@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries , if you're going to cover this franchise, then, even though it's an unofficial game, you should check out Streets of Rage Remake, which was the main fan game that got the fire lit under Sega's a s s to make Streets of Rage 4/Bare Knuckle IV, with the help of Streets of Rage X, Streets of Rage 2X, and Streets of Rage XXX, all of which are ironically longer games than Streets of Rage 4/Bare Knuckle IV. Honestly, with all of those titles, you have essentially a more complicated version of the Metroid II: Return of Samus/AM2R/Metroid: Samus Returns fiasco, namely, instead of one okay game, and two incomplete, but pretty good, remakes/remixes, you have a pretty good official product and four equally good fan projects. Honestly, if Sega had not been such a s s h o l e s , and they had handled the project like they did with Sonic Mania, and how they actually welcomed the fan game that would eventually become the Freedom Planet franchise. I am honestly convinced that Sega has multiple personality disorder/schizophrenia, instead of outright selfishness and hypocrisy, like Nintendo. However, I am still sore about Ken Penders, Archie Comics, Fleetway Comics, Sega, and other artists all arguing over such things, and, for all of the arguing parties of that one...(I begin to play Jim Johnson's "Protection", a.k.a., the old A.P.A./last Ron Simmons theme, and the screams of people in states of t e r r o r that were arguing are heard, instead of the arguing). Yeah, they all should be glad that I didn't handle these arguments. Finally, as for the Fighting Force thing, there actually a sequel to that game, namely, it is called Fighting Force 2, but it is a way worse game, you can only play as Hawk, everyone else from the previous game died, and it is only available for the PS2 and PC, as far as I know. Also, as far as I know, it was also around the time when Sega and Core parted ways that Sega decided to just do the Die Hard Arcade/Dynamite Detective and Dynamite Cop/Dynamite Detective 2 games in response. The first game was released for arcades, as well as for the Sega Saturn, Sony PS2, and the PlayStation Network, while its spiritual sequel was released for only the arcade and for the Sega Dreamcast.

@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries , Streets of Rage Remake also has a lot of quality of life improvements, among them, being able to perform combos, as well as for the characters to run, even the characters that were not in Streets of Rage 3/Bare Knuckle III, which was the only game of the old Streets of Rage/Bare Knuckle Trilogy to allow running for its characters. Moreover, there is also a much deeper combo system that is said to be one of the deepest that is in a beat-em-up/side-scrolling brawler/conveyor belt fighter game, like on par with Double Dragon Advance and A Night Where Good Things Are Bound to Happen levels of depth. Such quality of life improvements were also more or less added to Streets of Rage 4/Bare Knuckle IV as well. However, unlike Streets of Rage 4/Bare Knuckle IV, in Streets of Rage Remake, each character has their own Summon Special, as well as Ultimate Attack as well. Streets of Rage X, Streets of Rage 2X, and Streets of Rage XXX all do not have such things.

Obviously I played Sonic first (what 6 year old who loved the more cartoony Sonic cartoon wouldn't?), but then I started played Golden Axe, Revenge Of Shinobi, and Streets Of Rage and I fell in love. Revenge and Streets are very dear to me from the music side of things, I absolutely LOVED their soundtracks and it just felt so good beating the utter crap out of people with samurai swords, throwing stars, and metal pipes. (this is by no means to disrespect Golden Axe, because I loved it too, but it's one of those games that just feels infinitely more fun with a second player)

As you know, Patman, I was one of the few that sat squarely in both camps. I got my Sega Genesis in 1989, my Snes in 1991, and Sega CD in 1992. While I liked my Snes, the Genesis was my favorite. I especially hated what Nintendo of America did to the Snes's case. It was just hideous looking and stood out like a sore thumb when sitting in an entertainment center but I digress. One of the biggest reasons I loved Sega was games fot like Streets of Rage 1+2. They were grittier, darker, and more hardcore in their approach. To this day I still think SOR2 is the very best beat em' up ever created.

I loved my SNES, but the Genesis will always be my jam. And Streets of Rage 2 is the second best game on the system, after Shadowrun.

Depending on who you ask SEGA may have made the first beat em up. Wikipedia will say its Kung-fu Master (1984), but SEGA released a game titled Samurai in 1980. It's a single screen game, not a belt scroller though, but many of what would become commonplace in the genre started there.

Perhaps I should have clarified it as a side scroller. Good call though

I've always liked this game. Sega did a great job. I need to give those two most recent versions a try as well. I didn't know they existed.

Absolutely love Streets of Rage 4. It's in my top five probably for beat-them-ups :) Others being Final Fight of course, River City Girls 1 & 2. I do love some other ones like Undercover Cops, etc. but these ones stand out in my mind.

Streets of Rage 2 needs it's own stand-alone video yesterday.

If the movie "Streets of Fire" isn't referenced then this documentary is incomplete.

Streets of Fire was influential to Final Fight. There is no „direct“ connection to Streets of Rage
