Ahhh, one of my very favourite SNES games! The joy of getting a tremendous lead on your buddy, then turning around & firing off a barrage of missiles from halfway across the track... and 'lighting him up' as Larry might say. Also, I used to mute the music and play different music mixes apropos for reckless driving in the background. Good times, all around!

This game on snes made my childhood! We would have weekend sleep overs playing rock n roll racing all night! We got so good we could launch missles from across the entire track(on most tracks) and blow up someone out of nowhere who was in 1st place about to win to catch them last second!!

Hey you said this is only 2player? I swear we would race with at least 3 people on the screen in lil divided box screens with a controller extension(or something my cousin rigged up) idk Maybe it was only 2 player and we just would switch off every race, but I swear I remember at least 3 boxes on the screen with one being a rock n roll racing logo in the bottom right… could have been playing it on some other system too like that, but snes was my fav

LOVED this game on the SNES. I remember buying it on clearance at Blockbuster for just $10 in 1994. What a steal! For an 8 meg game, this game was PACKED with so much high quality in all areas. Great graphics, superb sound effects, killer digitized soundtrack, tight controls, extensive upgrades and a raucous announcer on par with the one from Killer Instinct. I was a casual video game racing fan at best, but RRR was unique enough for me to buy it. This video brought back a ton of great memories. Thanks for this piece, Patman!

One my early SNES games was RPM racing. Wasn't much of a fan initially, but the track builder and 2 player mode sold it for me and later got me to pick up RNR. RNR exposed me to Black Sabbath's Paranoid.

The Blizzard Arcade Collection is also for PC. While I like the Rock N' Roll Racing Definitive Edition on it, I don't like Larry's voice in it. I find myself so annoyed by it I actually turn it off which is unfortunate since doing that sacrifices some of the nostalgia.

I remember when they made that remastered "Steam version" I didn't know that it was free now. I never played the original. It definitely is a 1990's grunge themed style it seemed like Mutant League Football, Road Rash, Skate Or Die, Death Rally, or Cruisin' World had that shredding extreme over the top vibe; It is interesting to note [and I do realize that it depends on variables such as Televisions, Speakers, Phase Alteration by-Line & National Television System Committee, or if it is projecting in RFID code or HDMI currently. In my experience the Super Nintendo Entertainment System tended to have better music\sound and Sega Genesis - MegaDrive tended to have better color and graphics.

Also, Racing Destruction Set was sorta the Gran Turismo of it's day. 8 year old me loved trying out all the different vehicles with all of their various engine choices and tire choices. The games that took advantage of the flexibility of the C64 were mind blowing when compared to what I had on the NES. Oh wow...I had no idea there was a connection between RPM racing and RDS. I'd moved on to rpgs and strategy games by the time I had a SNES so I turned my nose up at this one. Had I been aware of that I would have grabbed a copy, bad controls and all.
