Sailed my first cruise ever on the Tropicale in May 1985 - LA to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo. Good times! Hard to believe that was 37 years ago!

My husband and I sailed on Tropicale in 1983. The same itinerary as mentioned above. The staff was exceptional. We have a picture of a Chinese cocktail waiter in our bedroom. The first year Tropicale sailed was in Alaska.

I remember while on our cruise, the Tropicale had to make an emergency stop at sea. A passenger onboard was gravely ill and the Coast Guard had to be called in to pick up the sick passenger by helicopter. The helicopter was hovering high above over the rear of the ship, as they had to lower the gurney bed by cable onto the Empress deck lower wading pool platform, where the sick passenger was airlifted off the ship to be flown to a hospital on shore.

Great short and sweet video - sailed on her when she was Pacific Star - as an Australian, i'm grateful you think the ship was in it's nicest stage when she was with P&O, I agree too with the color scheme, blue and yellow, a nice combination.

We had the pleasure of being on one of her first voyages. We sailed on her a total of 5 times and enjoyed each cruise. She was a beautiful ship and rode well. I will never forget her.

She was our very first cruise and probably our most fun, think it was back in 1991 or so. When we checked in, they bumped us up to the Veranda deck to one of the balcony cabins. We have been Carnival fans ever since. The ship was so beautiful and the food was exceptional. We had so much fun in the piano bar. No Wi-Fi or cell phones. We had set seatings for dinner and made great friends. Simpler times I suppose. Thx for posting this and bringing back all those wonderful memories ! 😀

My honeymoon was on the Tropicale back in April 1986. I have such fond memories of all the fun we had on this ship. Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Cabo San Lucas…it was an amazing adventure.

I worked on the Trop for the summer of 98. I always wanted to see her again, but it broke my heart to recently find out she'd visited not 15 miles from here last year and I'd missed it.

Did you know of a Waiter by the name of Walter. Walter used to be our busboy in the main restaurant below, table 98 next to the stairs on the Tropicale back in 82 and 84. Walter had been promoted to a waiter when we came back on the Tropicale in 1989.

My wife and I had the pleasure of sailing the MS Tropical in October 2000 as our very first cruise. Out of Tampa 5 nights to Grand Cayman & Cozumel. A midnight buffet, ice carvings, decoratively cut fruit & veggies and crisp table linen. It was wonderful! Each evening our Maitre d’ - George, The Greek” would greet us over the intercom with his invitation “Dinner is being served.” Today, mainstream cruising seems forced, superficial and contrived. Gone is the “elegance” and decorum of an earlier generation. We’re thankful and consider ourselves fortunate to have experienced the MS Tropical.

Sailed on it when it came to the Pacific for the first time... 1982. Embarked in Acapulco with stops in Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, Puerta Vallarta LA and disembarked in Portland OR for a checkup. Absolutely fun ship and beautifully appointed. Great entertainment too. Fond memories for sure. Only drawback was that it shuddered, stem to stern, when bow hit big waves!!!

I had the pleasure of sailing on this little beautiful gem twice in 1997 - Caribbean in March & Hawaii in October. She's the smallest & oldest ship I've cruised but I loved her features (promenade decks, funky disco, forward & rear viewing decks) & she felt like home. ❤

I worked on her in late 88 to early 89. Port of LA, Cabo, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta itinerary. Absolutely amazing memories, particularly of Mazatlan. The ship was a beaut & personally, just the right size as they got a bit too big after her; but that’s just my opinion.

I went on a Caribbean cruise April 1990, I have lots of Video, mostly of bikini clad Med students from Illinois! Lol I had a great time! The ship was the perfect size. Not too big, not too small.

I was a little kid when I went on this cruise in 1994. The whole ship seemed huge at the time. Also I remember the room steward being so nice and showing me how he made different animals out of the towels 🙂

Had my honeymoon on Tropicale in 1986. Wonderful ship! It was a bit odd by today's standards though. For example, the dining room was nestled deep in the interior and didn't have any windows. There was no dedicated buffet restaurant either. They did shoot skeet and golf balls off the fantail. They also did the sail away party with tons of streamers and a loud party. Dinner was a formal affair with men in suits and ladies in dresses, so it was a very different experience than today.

The Tropicale was the very first cruise ship I ever sailed on as a kid and teen back in the 80's. Me, my sister and folks sailed on the Tropicale back in November 1982, on the second cruise after her maiden voyage. The Tropicale was state of the art back in the day and was the first prototype ship to feature the very popular whale tail smokestack, which would later become the trademark symbol of Carnival Cruise Lines. Me and my folks had sailed on the Tropicale three times back in the 80's, the first time back in 1982, then again back in the summer of 1984 where I celebrated my birthday, and once more in 1989, until she was later reassigned to sail in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1990. The Jubilee had later assumed the Mexican Itinerary in 1990, where the Tropicale used to sail. The Tropicale will always hold a special place in my heart, as she will surely be missed.

Spent two years working and living on the Tropical as Cheif of Staff in the mid 90s. My cabin was on the top deck behind the Bridge. Miss the Ship Doctor, Cruise Director, Captain Pagano. and all the girls from the casino, floor show dancers, and cruise staff. Weekly went from Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guadalupe, Venezuela, Aruba , and Curacao . Good times. Miss my old friends.

Some years ago the peace boat came to my city. They done a really cool visit/event at my school. I was hearing that some students would actually go to visit the ship but only some selected ones. In reality anybody from the school had the opportunity to go to visit the ocean dream, so i missed a opportunity to visit her 😔

I was on this ship in September 1999 when it caught fire in the middle of Mexican waters during a tropical storm and no one ever reports on that!

I've been on 3 or 4 Carnival cruises in the early-to-mid 90s. I'm pretty sure I was on the Tropicale and Jubilee. Don't have any hard evidence though, unfortunately.

Much prefer carnivals earliest ships, personally think the recent scrapping of these ships (holiday, tropicale, celebration, fantasy etc) should of been saved

Honey moon in oct 99. Worst experience ever. Fire on boat the month before. Carpet was wet and smelly. Sewage was backed up in showers and toilets. To beat it all wife and I got food poisoning! Ruined me from ever taking Carnival again.

Actually a lot of people don't realize the average lifespan of a ship is approximately 60 years. That's when the hull gets stress cracks.

That's just not true. Even the ships that are built the best only last about 45 years.

@@professionalidiot07 nope. QE2 is 52 years old. It had to be taken out of service being people want balconies and it would cost way out of bounds to refit for new engines. 52 years.
