Argerich is mostly a pianist prodigy teenager but not a career as famous twentieth century some Chopin where she is in a race , concerto 1 is too fast also sonata 2 , some Schumann some Listz , all discography by Argerich is some composer and not of all composer as France Clidat who recorded 128 pièces of Listz or Gieseking all Debussy and Ravel . Martha is a rare creature. She has no technical limitations. That alone is not what makes her rare. She has a creative spirit, and thus can interpret things properly. I admire her so much.

I've always been an ardent fan of Martha Argerich.! I was lucky,because when I was doing my classical Guitar training in London,at the Guildhall school of Music,(1977-1982) I went to see her everytime she would come to London to play,most of the times at the Royal Festival Hall,with the London Symphony Orquestra. I remember going backstage after every concert,to say hello and talk to her for a few minutes...in spanish since we both were born in Argentina,sometimes she told me " you always come back" !...ja ja ja One day something unexpected happened,a gift from universe ! I had tickets on the front row,that evening she was playing Prokoffiev concerto nº 3,with Michael Tilsson Thomas conducting.... and suddenly,2 people sat right beside me..I didn't look,but I noticed they spoke in perfect Spanish,so,at one moment I turned round my head and Daniel Barenboim and Arthur Rubinstein were there !!! ...I couldn't believe my eyes !!..Barenboim was taking care and helping Rubinstein to walk.so many thoughts came to my mind..cause i think Rubinstein was one of the best pianist of all time too,and Barenboim another genius ! I was so shocked that I couldn't say anything !...my heart was beating very fast.... so after the concert,as usual,I went to the place where she was signing programs etc.She was surrounded by a lot of people from different countries,so she was having conversations in English,German,French and Spanish (She speaks many languages ) And when she saw me she opened her eyes and said " You again !! and she laughed... ja ja ja...she was very nice,and i told her " you'll have a surprise today"...and suddenly Barenboim and Rubinstein entered the room...and Rubinstein looked at her and said "Que deditos" !! (What a Fingers !! )... I will never forget that phrase and his voice,He spoke fluent and perfect Spanish...so I got closer,and look at him and when he looked at me I held his hand and I said "I would like to say so many things...but I prefer to say Thanks ! for your art and all the happiness you gave us...He said Thanks,thanks ! very kind of you ! Unforgetable moments...it was a magic evening...to have the chance to share at least a few minutes with these incredible musicians and artists !

Que suerte tuviste Quique! I have got through a curious process of getting digitised and cleaned up a recording made in Buenos Aires in 1957 of my uncle, then aged 14, playing Schubert and Beethoven. And then it dawned on me, Daniel Barenboim, Martha Argerich, Kenneth was one and two years older respectively. Not quite as good but good nonetheless! Saludos Steve

I'll never forget the moment. It was summer, 1984 in Frankfurt, Germany. I was assigned temporary duty in the US Army after being in country barely 6 months. You must understand, I was not much more than a "dirt farmer's" kid, off a dairy farm having left the farm to carve my own path in the world... I remember being incredibly lonely, shy, insecure and longing for the music I'd listened to on the radio, in the back of a 1966 Chevy station wagon, while taking trips now and again to grandmother's house in the burbs. As a boy, those "elevator" pieces pierced my heart, haunted me, and little did I know that fate would come back to deal me a sweet hand, years later. Or, maybe it was the Creator reaching down to save me from a sordid path of a typical GI... While roaming around off duty on Rhine Main Airforce base that summer, I felt desperate and needed an outlet from the demands of being attached to a combat heavy unit - moving dirt with a bulldozer on construction sites... Ha ! I had just purchased a small powerful, pearl white "boom box", that I could easily store in my GI duffle bag and was pining to get music that would reach my soul - i didn't want to waste funds on the crooners of the day, that seemed to drown out the silence while living in a barracks with other GI's and their "suit-case sized" boom boxes... so, like a crazed starving destitute, I wandered meekly into the base exchange for the first time, stumbling into the music section. The store was a cavernous, well lit and we'll stocked plithera of all items troops needed to live on the economy there with their families assigned to Europe. I remember being overwhelmed... somehow I'd made my way into this HUGE display section of "cassettes", rows upon rows of music and I went straight away to the classical category. All I remember were the attractive and professionally made cassette cases of assorted performers and the umbelievable array of the many performers on display. And there she was - a middle aged handsome brunette, pictured on the cover of a Chopin concerto number 1, cassette. For some reason, "Chopin" struck a nerve deep in the recesses of my heart and memory, standing there in what felt like a sea of cassette music. She looked so beautiful - long, flowing dark hair, so poised and wore a confident smile and I thought, dahhhh - think I'll give Martha Argerich a whirl. So I bought a few of that music label's offerings and a few of, get this - "George Winston" cassettes - " Winter", "Fall", and I think one other... I still own them Like a crazed Dennis Hopper referee looking for then current NFL linebacker Bruce Smiths' shoe, I hurried back to a quite place, chucked my "6" double A's in the back and put Martha's Chopin in the boom box first... how do you explain ecstacy to someone who's never starved for nurishment ? I nearly began to weep as those powerful little speakers blasted away Chopins' concerto no. 1. Oh, how my soul did weep for joy at that moment. Something in me soared, was released and I felt - so far away from those cows, the fields stretching far off into the distance and the bucolic Ohio landscape, that I had just been ushered into a great chamber that possessed the most intimate melodies meant for me, thousands of miles away from all that was familiar. I'll never forget that summer, in the throws of becoming a young man, discovering not only wonderful Martha, but an entire vault of symphonic melodies that have haunted me to this day. Thanks for this posting ! and, - where would we be without poets like Martha, interpreting Chopin, Tykowski, N R Korsokov or the other tremendous composers of long, long ago... I think most certainly we'd still be religated & wandering the Highlands of a far off distant land, trudging through mud - herding sheep... So so greatful, the haunting continues, persists and beats unabated in my heart. Blessings

