This was absolutely amazing. I was in a trance just loving every minute of it and had to share it. It brought back my mathematical memory I miss greatly but have forgotten the language, way back when I was in middle school I was a mathematical genius. My teacher was saying I could have taught a college class to students, but at the same time that year I had a seizure. Since then I have been an Epileptic 30 yrs now and in due time my memory and math had gotten scrambled as apparently the seizures stem from my left temporal lobe area. But deep down intuitively my brain still works like a computer but I can't describe it in our human terminology. This was just more detail the religious and spiritual people seem to forget about man's history. Thank you.

I was once told the numbers we used today are based on the number of angles in the written number itself. 0 had no angles, one had 1, two had 2 (more like a Z) three had 3, four had 4 (if the top of the four is not connected you have four angles, seven had 7 (put the line through the middle and add a small L to the end of the upper small leg and you have seven angles), eight has 8 (square up the circles and you have 8 angles) nine had 9 (square up all the arcs and continue the one line the second arc from the bottom through the middle, the arc on the bottom becomes square and a small line perpendicular to the end of it is added and you have nine angles), six can be done in a similar way 6 (straighten out all arcs and you have 5 angles, add one line perpendicular to the upper line and you have six), that they were shortened to today's form?

I feel like a few of these examples from the ancient civilization, are fairly unconvincing and seem like they could be reaching hard. Just because a modern mathematician is able to find some crazy patterns in some of that stuff, that in no way proves that this is what the person was actually doing at the time. As in, a lot of it seems plausibly coincidental. Particularly the Babylonian example of “the square root of two”. It’s just a fucking square with an X through the middle. It’s interesting stuff, but much of it is so highly speculative as to be pseudoscience. Then again though, these historians aren’t working with much in a lot of these cases.

The humanity , spread in different places, through the passage of time, came to know these universal truths revealed in mathematics during different times. Their egos and identities and the ability to publish and the power they had enabled whoever to survive and be known through the history. A few things stand out. A) Human knowledge was shared, and others built on the others' knowledge. B) No one can claim monopoly, on the knowledge, as it belongs to humanity as it was built on others' discoveries. I found it quite informative, enlightening for me. I had a horrible time with math classes as a youth. This documentary just confirmed I had lousy teachers. I finally learned empirically on job's sites during my professional career, before hand held calculators.
