For those saying they put more effort in April fools updates than yearly ones are not paying attention. Even ibxtoycat showed the comments where they explain the reason they can add so many things is because they don't have to worry about performance, bug fixing, parity issues or even for it to make any sense with the rest of the update. That's why they can just randomly add any weird idea they want.

For me its not so much as a matter of effort, more just like silly stuff like the potato update feels more like in the spirit of OG Minecraft than the "Realism & education" focus in recent years. A lot of Minecraft's iconic blocks and mobs were added on a whim by Notch or other devs because people thought it would be fun.

@@Myne1001 Yeah but you're forgetting that notch didn't use to make themed updates. The April fool's updates Mojang adds don't fit the theme of this update and if they do have an update for the April fool's stuff then it will be after 2 updates(since Mojang plans updates 2 updates Infront) cause that updates won't be planned and it would probably not even come cause those updates still don't fit the theme. The community got angry cause updates had no theme and they'll get angry if random cool stuff that don't fit the theme doesn't get added, calling them lazy for that.

Normal updates need to go through rigorous testing to make sure it’s a good idea too! That’s why it takes so long to release because they need to add the stuff and test it through snapshots and all of the typical shenanigans.

I don't think One Block at a Time is making fun of that rule, but rather the opposite, that it's poking fun at the people who want more Inventory Slots and whatnot. They took the idea of "One Block at a Time" to its absolute extreme, and showed that it's STILL PLAYABLE. Which is really cool! From what I've seen I think the Devs are really fond of that one. Inventory Management is an issue that needs to be solved, but simply adding more space is not the solution. (also can we PLEASE get the custom Day/Night cycles from the Infinite Snapshot as a Gamerule? I need 🥺)

kinda wish mojang extended their "features without a use" philosophy. i just love residual features or purely aesthetic things. i would love a cyclical nature 2 some blocks like crafting with seeds 2 make a dirt block. i want more features that have the smallest benefits provided. maybe that can b the next update. 1000 things without any intended use. everything is the equivalent of the dead bush (b4 they unfortunately made them provide sticks).

I think the next rule Mojang will break is adding guns. Likely by turning bows into revolvers, crossbows into shotguns, arrows into 9mm bullets and bolts into shotgun shells. Having said this, the Potato dimension and everything it adds I think could be made into a legit one. They would just need to tweak or remove some of the items to not break the game.

these april fools updates are always really fun, i like all the fun secrets and unique gameplay features and they just make for an experience that still feels minecrafty, even if it doesn't really fit vanilla. There's a lot of really cool features and they're made in a way that's fun to just mess around with in creative, and also allow for a fun survival experience. I'm honestly not sure which one's my favorite, infinite update seemed unbeatable at the time, it added so many possible fun challenges and i really liked all the fun easter eggs there, but vote update and potato update have both done some really great things that i actually wish were part of the base game (vote update: having more customization over how the game works, potato update: the potato dimension's just a really interesting new dimension with really fun new items and good world gen). it'd be really fun to be able to use some of those things in the latest version, behind toggles similar to the way experimental features work.

I have to disagree. The secret updates are offesnsive its essentially dangling a carrot and stick in front of us and expecting excitement. Its like "hey look at these features you're never getting, aren't you happy?"

But, they do add some of the features in these "jokes" in the main game, some examples: - size changing from last year april fool made it to the base game. - infinite dimensions was used to test datapacks features that made It to the base game. - this potato one contains some blocks and features that are executed too well for being just a joke (floater for example), they are testing those and getting feedback
