Great to see you are recognizing the history of this very unique bow. The inventor, John Islas, happens to be my uncle and is originally from a small town in upstate NY called Lyon Mountain. This town is steeped with old time hunting tradition which certainly influenced his drive to be an innovator in the archery world. I still shoot the bow that uncle John personally gave my father decades ago as a gift.

Joe just to satisfy my memory did your uncle have Oneida representative named Jim I met him through another friend. It was very cool how all this came about. They were light and very forgiving bow. I had fears of catching a limb on a tree branch or something it never happened. And a power cable broke one time but all that did was open the limbs all the way.. I certainly regret selling that Screaming Eagle 600

I worked there in the mid 90’s. I was the last guy after assembly. I pulled them back for the first time, and then made sure that the limbs were aligned. I worked with John’s son. It was a small building just north of Syracuse, NY.

Now that was a very interesting video - thanks much! I shot "for" Oneida (no salary, no contingencies, etc.) in Arizona back in the 80s and early 90s, but Oneida did build me a custom target bow they called the T-1000 and gave me a lot of Oneida goodies. It had a gloss white riser, pylons, inboard and outboard limbs with chrome plated timing wheels and cams. My club, the Huachuca Mountain Bowhunters, had an NFAA outdoor league that we called the "300 League" (NFAA 25 meter targets at 20, 25 and 30 yards, with five, four-arrow ends at each distance). I shot NFAA Bowhunter Limited (fingers) class and the T-1000 is the only bow with which I've ever shot a perfect score and I did it three times in those league shoots. I also won a lot of NFAA field and hunter rounds and got a lot of people interested in Oneida bows - in Arizona, the home of PSE. When it was fully tuned and locked down, it was the sweetest, most inherently stable and accurate arrow platform I've ever shot and I've been shooting for over 50 years now.

Have just watchec your video. Absolutely EXCEPTIONAL. I live in Australia and bought a second hand Oneida AREOFORCE 60 - 80 pound in brand new condition in 1994.I usec it for years until retiring it and left it hanging on the wall as a show peice. Around 6 years ago I was looking through the internet & come across AMERICAN EAGLE BOWS owned by Joe.After a few emails I decided to get the bow fully rebuit. I ended up getting it powdercoated in gloss black with all new alloy cams,hinges all powdercoated in gold finshed with all stainless steel bolts with a Pollington sight done in black & gold. Now it is mounted on my wall as a show peice. I would love for you to write a book on the history of Oneida Bows as I for one would buy it along with a lot of others who love the lever action bow. EXCEPTIONAL VIDEO. HOPE YOU PUT PEN TO PAPER & WRITE A BOOK. Trevor.😊😊😊😊😊

I had an H250 back in the 80's. It was a great bow. You could quiet them down very easily. I shot mine at 60 lb draw weight with 2216 and 2315 Easton aluminum arrows. I should have stayed with it but when the Screaming Eagle came out I had to have one. It was so loud. I did everything I did to my H250 to quiet it down but it didn't work. Glad to see they are still around and have solved the noise issues with them.

I purchased an Oneida Eagle bow in 1985 when living in Pennsylvania. It was the rage back then and it got a lot of admiration from all my hunting buddies. I hunted whitetail deer and harvested 60+ deer in PA, NY, OH and WV over the years. It's deadly accurate and been hanging in my man cave for several years. I have an archery elk tag for CO and will probably get one for UT. Gotta get a new string and updated arrows and a Whisper Biscuit. The bow is pristine otherwise, looks almost new. I take good care of my gear. The guys in my group here in UT never saw anything like it, it still gets lots of second looks and comments on how futuristic it looks. I'm pretty sure I'll be going on a TX pig hunt this fall too. I have no doubt that if I get an opportunity, there will be meat in the freezer, probably lots of it. You need to buy this bow!

