In MY opinion, you are right! I was so sad to see the very last Arcade on our local entertainment strip shut down. I remember watching people play games there, and the owner would come near and tell you to play the games, not just watch someone else play. But if you look around on KZbin you will find Arcades in the US such as The Galloping Ghost Arcade *( the US's largest, second only to Arcades in Japan ) as well as private collections people have in their garage / basement.

That Crime Fighter's game was nuts! I remember that game. To beat it, you had to spend a fortune on quarters. I played it on M.A.M.E and it was so difficult to beat, as I had to keep pressing the credit button to replenish my energy (indicated by digits) especially towards the end of the game when all the bosses gang up on you and pummel you towards the corner of the screen. Nice documentary, a couple of little things to add is that you can choose a slight colour variation of the turtles in hyperstone heist between an anime look or the comic colour and secondly the hold/ ragdoll throw is performed on the second hit if the foot soldiers are hunched over so its not random it can be performed at will once mastered, and the run then two button flying kick or the run jump which performs a flip then whilst flipping the attack button to sweep.

I remember the SNES port being the first time I thought to myself “this is like playing the arcade game at home”. In my generation, we got arcade to NES ports that either just simply used the title and completely reimagined the game (Ninja Gaiden or Bionic Comando) or they try to stay faithful to the arcade version and did the best they could with the hardware (Bad Dudes). This was the one where I really remember feeling like we were getting really close to the arcade experience at home. I vividly remember renting this game (and a Wrestlemania, wish I could remember which one with my cousin, who was like my brother, got a big take and bake pizza, chips, candy and a THREE liter of Pepsi and I’m pretty sure we stayed up until four in the morning watching wrestling and playing video games. God I would give anything just to go back to those days just for a little bit. Anyway, thanks for the nostalgia!

The run button wasn't in the SNES game, it was on Hyperstone Heist. I loved the fact that you could choose between the cartoon and comic colors. My only gripe with the SNES game was that you had to beat it on hard to get the ending. It was frustrating as a kid. Keep up the great work. Your videos are entertaining, even if I wasn't interested in the game itself, I still watch your videos.
@ravagingwolverine3 жыл бұрын
I can understand the frustration, especially when on hard mode, Slash can be a bit of a monster until you figure him out, and even then he's tricky. Regarding the run button, you are absolutely right, though the SNES game does offer the option for a double tap to run, along with the auto run the arcade game had, so it is still at least a run on demand. I do prefer the button for running, though.

I was a bit obsessed with the first arcade game for a bit. I'd play it or watch it everywhere I saw it. By the time the sequel came out, I wasn't happy with the Turtles as a property anymore due to the nature of the marketing and all that. The first time I saw Turtles in Time arcade, it was right next to Sega's Spider-Man beat-em-up game, so that's where my attention went, and I got a bit obsessed with that one for a while. But there was no denying even then that Konami did a great job on the presentation. I didn't love the second arcade game at first due to odd quirks like the auto run, but I grew to enjoy it. The SNES version was improved in some ways in my opinion and I know I'm not alone there. I also enjoy Hyperstone Heist a lot. They're different enough to both be worth playing, and I'm glad for that. I always appreciated that the Genesis version has music very similar to the arcade version, which I vastly prefer over the SNES game's music. Luckily, thanks to the hacking community, there is a way to play the SNES version with the arcade music, so that's a great option to have. Very nice work on this video. It was very enjoyable to watch as usual and informative.

Hyperstone Heist was another one of Konami's B-efforts in my opinion. That gauntlet level was just cheap crap too. The level of love Konami gave the Genesis really seemed to depend on what day of the week it was. Sometimes they'd give it amazing games like Castlevania Bloodlines and Contra Hardcorps, which were every bit as good as their SNES counterparts, and other times they'd do stuff like Sunset Riders and this.
@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries3 жыл бұрын

When i got turtles in time as my first game with fzero and chō makai mura for my sfc back in 1993, i was a bit disapointed by it found it a shallow and technically not up to the task (i had a neogeo aes as a second console so that may have been the reason for it 😅). The 2 frames scaling effect when throwing the ennemies out of the screen was a big let down, when i knew the sfc was capable of perfect background layer scaling effect, so why didn't they use that method?🤦♂️ I quickly swapped the game at a store to get another one after 2 weeks. And now i have to buy it again for 200€ 😂 Great video as always! I would love to meet you one day and have a cafe at a terrasse where i live in Paris France👍

@ravagingwolverine3 жыл бұрын
The reason they didn't use proper scaling is because video mode 7 which allowed that scaling could only support a single background layer. As the game had full backgrounds, there was no way they could have foot soldiers also be part of the same background layer. It was technically impossible. That is the reason most mode 7 stuff takes place over a blank background, like in Castlevania 4. The game actually uses one of the system's three background layers, in whichever video mode that is, to do the fake scaling of the foot soldiers. That is why you can't toss them at the screen during the first stage for the period of time Krang is in the background trying to shoot you as all three BG layers are in use at that moment. One is the bridge, the second is the city backdrop, and Krang is the third. As soon as he's off the screen, you can toss the foot soldiers at the screen again.

I prefer the music for the Genesis version because it sounds a lot more like the arcade, as the arcade game also used FM synth music. The Genesis music quality is very good. The reworked music for the SNES game isn't bad, but it uses some odd instruments in spots, and the staccato quality of it feels like a downgrade to me. There are hacks for the game now, including a way to play with the arcade music, so that is really nice. As for the voices, the Genesis samples are scratchy, while the SNES ones are super muffled, so it's about even for me. And the games are about the same length, regardless of number of levels, however people seem to prefer the pacing of the SNES game, plus it has more bosses and enemy types which is good for a beat-em-up game. They're different enough that I enjoy them both.

Having Rocksteady but not Bebop is the perfect metaphor for the limitations you have to accept when comparing a Genesis game to an SNES game.

The throw and slam were not random; at least the snes version wasn’t. U could trigger the slam by stunning the baddies with at least one hit, approach them and press down on the DPad and a press of the attack button. The screen throw was done the same way but u had to stun approach and press forward and attack. U can beat the level on Snes with throwing the soldiers toward Shredder (screen throw) if you know how to do it.
@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries3 жыл бұрын
Yes, like I said in the video is not random on the Home versions But it is on the arcade version

No need to get touchy bro. 🤣 Just thought people might want to know how it was done just in case they didn’t know since u didn’t specify that in your video. Still good video my man. Didn’t mean to strike a nerve.🤷🏽♂️

Honestly I like the SNES version's arrangement of bosses better. Slash fits the prehistoric era, being a dumber and more brutal version of the Turtles themselves, and the Bebop and Rocksteady Cosplay as Pirates fight is downright hilarious as they get their weapons tangled up and do more damage to each other than you do. Didn't Razar and Tokka get moved to a different part of the game, too. I could of sworn they were still in it.

PSA: the 2007 TMNT PC Game cannot run on a modern machine due to changes in CPU instruction sets. The game's own launcher cannot identify a Ryzen CPU, regardless of which OS or Virtual Machine (such as an XP install) you install TMNT under. It was a fun platformer Turtle game. It will only run on an authentic, older CPU architecture.

This was a rare one to find in the wild, even back then. Played the original arcade & NES version countless hours when I was a kid but I'm not sure if I've played the sequel once. They sure went in the WRONG direction after the 1st movie. It's a shame because this was of the same quality as the original arcade game. the De-listed (deleted) Re-shelled is why I don't do online anything.