Wow, David! What an amazing expression of music transporting you out of yourself. I grew in a dusty, bleak place on the corner of the Navajo reservation, Winslow, Arizona. My piano teacher stopped me after I played one of my assignments and with tears in her eyes, took my hands, talked to me about the great gift God had given me, which at nine years of age, I only barely understood. My older sibling came home for summer break and among his things were some LP's. As "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" filled the room, I began to weep as some dry, arid place in my spirit was nourished for the first time. I often sat and for hours, played my own music but I became aware of greats like Montserrat, Southerland, Callas. I also sang and had a 4 1/2 octave range and would go over to the sanctuary of the church my father pastored and pretend I was singing opera. Music saved my life and kept me sane in an abusive situation, my safe place, my refuge and inner sanctuary. I did not become acquainted with the greats of the musical world until at college but I will never forget, even when I draw my last breath, the gifts I have named who became my friends, though we never met. I am almost 75 now, but I remember with unfettered gratitude, those who changed my life and Martha Argerich with her modest clothes and honest gray hair will always be a luminary who, as my friend continues to light my way through her amazing, extraordinary gift! Thank you for posting these musical treasures for everyone to enjoy, but particularly those of us no longer physically able to travel and hear such music. You fill our lives with such joy. Words are not enough.

The greatest, newest virtuosi can come out of competitions, and Martha will always be a giant towering over them. Always! Unending virtuosity, always playing with ease, and at the fastest tempi, when necessary. This is a fantastic compilation of great passages. Just when you say her Tchaikovsky is the greatest, she plays Chopin E minor that leaves your mouth agape. When you start to say "well OF COURSE her romantic music is great", then she plays a stunning Beethoven II. We need to revisit the quote from beloved Oscar Levant , who said of Horowitz--applicable to Martha--" She ordered her octaves TO GO.....".

I have always been a big fan of Martha Argerich. The first time I heard her play, it was a radio program. I was a kid. I did not have a clue who the pianist was. The performance made me so excited. At the end of the program they announced the pianist. Big fan ever since.

Isn't the fluidity of her playing the piano truly amazing? I remember watching Horowitz on Sunday morning magazine. He was featured live for the entire show. Sat there in awe of the fluidity of his fingers and l believe he was 80 or so at the time. Genius is a word nowadays far too often applied to people unworthy of this distinction. Martha Argerich is the real stuff, an absolute genius at the piano. She transports you with every note she plays, slow of fast. I feel so lucky that she has been part of my musical life ever since I was a young man in Geneva, Switzerland, and she was a young woman then married to the director of the Geneva University choir Chen Liang-Sheng.

I became a fan when I realised her Tchaikovsky 1st piano concerto performance made me hear things I didn't even know were there. Such a unique take, a soul born for Chopin and Liszt, such joy in playing... And her beauty didn't even flinch with age. What's not to love?

Im totally INSPIRED and utterly *demotivated!!!* No matter how many scales, runs, chord progressions I could ever do, it won't bring me nearly close to Martha. AND she isn't just a technical master, but she invokes emotion so suited to ever piece. I guess we have always got to have a target, a barr or, a maestro to look up to. Martha dwells amongst those gods and goddesses. What I wouldn't pay for a single private tutor class with her. 😃🙏🏼
