They combined punk, rap, heavy metal, perfect combination to create an alternative subgenre alternative hip hop with Rage Against The Machine, Limp Biskit, etc. to follow. Great Alt band.

One other thing I like about them, besides the fact that their music is really good, they create beats that u don't think u can make a song to and they do and it blows u away.

When most groups drop off, the Beastie Boys music is still relevant all these years later. Just the other day I overheard a bunch of kids in their early 20s praising the guys & their music. It took me straight back to the days when it was released

who else came here because they were on NPR today? I had no idea who they were, but now I realize they opened Star Trek 10 with sabotage which was fantastic. also I can't believe they were successful in four different genres of rock music (punk, hip hop, rap, instrumental). Respect.

Paul's boutique There best album in my opinion Best rap record of all time
@sinclairfourthousand
@sinclairfourthousand 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I first got it when it came out and was a big fan of 60's & 70's rock and funk music from those decades as well. So I knew a lot of those samples and the songs they came from. Listening to Paul's Boutique for the first time I heard not one album, but many. I mean, Curtis Mayfield's Superfly on Egg Man, The Eagles on High Plains Drifter, The Beatles from Sounds of Science, Sly & the Family Stone on 3-Minute Rule, and of course The Commodores on Hey Ladies. There are so many more. It sonic-ally opened my mind to what Giovanni Giorgio said on Daft Punk's Giorgio by Moroder - "You want to free your mind about a concept of harmony and of music being correct, You can do whatever you want."
@TheFrottola
@TheFrottola 5 жыл бұрын
Check Your Head was their masterpiece because of them playing instead of sampling. Looking Down a Barrel of a Gun was the only song on Paul's Boutique that featured them as instrumentalists. I am not underplaying the greatness of Paul's Boutique, but Check Your Head defined their style for their subsequent records.
@dustid
@dustid 5 жыл бұрын
@@TheFrottola I agree - - I prefer license to ill and check you head to pauls b. . . HOWEVER, it is fun to listen to their very heavy sampling as cited by the album name (their fav. music shop . . thus cramming like amillion samples in to a 5min track . . . something that, at the time, was very breakthrough and maybe only public enemy at the time was being as equally inovative with sampling) . . . and hot sauce committee, was probably their most consistent and well structured solid album (hello nasty might be second . . i'd have to revisit them) - that doesn't make it the best, just the most even and digestable . . it's a real shame they had to end as I felt they had some more years of generating, molding, and influencing music ahead of them . . revisiting punk, funk, and sampling with their new fuzz heavy hip hop elements.

If I may, I'd like to recommend listening to Hello Nasty completely start to finish...that album is IMMACULATE and it shows why the Beasties could very well stand next to bands like the Beatles, Floyd, Queen, AND Run D.M.C. if MCA, may God rest His soul, would've still been around and IF they so chose to...in my opinion the best characteristic of all three put together is that they probably wouldn't stand next to anyone lol or if they did they would be their genuine genial goofy selves and that makes them my favorite band period
@Puschit1
@Puschit1 3 жыл бұрын
They were not only super influential - for a very long period they were the only white rappers that were accepted and put in high regard by the black rappers. Not only because they are so good - also because the Beasties always helped out others. They put so many other talents in the spotlight.

Yauch, right. As he was a jew there is a big chance it has German origins. There is the German word „Jauche“ which means manure. No offense, I really like the Beastie Boys, but that could be the origin. The jews were often given derogatory names like Springstein (Jumping Stone) which turned into Springsteen and a lot of other names. Kate Schellenbach is also a typical German word, meaning Ringbrook.
