Hello There! Welcome back to the channel for a little more Primal Carnage, where this time we'll be going over the franchises past and where it's been, to where it's currently at. My apologies for the long span between videos, I'm working on decreasing the time between uploads. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the vid :)

I lost brain cells playing the game but i can't stop. It is one of the only dinosaur games out there thats good and keeps me coming back because its different everytime. But unless the do something mazing then i say RIP Primal carnage. We will miss you.

@@thelastmikester I think you forgot a neat little detail here in the history that could be huge! The Isle crossover with the Phoenix Corp logo and Primal Rex’s roars showing up in the Isle’s trailers

I remember being a lil wee lad, barely knowing english, when I found about this game, and it was at REALLY early stage when I found it. I remember some early ideas the devs had and their plans for the game. The game would be more focused on small but really tight groups, each side needed a certain class to counter a specific class of the enemy team, like a "rock x paper x scissor" system. Trapper was the natural enemy of Raptor, and the Raptor was the natural enemy of Commando who is Rex's enemy, etc. The devs also planned for a mode which the human players had to go through multiple enviroments, solving challenges to reach a new area, the dino players had to kill them. It would be like Left 4 Dead, and there was plans for canyons, jungles, etc. The game would play much slow, the jungle was a dense enviroment which dinos could easily hide, Pathfinder's job would be to literally aid the players through the enviroment (his dog would had been like Daisy from Evolve). "Big Daddy" wasn't the original T-Rex, he was a special NPC that would had worked as a miniboss, instead a much smaller Rex(green dude) would had been the playable version. His roar would be used to mess with players aim and vision, as his roar would had been extremly loud and it would mess with human players screens. Spino was supposed to be NPC out of bounds, that would lurk in lakes and rivers, killing anything that got close to it, some people wanted the possibility to fight him when playing as a Rex, just like in the trailer. Later the devs planned for a Spino miniboss until they choosed for a playable version. Like Rex, Spino also had a smaller version of him with a different color, while the bigger one with yellow colors was the "Alpha". An idea for Commando was the possibility of him being able to melee dinos and get out of some attacks more easily duo to his size. Pyro was meant to be a Compy counter, duo to his flames being a type of weapon meant for crowd control, and Compy was supposed to be a "hive mind" type of class. But duo to the technical difficulties, Compy was canned. While they kept Pyro, his original purpose was lost with Compy. Dilo size was different than the final version. That's all I remember for now.

honestly, primal carnage back in late 2012 was the best time playing it for me, despite playing on a weak laptop that ran the game like sh*t

The why the content drought back then is because the lead we have now (dinosauriac) was a QA back when PCE released being Apoc the lead, who screwed relationship with few contacts, such as artists (which Dinosauriac later contacted this year, getting few awesome pieces for the store) as well as, Apoc, doing such bad decisions, lead to game to hiatus, he vanished and until few peep (Dinosauriac and the last part of the crew) got perms, game kept dead. This is more or so the story

Finally someone that sees the potential of PCE but also notices their bad decisions that's keeping the game from crossing the line from being somewhat decent to good game status.

Thank you so much for this video. I played Primal Carnage as one of the first games I ever got for Steam when I installed it on my gaming pc at the time back in 2013. I have so many fond memories of playing the original game. Get to the Chopper was such an addictive mode. Kaprosuchus was also originally planned as a playable class for the original Primal Carnage too but only ever made it to concept art. Like the Triceratops and Compy, wouldn't make it to the final game, nor Extinction either (Compy restricted to mods and as a enemy in the Survival mode). I do remember how much quicker Extinction felt in terms of movement in comparison to the original game. Much more fluidity. Unfortunately this comes with serious problems when you're a player from somewhere outside the US or Europe like me (Aussie). Playing on international servers is horrible. The spike in lag and latency issues (hit detection etc) makes it unplayable. I ended up abandoning the game altogether due to that and the fact that there was no new updates that came out for ages. There was also the glaring issue that the game's future was being relied upon by skins on Steam Workshop and the lootboxes. At least now I understand what actually happened there. That was until one big update 2 years later finally brought me back. Not long after that, I finally found a server and discord for an Australian Primal Carnage community as well. I had some wonderful times playing PCE with this community. I do agree though, it is a fun game but does suffer from glitches and balancing issues. I ended up stop playing a while ago after I fell out with that Aussie community (interpersonal conflict). Plus, if another game were to come along and do something similar but with more refinement and better balance, Primal Carnage would be in trouble. I am glad however that there is finally PC Evolution coming to PS4.

Always happy to see people talk about their fond memories with Primal Carnage, cause I definitely have some of those memories too. Yeah Australians tend to get shafted with that sort of thing, glad you found a community though, even if you had a falling out. @@thelastmikester No worries, I'm a huge fan of this game series. It basically accomplished 2 things: 1. Was one of the first dinosaur games to come out during that era of indie titles where there was a few dinosaur games on the rise (i.e. The Isle, Ark: Survival Evolved, Stomping Grounds etc). 2. Pays homage to Jurassic Park in terms of its themes, gameplay and even the dinosaurs themselves.

I remember I still played the original game until 2019 with just 20 people playing in 1 server and 1 or 2 hackers every 3 games

I'm way late to this, but the whole reason I left PCE was due to the false promise that was Capture The Egg. We were supposed to get the ability to play that game mode across all maps, but when it launched, we got one, maybe two maps total, and never any others. Ever. That's when I stopped playing. Haven't looked back, really.

I played the original back in 2012, had a bunch of fun. I played Extinction on ps4 lots too, now I'll occasionally play a couple of matches, but as soon as the update gets released on console, I'll definitely play it a bit more

I'm a big fan of the original PC. I tried PCE once and hated it. Movement was too springy and jittery, nothing felt like it had a sense of weight, everything was too bright to the point of things just looking ugly, and the skin microtransactions just come across as nearly predatory. I was not aware that PCE was developed by modders from the original PC community, but that explains a lot. tl;dr, PC good PCE bad.

Well it's not dead yet, but I don't know how long it will last. However, that being said, there tends to be at least one or two full severs each day when I hop on, so there is some activity. It can be fun, but maybe just get it on sale

I think I picture dinosaurs in the game as the good guys while the humans are the bad guys, as their natural habitat is invaded by human mercenaries pillaging their lands and the carnivores had no choice but to settle their differences and fight back to retake their homeland.
