Franks were not Germans, they were Germanics. Just like modern day Dutch or English people, the Franks were their own ethnicity. Sure, the capital was Aachen during the reign of Charlemagne, but for 262 years, the capital was Paris, unlike the 69 years it was Aachen. -my nerdy self
@papasfritashechasenaceited4846 ай бұрын
@@hassankarama9166 Late Frankish rulers like Charlemagne likely spoke OHG dialects, but were not directly Germans, as Germans hadn't formed as a people or a cultural identity yet, with many German-speaking communities still being "classical" Germanic tribes, like the Alammani, or the Thuringi. Besides, Aachen was the capital of the Frankish kingdom for only about 50 years, having replaced Paris, which had been the Frankish capital since the the late reign of Clovis I (since circa 509, over a good 280 years). Not like the location of the capital mattered to design which was the culture of the kingdom anyway...

@@hassankarama9166 - [ ] Franks is Germanic tribes which doesn’t mean German, if you are thinking like this you are just making an anachronism. They were based in Gauls territories for more than 200 hundred years. They mixed themselves with gallo-Roman and this mix has created France. France and French are culturally and linguistically, originally: Celtic-Germanic-Latin (Gauls, Franks, Roman) with Christianity as the state religion and this is exactly what was the Francia empire, they settled their capitol in Paris and conquered from this point. - [ ] - [ ] We literally conquered the Germanic tribe and imposed on them Christianity. Frankia/franks are just the ancestors word of the french and France which has been latinized (Frankia=>Francia=>France)/(franks=>Francs=>français). All the Merovingians and Carolingians king are born in France and has been baptized/buried in France (except Charlemagne buried in Aix La Chapelle). And they were all of them Culturally/linguistically and by the blood Gauls/franks descendants as well as the population (french are mainly gallo-frank). German are affiliated to the saxons, frisons, batave, ostrogoth, wisigoth(partially bit Slavic. After the scissions of Louis le pieux sons the west francia kept the authentic gallo-franks/Latin culture/heritage and dynasties in opposite of eastern part of Francia.

Modern French have nothing to do with the Franks. The Franks were a tribe from the modern Netherlands, Belgium and parts of Western Germany. In fact, Modern Dutch, Luxembourgish and some Central German dialects descent from Frankish. Other than that, it's a good video.

I wouldn’t say nothing, their state has its origins with the Franks, and their nobility was Frankish. But yeah the people themselves are not Franks, and claiming that France goes all the way back to Clovis is disingenuous. France would exist for centuries

It's not an ethnic map but a map about the History of France. Frankish kingdom => West Francia => Kingdom of France. France name originates from the latin "Francia" meaning "land of the Franks". Wonder why.