After the 6 hr plant tour and many photos...they took my buddy and I out to dinner. Before we left they presented us both with H-500 models. Any possibility of making a video on how to set up and tune a lever bow? (Sorry if it's in this video, only about a quarter through)
@davidmoore87416 жыл бұрын
I have the very first falcon produced, my buddy took me to Oneida to have his bow tuned and they had the first falcon hanging on the wall kinda off to the side, I shot a bunch of other bows and asked what that one was. They said well that's the new model coming out next year, I asked well can I shoot that? They were kinda weary at first cause that was the first finished falcon and they had just started the new production line for the falcon. Claude just happen to walk in and heard my story about how I lost my eye when I was 8 and said well u wanna shoot it? I said well ya I've been asking for 20 mins, I shot everything eles and I'd really like to try it. Do he grabbed it and the guys had me do a few draws and reset it for me, 20 more mins of tinkering and it was setup for me. So I took the first shot in the lil 20 foot indoor range their in shop. After about 2 dozen shots I said well how much for the bow? I was told it's not for sale and it will be on the market next year. I said I will write ya a check right now for this one cause at the time I had grown out of my youth bow a few years earlier but was still using it maxed out. So I think I paid 1800$ for that falcon. And I had them put all stainless hardware in it and a dozen carbon express arrows and they put a whisker biscket on for me. I think we spent 4 hours at the shop that day. I took it home and my first 50 shots I robin hooded my first arrow, so it's up north at my buddies place, placed in a bucks antlers on the wall. About 50$ worth of arrows right there lol so I try not to robin hood arrows anymore cause they are not cheap lol. I love my red dot sight. I've taken deer down at 50 yards with it. I've lost a few deer as well, it happens, that hunting. My dad hated seeing how upset I got when I lost a deer, I'd spend a entire week looking for them, it's heart breaking to me. I hate when it happens. I shot my first buck a 3 point, he just happen to turn right as I realsed and I stuck him in the left butt cheek. Thankfully I shoot schwackers and have luma knocks. Their was just lil drops of blood. I found that deer and my 2 buddies and I chases it a mile into a creek and then jumped on it and drowned it.

Dustin Apple I do agree to think what the progression will be next is very exciting. To step away from the k cam technology that we've had for so many years, that's exciting. JP Morris is no doubt more setup to do r and d and develop better lighter and tougher parts. One of the biggest shortcomings for CP was not willing to change with feedback from the market you look at how many people who complained about the limb pockets on the osprey's popping out of socket. JP buys and instantly changed that. I hope there willingness to grow and develop new tech stays. because my life at 26 has alot to look forward to from these underdogs

jack eskew a screaming eagle is a H riser bow it started from 1985 and was the longest running lever produced. they are easily found and should be bought anywhere from $ 100-300 the top end being something totally rebuilt with a custom paint or hydro dip. but even a beat up Screamer will easily fetch 100. bows are 6lbs and 48" tip to tip. and came in a wide variety of cam and outboard lengths. it is very common for someone to try and sell a h250 or a h500 as a screaming eagle. but the best thing to look for is the cams. the better screaming eagles will have a metal cam look closely for metal instead of a plastic cam. the large 3/8" hole in the cam in a dead give away. good luck.

No changes have been made to Oneida bows that increase performance since 1999. They still use the same cam system that was released 1992. ....better end caps, better timing wheels, better draw stop system. A few different riser designs but the majority of "new options" from Oneida since 2017 have all been colors.

Looking at the charts it looks like they have similar draw length options with the MEDIUM L.F. having lower % let-off options. I plan to shoot fingers, and mainly target, and hunting. You have to get the right size bow. It's easy then to change draw length with rubber draw stops. It's best to be on the higher end of the bow size if you want more let off. However , less letoff seems more accurate.

Dustin , I am showing an interest in the lever bow for multiple reasons that is a protracted discussion. I am getting discouraged with the no response I'm getting to the following question. Hopeing you could enlighten me here. Some of the Oneida models are referred to as fishing bows. I'm just curious. Why fishing ? Is this a commercial issue to encourage hunter types to purchase the higher cost models ? Is there something impractical about the fishing models ? I'm a poor boy and will not any time soon afford an expensive bow. Also , if one conciders the older models more than adequate , are parts still available ? I suspect many others that are investigating this time honered desin would like a straight answer to these. Thanks in advance.
@DustinApple5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if the question is getting lost in translation or you're just asking it oddly. Fishing is torture on equipment. It takes a well built bow to stay together bowfishing. The number one tournament bowfishing bow is the Oneida Osprey. Its light weight, strong and completely tunable. I have deer hunted with a Osprey but it is a low offset riser so some special details have to be taken into consideration. I'm not sure what you're wanting to do with a lever bow but only your level of commitment will stop you from achieving your goals, not the bow. As far as older bow parts most bows that are older than 1999 will be hard to find parts for. Join the "Lever Lovers" Facebook page and start learning more.

