The History of Forza

11 games, or 12 if you include the mobile spin-off, across 16 years. So far...
The Forza franchise has been ripping through the releases, starting out back in 2005 on the original Xbox (no, not the Xbox One) it was purposefully created to rival Gran Turismo and, over the years, it’s been a worthy adversary.
In this video we go through each game in the Forza franchise as it stands, including its transition from Xbox to Xbox 360, the tumultuous Xbox One years and the spawning of the open-world Horizon series that leads the charge at present.
With it approaching four years since the last Motorsport entry and three since the last Horizon, it may appear that both strands are about to receive a reboot. Ahead of the long-running Microsoft staples re-invigoration, get up to speed with the series to date.

Motorsport 2 is when I started. I pre ordered motorsport 3 and 4, skipped 5 and pre ordered 6 and 7. Horizon I’ve always disliked since it came out. 30fps on the 360 and Xbox one, physics are too arcady… not a fan at all

For someone who grew up on PlayStation consoles, I'm a little late to get into Forza but this series is a blast and I'm so glad I got a Xbox 360 this year. There's something different that makes Forza games so special, besides the coherent damage model and spectacular interior views, can't quite describe it but makes me feel good and alive, a feeling most Gran Turismo titles never managed to give me Even though I'm still dedicated to FM3 while I wait for my copy of FH to arrive, it's so nice to see other players still making content about these games nowadays, I absolutely love watching videos about this franchise anytime. Thanks for this very nice little documentary, keeping history alive is essential and the earlier Forzas always deserve a ton of praise

This year I played over 5 hours of Forza Motorsport 3/4 and Horizon all on the 360 since I never owned a 360 till 2018 and I have to say these games are some of the most enjoyable racing games that I managed to get my hands on. When people say that Era was the peak of the franchise they meant that. The game structure though a campaign that you can go though the world tour or pick your own, the sense of speed going 250 km/h to over 400 km/h, the AI having personally and have driving styles to make sure you know your rivals well, Car list that is more on the everyday side but each car is (mostly) different the way that they feel... Seriously I want that formula back again in the new Forza installments. Forza 7 and Horizon 4 are okay games to play but it's not the same scope of the previous games that once had; Personally.

@@haaxxx9 the new Motorsport titles don't appeal too much to me either, FM3 and FM4 feel much better and not a bit dated when compared to them. The first Horizon is one hell of a game, smooth controls and the gorgeous visuals that make it one of the best looking games on the 360, also has great progression and a somewhat relevant plot I did like. Personally, I don't feel racing games will come back to what they were on early 2010's so I'm really glad I bought this 360

Horizon 2 had the best engine sounds out of all the games and still looks incredible. Horizon 4 is okay, I had my fun with it....but I find that I get bored after about 30 mins of playing....I hope Horizon 5 can keep my interest longer.

I played over 300+ hours on Horizon 3 and loved it! I played over 30+ hours on Horizon 4 and got bored of it. Mainly the single player campaign in H4 is almost non-existent. You can get S2 cars and money easily by just breathing, leveling up is hollow and uninteresting, some engine sounds are WAY off (1997 Viper, Skyline R32), AI are tired to the dumbass driveatars that have 0 personally to them, the world is so average compared to even the first game of Horizon... It's a game you can choose to ignore to play in general and nothing will change. It's good multi-player game though but I had little to no friends at that time to play it around with. Plus I hated public lobbies because 90% of the time I get rear ended into a tree, wall, another opponent and most of people can't even drive worth a damn. Dealt with that in H3, no thanks on H4.

@@xZeroGrxvity Trust me, FM4 and Horizon 1 even though it's easy to get cars and money (Mainly because I play on all assists off and at least on Hard) you still have to put in effort to play the game. The more recent Forza titles make me sleep behind the wheel due to how piss easy to get the best exotic in the game without even trying. I even have to limit myself on money and exp due to how fast I was getting at and felt nothing. It's not special to see a exotic car like a Senna, Aventador, Carrara, Veyron etc and most tuned cars are the V12 swaps that I am tired of hearing. Exact same problems I got with Horizon 5. P.S. The sense of speed is fucking terrible in Horizon 4/5. Going over 400 km/h feels like going 240 km/h in M4/H1. In the old Forza games it makes you fear going over 320 km/h by having the screen shake almost like in NFS pro streets/Shift. I get no excitement and fear going those speed in Horizon 4/5 at all. Very boring!

