ottoman vassal, WHAT THE FUCK?
@leaveleaf3338
@leaveleaf3338 6 жыл бұрын
Corrupt Polish nobles didn't want give money and army to a king for war. Then the desperate king decided to give up to Ottomans and accept their demands, which were that Poland becoming a vassal of Ottomans, paying a huge tribute and the one of most important Polish forts "Kamieniec Podolski" was annexed. In pracitce it meant that Poland got the same position like Wallachia or Moldavia which were also vassals of Ottomans. Polish nobles found that very humiliatingly and decided to cooperate with the king. It brought to another war where Poland won but "Kamieniec Podolski" was lost until the Battle of Vienna. I hope it helped and I would like to apologise for all mistakes in my English.
