There's this episode where Little Pete takes a sick day from school in between the stretch of school where there are no holidays and he watches the dust in the sunlight as something you only see on days you take off. One of the greatest experiences of my life was getting to be on an episode of Pete and Pete!!! The last season was filmed in my home town and they were looking for extras... I was a kid who obviously had no acting experience but I decided to try out anyway, along with hundreds of other kids... And I got lucky! The episode was Last Laugh. I was in the audience during the school assembly scene when Adam West got completely covered with creamed corn!!! One of the best moments of my life :) When scenes werent being filmed we got to spend the time with the cast, it was so surreal hanging out with Pete, Nona, adam west and everyone else in the show (minus big Pete and the parents) I was able to meet the whole cast a lot during the months of filming in my town... Also got to see them film scenes as well. But one of the coolest things was that the house they used in the show was being sold at the time and my father was the realtor... So I was able to spend a lot of time at the house and just hang out in Pete and Pete's room. I could go on and on with random Pete and Pete stories from that summer. I hope Im not coming off as bragging! It's not something I bring up to people much and haven't thought about it in years. I hold this show and all my experiences with it very close to my heart... Pete and Pete was one of my favorite shows I watched when I was a kid... Definitely in the top 3!

If you had been an adult at the time that episode aired, you would have realized that the wife in the couple that bought the house from Little Pete was none other than Patty Hearst. You have no idea how mind-blowing that was! And, yes, I remember well Little Pete’s first steps and often use that example of the absurdist humor when describing the show to others. I also like to mention the scene where Little Pete is digging the tunnel with a Statue of Liberty after he’s grounded on the 4th of July, when he finds a buried wallet, opens it up and says “Hoffa!” before removing the cash and tossing it over his shoulder. Genius!

One of my all time favourite episodes is when Lil Pete's lucky penny supposedly ran out of luck and Stu of all people tells him he can recharge it by leaving it on a train track and have a train run over it, this led to an epic Lord of the Rings esque adventure where Pete wanted to remove the penny out of fear it would derail the train, and Pit-stain with other two cronies wanted to stop pete cuz they wanted to see the trainwreck, it was so amazing. This entire show is burned into my mind, Nickelodeon Latin America re-ran this show so much, I remember some of their best episodes from memory, I always wondered if the band playing the intro and the song that inspires Lil Pete to try and remember it for himself with his own band was an actual band, so thanks Roses! It was so great. And the best part was sharing it with family. Growing up in a californian family in the fucking midwest, I felt really isolated, and it was great seeing all these oddballs on TV reminding me that silly people like my family are the best. Most other kids I knew only watched sports. I guess they also liked seeing people like themselves. I ended up really identifying with Animaniacs type characters, who annoy all the squares with their far-out antics but always come out on top even though everyone just wants them to go away. Seeing the systematic destruction of humor in the modern day, I feel like we need this kind of relatable silliness more than ever.

There's a video of Miracle Legion performing the song, and Mark Mulcahy very clearly sings "Can you settle ta shoot me?" Tbh I believe the theory that it's about the girl who was shot at Kent State, even if Mark has said that no one has gotten the lyrics and meaning right.

I used to get Alison Fanelli from Pete and Pete confused with Meredith Bishop who played the older sister in The Secret World of Alex Mack. So it’s cool to know she went on to become a Doctor.

The two episodes that are burned into my memory are the one with the barber who never talks, and the one where little Pete has a garage door opener and is driving around clicking it and it's making people's garages go crazy

This was so amazing, thank you. I need to get the DVDs now. So I can watch the legendary Halloweenie episode, where Little Pete goes "back in time" one hour. That episode hit home so hard since it combined two of the best things growing up -- trick or treating and getting an extra hour one night a year.

