I don't quite see how the planes would fall from the skies because the cockpits are locked. Even if everyone was panicking and getting eaten on board, the pilots would still be safe until the plane lands. One issue would be if the air traffic control denied landing but the big airliners would be fine unless the pilots somehow died.

Granted that I have not seen New York in the series but, since TWD deviates from our own universe in terms of history, it's possible that 9/11 didn't happen so the regulations put in as a result wouldn't exist.

Landing is just as dangerous as flying. Small planes wouldn't just fall out the sky, but jumbo jets I can see as without traffic control and communication to the ground, they wouldn't know where is safe to land if anywhere and there's a reason they can't just land anywhere. Even if they do try and make a controlled landing in say a cornfield, it is going to be extremely rough and probably end poorly.

I didn’t even think of how important that flight was in the walking dead series overall. I’m still kinda disappointed on how fast the CRM was dealt with but The Ones Who Live was only 6 episodes also Rick and Michonne dealt with it so makes sense story wise. It’s still interesting we’re getting more aircraft’s in the series. Flight can represent both hope and doom. Hope because that means the world is advancing with flight still being a possibility but doom because threats can use that against you/ if they have the means to have it as well. But your interpretation was good as always! I haven’t started Daryl Dixon season 2 yet but got me looking forward for season 3 and the future of flight in general.

@NiskaMagnussonАй бұрын
post-post apocalypse Walking dead sounds like INCREDIBLE alternate series material with stuff like this, the only problem is they'd almost have to canonically confirm how most spinoffs and main series (at least within the US) ends.... Seeing entire nations go to war, perhaps based upon the teachings of one Rick Grimes or another impactful character go to war based on misinterpretations or people bastardizing their message for their own means would be incredible, political intrigue, drama, war, characters torn by the lack of a major "good guy"... the dead still being a constant background issue... SOOO much potential.

Reminds me of the Novel WWZ. It really goes into depth about a lot of this. I won't spoil a lot, but for example Russia becomes a mega orthodox state due to churches providing sanctuary during their version of the fall, North Korea "Gets Interesting", and a lot of countries like Canada contain the some of the last remnants of the undead due to them freezing and thawing in summer. Really interesting stuff.

Just imagine teaching history to kids 100 years after the outbreak (2110) and tell them about how humanity fought between them in this flying machines by thousands. Just imagine a british boy learning about the battle of britain in 1940, and being incapable of imagine how that amount of flying machines coud have been possible in that far past. Well, there would be a lot of things that you would tell to the kids of 2110 that they would never believe at all.

Don't forget Zombie hordes love to follow aircrafts. I remember that one in flying over Atlanta in season 1. I always thought survivors could use helicopters to lead hordes away from settlements and even off canyons, etc
@StickTheGlue25 күн бұрын
I've never understood why planes just drop out of the sky during especially zombie apocalypse's. the cockpit is designed to keep people out, people with weapons. So I highly doubt zombies with their bare hands could get in. I think a more 'accurate' plot line should be they've had a breakout on board but they've managed to contain it by locking the zombies somewhere. But now they're running out of fuel and there's other injured people on board so they need to find somewhere to land FAST, ground control isn't speaking to them and when they finally find somewhere to land the plane is swarmed by zombies on the runway
@markoopacic761522 күн бұрын
Yeah that makes a lot more sense.
@romanbellic958020 күн бұрын
It could be likely that the same tragedy that happened in our world, never occurred in this one. Remember, before all of that happened, the cockpits were usually left open and were easy to access. So chances are, the pilots either left the door open, the zombies broke down the door, or the pilots opened the door to see what was happening...

@mad555maxАй бұрын
Several of the large communities have manufacturing and there's a lot of spare parts out there up for grabs anyway. Older planes and helicopters are taken out of mothballs all the time, it's just a matter of parts and doing the work tbh. A little of the rest is tv magic but it would still be doable to a degree. Especially if you preserve a collection of vehicles early on (likely what the CRM did)
@BrandonB.ComicsАй бұрын
That makes sense

I'd imagine all the pilots would have to be amateurs as most professional pilots would've died off during the apocalypse, let along be apart of a community capable of maintaining aircrafts, and on top of that be willing to properly teach people how to use said aircrafts

Vehicles lying around unused should be good considering they're in a sheltered hangar. The most unrealistic part is the fuel and gas. For the Military during the fall of September 10th of 2010 i have a canon theory not a Real Canon but my own Theory, we know the CRM was formed by National Guards who defied the orders from the Government. but wouldn't their be Navy Ships around the Ocean, like Aircraft Carriers Battleships and Battlecruisers around the ocean. its hard to believe where they were during the time, its likely they understood the whole thing, like when you Die you turn, and shoot them in the head, but i am wondering where are all the aircrafts?. we've only seen Blackhawks (during operation Cobalt with Shane seeing them and in FTWD) and a single Huey Helicopter (that was shot down by the Governor's group). there should at least be more in Airforce Bases and in many Areas. With this i think the Military is STILL Alive. just well hidden in the World. This is just my Theory its not FULLY True because we dont know where they are.

I am happy they didn’t abuse the helicopter or airplanes in the show. Trained pilots are in high demand, You can’t just climb into one and fly away. Including a very resource intensive piece of machinery and spare parts. You have to also have the trained mechanics.

If I'm correct Jet fuel which is fuel used in military aircraft,I think yes expires. However, just how long this is depends on the product itself and its storage conditions and hearing that Illinois National Guard survived I think there a possibility of Fuel Trained crews can maintain the fuel.

Well, think about it. Civilians usually have to interact with certain personnel to land their aircrafts usually. (Ex: Air Control). Without being able to make contact, many pilots would be unsure on how to continue. However, to those who fled by plane, after knowing about the Wildfire virus, they probably just ran out of fuel.