Horizon 5 only lasted about 3 months of heavy play and I was crazy bored, only reason I play it now is because I got a wheel setup and it's helped give all my old racing games some new life

Personally I think Horizon one is the best of the horizon series. That game had a distinct identity. More recent horizons feel like games where they threw as much as they could against a wall to see what sticks, and as a result the game lacks direction now. Just my opinion and I still think Horizons 4 is good, but its aimed at everybody and lacks identity.

Really wish they kept the NFS most wanted style ladder of opponents culminating in a giant final showdown for the career mode. Ripping Darius Flint in half for the first time with the barn find Bugatti EB110 is a gaming memory I will never forget as long as I live

Horizon 1 is the best by far and that point about identities is such a good one. Horizon 1 is about being the champion, Horizon 2 is about being free, Horizon 3 is about being creative, Horizon 4 and 5 have no soul or identity

You forgot one thing about Forza that they only had, even PC never had it and it was Tire deformation, when in corners you could see the tire deform under the weight of the vehicle and G-forces.

For me FM2 was the peak. Little things like taking out the boost gauge inside the tach (starting with FM3), and removing the ranked part of online multiplayer (FM1/ELO, FM2/Trueskill rank) ruined it for me.

FM3 was and still is my favourite racing game ever, the career Mode was so long i played it for weeks and didnt finished it, i had so much fun with this game that FM4 was a bit of a downfall for me, its still a good game but i liked 3 more

Something that was broken since Horizon 2 is the progression. Happens for FM as well but it’s egregious in Horizon now. Not having to work to get a hyper car and having it handed to you from the start is a mood kill after the first 15 minutes. What am I still playing for if I’m given what should be end game content at the start? Takes all of the wind out of my sails personally

So true. When I finally bought FH4 and 5 I ditched them after just a few days. It's more like those sandbox FPS (which I view more as a social platform) with cars at this point. And they know it full well which is literally why eliminator exist.

I'm from the future, and I am here to say Horizon 5 is not as strong as 4. The game is plagued by game-breaking bugs such as raytracing crashes, launch bugs that can cause your whole computer to hang just to name a few. The Drivatars get even more ridiculous once the game hits expert difficulty, yet unbeatable is manageable. Oh, and it takes place in Mexico. If they do make a title that takes place in Japan, then they gotta make the Toyota GR Supersport the cover car and actually give us more than just a bunch of Toyota SUVs and the supra.

And apparently all it takes is graphic upgrades and a few driving physics changes. Everything else is the same as its always been, upgrades, tuning, liveries. Though Ironically Liveries have had the most changes and effort put into them of those features.

Honestly I didn't like GT Sport but the penalty system is great. Its sad for Forza 7 because the online gaming of 7 is much better than Sport but the hammers is a huge turn down.

Forza is great, gran tourism I like more, but forza has its home for customization. Motorsport has so much more to offer, but the darn physics on gran tourism are difficult to compare. I mean I did great on time.trials because I loved the physics. It was 1:1 ratio! Forza feels slippery....sorry

IMO Horizon ruined the series. Everything went down hill as soon as they catered to the arcade and only about hype crowd. Disappointing really because Forza used to be one of the few game series/titles, that wasn't slowly degrading and getting either worse or intentionally pay-walled to death. I hope they ditch Horizon going forward and make what actually built them and their name for actual fans. If you want arcade street racing play NFS ffs

Xbox's hilariously, almost intentionally abysmal console naming convention, or lack of convention. And Motorsport 7 was an absolute crapshoot. Almost everything they could do worse, they did, besides the base mechanics. I appreciate you using the User review scores as well, It paints a more accurate picture. Professional reviewers are the worst way to get an accurate reading on what a game is really like.