Matthew B. Most of us start with a old one. Then jump into a new. Usually can find a old H riser for $100-150

Do you know how fast the 80 pound aero force shoots? Great video
@DustinApple3 жыл бұрын
nope. would greatly depend on arrow weight. probably could get it upwards of 310

Thanks for the education. solid video. Do you know anybody who works on a phantom?
@DustinApple6 жыл бұрын
David Calkins few names for you to search. Joe Ciampa with American Eagle bows or Dwayne Skippy Manska either can help you. Or if you wish to get strings and cables G-string bowstrings can make just about anything you need.

My friend, I have a question for you. I’m currently bidding on a Strike Eagle on eBay. It looks in good condition but do you think it’s a good bow? Or would you prefer a black eagle or aero force?
@DustinApple5 жыл бұрын
don't spend over 200 for a Strike. a Aero will bring 250 but a solid Black Eagle will bring 5-650. that being said they are all K-cam bows and all perform well. you get what you pay for

Are the modules interchangeable between the different models ?, if not where do you get modules for the phantom, or the areo force 80
@DustinApple6 жыл бұрын
shawn rowley yes most are interchangeable. The phantom could have either a "I" or the "K" cam. If it has a "i" cam the modules that will work are much harder to find.

@DustinApple7 жыл бұрын
what do you want to know? probably one of the most popular bows out there for hunting and bowfishing. they are big and heavy but very forgiving and fun to shoot. they all have a the K cam witch makes them very tunable for whatever situation your getting into.
@dougking18787 жыл бұрын
the Oneida was a popular bow in the 80s. as we got into the 90s popularity really dropped. I bought a Stealth which was introduced when Loomis took over the company. it proved to be junk. today you virtually never see an Oneida. no dealers carry them
@DustinApple7 жыл бұрын
Not sure of your location Doug but Oneida has changed hands once again and the new owner John Paul Morris of Bass Pro Shops has been putting a lot into the company since June of 2015. This years new release of the "Phoenix" is the best bow ever produced. All the dealers are held to a higher standard now with a minimum number of bows that must be sold to continue to be a dealer in the future. There are many dealers that sell Oneidas online. For most of us this is a great thing because parts can be bought online as well. If you "never see an Oneida" your just not living right brother. The brand is still shipped all over the world every day.
@dougking18787 жыл бұрын
Hi Dustin..I see that. I was referring to WA state...but they dropped off everywhere. I see they've been reintroduced and while I don't doubt these versions are the best Oneida ever..it's a tough market especially if these models are priced comparable to Hoyt PSE Mathews and Bowtech. My personal Oneida experience was very poor. I bought what I later learned the troubled Stealth model. I had 8 returns of it one year..the next year something else failed so I sent it to a fellow who really knew Oneida. Well he told me my bow would have to be rebuilt. I said enough is enough ..he took it in on trade towards something else and I've never bought an Oneida again. There are very few dealers for this bow, and in talking to dealers the ones I know won't carry the line. I think it's gonna be hard for the new owners to get this company back on track

Is it a good big game bow
@DustinApple6 жыл бұрын
Scott Dittel yes. Oneida bows throw a heavy arrow better than most. Build a arrow above 600gr and it will be a great big game weapon.

@iceblueeyes94553 жыл бұрын
In my opinion. First they shoot. Cool look. Now the truth. There loud. There unpredictable. There heavy. Cable system has had flows since day one. If you buy one understand the older ones sold in short draw. Medium draw. And long draw. They are hard to keep timed. Great looking bow design. But kinda be prepaired and going to a bow shop that knows this bow. To change string and check cams. Ted nugent can afford to have a extra one for back up.
@DustinApple3 жыл бұрын
You obviously have not owned one or at least very long. They require effort, no bow shop understands them because a bow shop isn't required. All work done to the bows only require 3 Allen wrenchs. A knowledgeable person can completely disassemble & reassemble & tune in under 15min. There are some steps that help them be quiet. 10gr per pound on a arrow build is a great place to start. No bow works well without effort of knowledge. If you saw mediocre results it's because you gave a mediocre effort. 🤷
