In this video, we go through pinball's biggest, most iconic boom in the late 80's/early 90's to Pinball 2000. In this time, we see some of the most beloved pinball machines get made with a amazing amount of new features and gimmicks.
Special video credits go to the following. If you wanna see more detailed videos/gameplay for individual tables, I highly recommend checking these guys out.
CGR Publishing, SEBsixsixsix, Straight Down The Middle: a pinball show, For Amusements Ony e.V. Actually, Banzai Run had the first diamond plated playfield. But it was experimental at that phase, so only a few machines were released with DP playfields. Terminator 2 was the first machine where ALL the playfields manufactured were diamond plated. It's essentially the same polyurethane clearcoat used on cars, and they did away with that label after Fish Tales.

Also, Even with the "balls in her mouth" gimmick, "The machine: Bride of PinBot" is one of the funnest pinball machines ever made, the rotating head is an addictive feature and makes it a worthy sequel to the original iconically addictive "PinBot"

Sorry, had to comment again. Love this series. Pat Lawlor is the GOAT, Whirlwind is probably my "if I could have one table in my living room" table pick, not least of which because of the great sound effects and the fact that it doubles as a floor fan. Honestly that whole stretch of Bally and Williams tables from Cyclone/Banzai Run in 1988 to about The Addams Family in 1992 is the high water mark for pinball IMHO, having modern style ramp shots and great table flow while not interrupting the game with a lot of different play and video modes constantly directing your attention to the backbox. Which is not to say that some later tables like Cirqus Voltaire aren't amazing in their own right, of course.

Funhouse was ok, and Whilrwind was funny with the fan on top, and plenty of others were so good...but you hit the nail onf the head, as The Addams Family pinball machine was in fact great for a reason...I sunk plenty of quarters into that as a kid, a teen and an adult in bars. IT was just that cool and iconic. Twilight Zone might be in 3rd/ Bronze or 2nd/sivler spot depending on ones feeligns about it, but it was cool too. BUt to me, second to the Addams Family one was the Star Trek TNG pinball machine from 1993...that one was PERFECT for trekky fans and it had some cool features on screen and on the table. Surprised you didnt have that on here tbh. I remember some of the ones you did show and others. PINball rocks! ^

Good job on the #3 in the series. Just as good as the previous ones and it's my favorite era of pinball. Wow, just looking at those dates it's insane how cramed the 90s was with pinball compared to what came after. Also, thanks for finally showing that joust I talked about last video. :D Lastly, I always thought the issue with Pinball 2000 was that Revenge from Mars did well but Star Wars Episode 1 did not perform well. But yeah maybe it was more they were expecting it be a huge smash hit and when reaction to episode 1 was just.. meh.. that was it.

Love your pinball documentary’s. I’ve watched history of pinball videos so many times but yours are more entertaining, yet also deeper and more informative. From my understanding part 4 will go like this…. Stern Pinball keeps pinball on life support for the next decade or so by making games that are neither terrible nor great. Then in the early 2010’s something miraculous happens and less than a handful of “boutique” companies show up. These companies don’t care about selling to arcades, or bars, or vendors. They are small groups of pinball and retro nerds who make games for small groups of pinball/retro nerds to take to shows so that other pinball/retro nerds can line up and wait for hours to play 1 game. The last time I went to a show those games were “The Wizard of Oz” and “The Big Lebowski” Nowadays I haven’t been to a Pinball Convention in years but I do go to a retro niche arcade that is in the area and these games seem pretty prevalent now. They all seem to be Rock and Roll based with the games being called “Metallica”, AC/DC, and “Guns and Roses”. The big innovation seems to be that they are super loud, and half the back glass is a TV screen. Guess I gotta wait till part 4 to see if what I think happened aligns with your documentary.

Dang... A golden age, yet many of the big names went down, tragic. :x Still, it's nice that they even existed at all and brought in all sorts of advancements and stuff!

34:58 in fact, cactus Kenya was so loved that they made two remakes when it comes to the game code one of them is altered by Chicago Company, and those two remakes are cactus Canyon continued and cactus Canyon remake

Now I don’t know what company that made the continued version of the code, but I do know that Chicago Kings Company created the remake version

34:58 and I’ll tell you why Chicago gains company really did a really good number on remastering cactus Canyon. Chicago Company saw that cactus Canyon was made by Williams, but it was pretty rushed and the code did not get finished properly so Chicago games decided to update the code still remain its core elements and update it they did

I've only seen three arcades that had Super Mario Bros. and found it to be very easy and was able to play for hours on the 3 credit buy-in due to the enormous number of free games awarded.

There are so many pinball machines that need an acurate digital transition so everyone can experience them. But I guess too many digital licenses are afloat and many games to play gonna be stuck inthis license war. Had most Williams tables on my phone and one day - update - boom! - many were gone, including my favorite old school classic Fireball. Damn!

I have a 1990 Williams Rollergames machine. It came out just before funhouse and I've seen versions of the that have the diamond play field. I think some funhouse games did too.

That's pretty cool that you have one. I know some prototype FunHouses got diamond plating, so I wouldnt be too surprised if others around that time got it too.

Great video, but no mention of *_Star Trek: The Next Generation?_* That game was so awesome, it had those dual canons, cool ramps and ship models, a wizard mode, and most importantly the ENTIRE voice cast from the show. How could you not even mention that game but mention *_3 separate Star Wars games?_* ? Are you secretly a "Warsie"? ;)
