I like how the video acknowledges the fact that the Parthians had more than one capital at once. Often times a big deal is made of the Romans sacking Ctesiphon when in reality that was hardly a huge blow and more of a strategic retreat to allow the Romans to overextend themselves and allow the Parthians to counter attack.

Ecbatana was far more strategically valuable. It didn’t really matter if Ctesiphon was sacked but if Ecbatana fell it would spell doom for the Parthians.

@stark You don't magically collapse when the enemy sacks a massive city. It doesn't even necessarily hold true whenever some state historically lost their capital and kept on going. You suffer a major drawback though

It is not bravery if you are stuck between the two and the Scythian tribes in E Russia. The Parthians are first mentioned as a tribal ally/vassal of the Mede and Persian empires in the Iranian NE. The Indo-Ayan language tribe were a vassal under the Greeks, until they revolted and started the Parthian Empire. Later when the Sassanid Persians took over again, i believe the Parthians went back to being a vassal, until the the Arabs came on the SW side and the Turk tribes came in from Asia.

@@a.d.t.mapping yes the sasanids did get close by sieging the whole city with the help of avars and other slavic tribes (a city alone against 3 empires) but the byzantines decisively defeated the Persians by counter attacking and capturing even Ctesiphon later before the arabs attacked both empires : "The loss in the siege came just after news had reached them of yet another Byzantine victory, where Heraclius's brother Theodore scored well against the Persian general Shahin.[12] Furthermore, after the emperor showed Shahrbaraz intercepted letters from Khosrau ordering the Persian general's death, the latter switched to Heraclius' side.[18] Shahrbaraz then moved his army to northern Syria, where he could easily decide to support either Khosrau or Heraclius at a moment's notice. Still, with the neutralization of Khosrau's most skilled general, Heraclius deprived his enemy of some of his best and most experienced troops, while securing his flanks prior to his invasion of Persia.[19] In the next year, Heraclius led an invasion into Mesopotamia once again, defeating another Persian army at Nineveh. Afterwards, he marched on to Ctesiphon where anarchy reigned allowing Heraclius to extract ever more favorable terms as one Persian king was overthrown by another. "

the map have two problem one small and other big, small one is when you tried to put Parthian script as well I cannot see why you did not put Persian pronunciations too because some are totally different with these Greek versions, big one is you did not consider Parthian rule in Armenia way after the desolation of the empire and we do know in a period Parthia ruled over Sothern Pakistan which you did not show.

The Han dynasty was no threat to the Parthians. In fact, they were probably a source of strength for them. The Parthian Empire got rich by, among other things, controlling a key part of the Silk Road. That and the Han were looking for western allies to help them fend off nomadic invaders who were attacking from their west (Parthia's east). One more point about the Silk Road - it was the Roman Empire's only source of quality steel (since they didn't know how to make it - they thought it was naturally occurring because of quasi-steel deposits in the Alps) so Parthia often had better weapons and armor than the Romans when the two squared off. You're right that the Parthians were strong. For most of the united Roman Empire's history (and that of the West Roman Empire) terrain and their opponents mostly forced the Romans to become supreme at infantry and counter-infantry tactics. This made it tough for them to deal with Parthia's predominately calvary armies on open ground (though at the same time, the Parthians themselves often lacked decent infantry so wars between the two empires usually ended in stalemate).

@@hasibtune you're being completely wrong neshapur is not related to Tajiks at all Tajiks used to speak bactrian The northern regions of Afghanistan and parts of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan spoke bactrian (the word bactri in here means shining not other meanings)the Bactrian was influenced by ancient Persian too Khosrow Anushirvan created a new shahrestan by regions which were already in Iran, and by adding the regions that had been captured by the Kushan Empire, he created shahrestan khorasan The word Dari is shortened form of the word Darbari, which means court which was the Persian language was the language of the Court which was Persian. Today's Persian language has its roots in Middle Persian, after the Arab invasion of Iran, the new Persian with the Arabic alphabet, with a slight change from Middle Persian, came into being. @@papazataklaattiranimam Lol Seleucid Emperors were Iranian and Greeks by blood who rule Iran LOOOL Alexander the Great got married to the Persian Princesses. Plutarch " Alexander was overwhelmed by the beauty of Persian women in particular, and they were his weakness. Some historians believe that one Persian with beautiful eyes could even have been the cause of the Alexander’s death. " Seleucus I Nicator , the most successful successor of Alexander the Great, got married to the Persian noblewoman Apama. Seleucus I Nicator was badass, he got about 70 percent of Alexander the Great’s Empire. Seleucus’s Successor was his son by Queen Apama. The Seleucid emperors were Greek-Persian because of : 1. Seleucus’s Persian wife, Apama. 2. The Seleucid Emperors practiced incestuous marriages, so Apama was The Seleucid Emperors’s ancestor from their both sides (their fathers and their mothers) 3. Some of The Seleucid Emperors got married to the Persian princesses of Pontus, the Pontus kings were Persian and the Pontus dynasty founded by the Persian Mithridatic dynasty which have been directly related to Darius the Great, Cyrus the Great. And Culturally the Pontus dynasty were Hellenized-Persian and ethnically Persian. Cleopatra was Greek Macedonian-Persian. Cleopatra and the majority of the Ptolemies did have Persian ancestors. There was two Persian princesses, the princesses were from the Seleucid Empire ( Persian- Macedonian Greek ) and the Pontus dynasty ( Persian ), both of whom married Ptolemaic kings and that is how Persian blood entered the dynasty. Cleopatra’s ancestors were the prominent companions of Alexander the Great, Seleucus I Nicator and Ptolemy I Soter, and Cyrus the Great, Darius the Great. Cleopatra I, the Queen of Egypt was Persian-Macedonian Greek. 2/3 of Cleopatra I was Persian and 1/3 of her was Greek. Cleopatra I was the ancestor of Cleopatra VII's mother and the ancestor of Cleopatra VII's father, because the Ptolemaic dynasty practiced 300 years of incestuous marriages to remain pure, so Cleopatra I was Cleopatra’s ancestor from her both sides (her father and her mother). Laodice III was Cleopatra I’s mother. Laodice III was a Persian princess of Pontus and a Seleucid Queen. She was daughter of the Persian King Mithridates II of Pontus. Laodice III was Antiochus III the Great’s wife and he was the Seleucid Emperor. Antiochus III the Great was Greek-Persian and he was Cleopatra I’s father. Antiochus III the Great’s mother was Persian. In 300 years only Cleopatra spoke the Egyptian language. Cleopatra was ethnically Greek Macedonian-Persian. During the rule of the Ptolemies in Egypt their language was Greek. Cleopatra was the only Ptolemy that learned the Egyptian for the political reasons. Cleopatra was a red-head tend to paler skin. Cleopatra was fluent in the Persian language as well.cry kid

As far as our sources say, by 130 BC Seleucids had reconquered far more lands than just Mesopotamia, pushing into inner Media and regaining control over Parthia's former vassals like Elymais and Persis. Maybe an exaggerated account, but Justin says that Antiochus Sidetes take every Parthian territory except Parthia itself. That campaign is often disregarded. Very good video overall.

Caesar certainly planned to do that, but I'm not sure he could've pulled it off. It would've involved a huge army and some serious negotiating skill to deal with all the vassals. He might've been significantly disadvantaged by the fact that the Parthians had steel weapons and armor whereas the Romans only had iron.
