The Japanese history dates back to the Paleolithic period when first people arrived on these lands. According to legend, the first Emperor Jimmu reigned in Japan in 660 BC, but, in fact, history of the Japanese state began in the 3th-4th centuries. City of Heian (Kyoto) became the capital in 794 year.
This video will show the whole chronology of Japanese history on the map from Yamato and first samurai governments (shogunate) to the Meiji Restoration, Empire and modern Japan (every year)

I can't know why my compatriot, Koreans always insist on having one´s own way. Please don't show your inferiority complex about Japan. Shame on you.

I'm Japanese, and when I was a kid I learned that around the 5th century 가야 (Kaya) might have been subordinate to Japan. However, the interpretation that it was an alliance is the mainstream in Japan now. Historically, Japan and Korea sometimes fought, but most of the time they coexist peacefully. I hope Japan and Korea will help each other as they did in the good old days.

Japanese intellectuals wrote the island was full back when it only had 70 million people. That Japan peaked at 128.5 million people is incredible and a bit scary. A lot of people have doom and gloom predictions about Japan because of shrinking population, but if they went back to 1970 levels of around 100 million, is that so terrible? 沖縄が映ってないと思ったら、薩摩に植民地化された頃に出てくるとか、それはこの際置いといて、 奄美群島が米軍執政から本土復帰したのは、沖縄よりも早く、1953年12月25日ですよ。（日本へのクリスマスプレゼント） この手の動画は大体、琉球（奄美・沖縄）の歴史が正確に反映されていない事が多い様に見受けられる。

@テェエルゥ さん 確かに奄美群島の日本国復帰が、田中角栄首相の沖縄県復帰頃まで後回しにされているのは気になりました。ご指摘の通り奄美群島は1953年の日本復帰で正当です。 それに初期の地図から屋久島や種子島の南部から、“Ryukyus”（琉球群島）と表記しているところ。屋久島と種子島は、その他の奄美群島とは違い米国軍政統治は受けておらず、ずっと日本本土並みの日本国政府支配下でした。また小笠原諸島が“Bonin Islands”（ボニン諸島=小笠原諸島を示す欧米表記、米国人開拓民を第一義に考えて、日本人開拓民の時代を軽んじる考え方）は違うと考えます。

But former Heian capital is change its name to KYOTO, which is very famous for its old buildings or shrines. Sorry for poor English...