“A Hard Day’s Pete” has always been my favorite episode. I love how, unlike most shows, which would have Pete start a band with a bunch of neighborhood kids, this one has his band include some adults- even his damn math teacher! I also loved the rare chance of getting to see Syd Straw show off her singing abilities, plus the surprise inclusion of Marshall Crenshaw (who plays an electric sitar of all things!). And the fact that they chose “Summerbaby- I Was Around” - a song that doesn’t really have any particularly significant meaning for him but just plain sounds really cool- is part of the wonderful randomness that made this show the special thing that it was. And the fact that Pete’s guitar is a Krebstar Eviscerator is just perfect. “What We Did On Our Summer Vacation” would definitely my second favorite. It was the first Pete and Pete thing I saw other than the shorts, and it’s what really got me into the whole thing. There just so much to like about it, and Michael Stipe doing that arm swirl around his head when he mentions Mr. Tastee will never get old (I wonder if he improvised that).

I graduated from high school the year the actual series started, I loved the early interstitials on Nickelodeon, so I always went out of my way to watch it. It felt very relatable to myself and the experiences I had, or wished I could have had in school and in personal relationships. I still don't fit in with my peers, and I doubt I ever will; yet Pete and Pete always gave me hope.

Sometimes I try to watch some of the live action shows from Nickelodeon during my childhood, and most of them simply don't hold up (through the eyes of an adult, of course). That 90's humor is so dated. However, THIS show is one I still love to this very day. It's probably even funnier to me now as an adult than when I was a kid. A true testament to its legacy. I got to see them and get autographs at the reunion show they did in 2012. A memory I'll cherish forever.

There are so many great episodes to this series and you really nailed what made each one so great. For me, an ep that always spoke to me was the one with the new kid who Pete and Ellen thought was an alien (and how it all connected to Johnny Unitas cosmically). It's very odd, very funny and, in the end, very poignant. This series walked the fine line of absurdist ideas blended with the casual norm of every day life and how, if we reflect on it, the two concepts really go hand in hand with real life. That being said, some of the biggest laughs I had of the early/mid-90s stemmed from this show! The dodgeball game where Little Pete kept defying the P.E. teacher still makes me laugh so hard - "Don't ask for him the bell tolls. It tolls for thee, MISTER WRIGLEY." The adults on that show were seriously amazing! God, what a wonderful show that, for me, is the ultimate Nick show. They will never surpass it. Thanks for this wonderful retrospective! Well done!

I just want to say your videos make me laugh and smile in a nostalgic way that doesn’t feel forced. So far this is my favorite video you’ve made. I absolutely love Pete and Pete. It’s such a defining show for me. I’m 32 now with a five year old, and I’ve just started exposing him to Rugrats. I will definitely be looking into buying the Pete and Pete DVDs. I used to have every episode and special including the shorts from a Pirate Bay download ages ago on a hard drive, but alas, I have no idea where that hard drive is. Anyhow, thank you so much for your insightful videos on some of my favorite shows.

I loved FLCL and this show. After watching this retrospective, it makes me think that both shows are almost a mirror of themselves from two different countries. Both are about boys going through life and their relationships and has a single band that does the background music in the show. Very poetic that both shows age like fine wine and are better when you are an adult.

I remember being addicted to this show but I have such problems remembering all the little things. My greatest memories of the show has to to be the theme and hearing it from 4 rooms away and rushing into the the yelling "PETE & PETE!!!" Papercut being a truly terrifying villain both in appearance and choice of bullying. and finally.... well its hard to describe but a moment from the show that always sticks out in my head is remembering Little Pete bouncing a signal off of his Mom's metal plate with a remote control.

Growing up in the late 80s and early 90s you would see a tv show or hear a song, and never be able to find it again. We didnt have the net and VHS prices for a series was horrendous. So you kind of just dealt with it and forgot about things Pete and Pete was forever burnt into my mind. The two things that stuck were 1. Hey Sandy by the Polaris . 2. the feelings i got when i watched the show made me miss friends family and events i used to have in my very own home town. It was super relatable. It's crazy having been able to grow up with all of this and never being able t find it, the last few years i have found all the shows i used to watch thanks to the internet. thanks for showcasing one of my favorites.

Only in the 90's will you have a kid show that had the lyrics "Can you settle to shoot me, or have you picked your target yet?" maybe it got by because people didn't catch it. Honestly, for me the solo fits the show perfectly kind of a mysterious wonder with the tone of 90's alt/grunge breakthrough of the time.
