Easily my favorite creature in the entire series, one of the best things about Primeval is how it mixed things up in terms of what species were chosen for each season. Instead of dinosaurs for the first episode it was Permian therapsids and reptiles.

My first encounter with Gorgonopsid/Inostrancevia was when I watched WWM and Primeval scenes on YT. And as kid, Primeval representation scared me so much I hadn't slept during nights. Now, Inostrancevia is my second favourite extinct animal. I wish to have more representation of Paleozoic creatures, which can be as much if not more interesting than dinosaurs. Edit: You also missed a representation in 2009 Animal's Armageddon, where also was Inostrancevia, which was really hairy, but shrink-wrapped.

Gorgonposids are just the cooler Smilodon. They may not be as higly evolved as the true mammals but they were just as powerful and unique.

Honestly, 'Gorgonopsid' rolls off the tongue and is a lot easier to say than 'Inostrancevia'...which is probably the main reason why a lot of people just call it that.

When I was a kid, I didn't think Gorgonopsids were a legit animal and thought Jurassic Park had made it up, because they had a Gorgonopsid toy aka the Tyrannonops from their Chaos Effect line. It was only a few years ago that I learned otherwise. 😅

When Primeval first started back in early 2007 I was very surprised that the first Creature to appear in the first was the Inostrancevia even though they call it a Gorgonopsid but I thought that it made a nice change from the usual Tyrannosaurus and it’s battle with the Future Predator in the finale was awesome, shame that he never returned for series 5 but suppose you can’t have everything. Also I look forward to be seeing a video on the media appearances of Iguanodon or Allosaurus as those guys are my favourites especially Allosaurus. 🙂

I recommend At Earth’s Core mostly cause it has Peter Cushing who is an amazing actor. He always took his roles seriously no matter how silly the movie.

1:29 = The gorgonopsid model also appears in The People that Time Forgot (1977) along with Scutosaurus. It is almost certainly Sauroctonus rather than Inostrancevia as both it and the scutosaur puppet appear based on Zdenek Burian's painting of these two animals together - the gorgon has a row of small scutes on the edge of the skull as in the painting.

Inostrancevia is an interesting enemy to fight in the Dino Crisis 2 video game, since they have thick armour on their backs that protects them from standard weaponry - you have to either use heavy artillery, or use a chainmine to flip them over and expose their underbelly.

Hi, Dino Guy I just found your channel. Instrancevia also shows up in "Animal Armageddon, the Great Dying". I haven't seen "life on our planet" yet so until now I thought it was the only version of a Grogonops with hair. But looking back it's also inaccurate because this version has a spread-out leg posture. Because of that they also showed it suffered with a form of carrier's constraint when O2 levels began to decrease.

Dinosaur Revolution's Inostrancevia has got to be my favorite one. Everytime I see the intro of episode 1 I just wanna see a spin off of the paleozoic creatures before the Dinosaurs, because I really like the animation and the design of Inostrancevia in this documentary.

My first introduction to Inostrancevia was Dino Crisis 2 and I adore its presence there to this day; it was unique, the stomping was climactic as well as volcanic environment- even if its armor was fictional, to me it presented the primal, old, unknown to many(I mean, less known than dinosaurs even) as well as given volcanic surrounding it fits given Permian extinction. Oh, and the roar! Such an awesome design, memorable clearly to this day :>

Turok (2008) has gorgonopsyds, or genetically engineered creatures resembling them. They're one of the fastest enemies in the game and can climb trees and ambush the player.

@@prehistoricchannel128 Ceratosaurus is definitely a dinosaur that's not well understood despite being popular. I just recently learned that it has fused nasals like a tyrannosaur in addition to some of the longest teeth of any theropod and spinosaur like conical teeth in the front of its mouth. That makes it a very effective generalist predator.

Is Inostrancevia showing up more because the media shows an Inostrancevia but calls it Gorgonops? Like most depictions of Brachiosaurus actually being based on Giraffatitan? Because I have barely heard the name Inostrancevia but I feel like I've heard Gorgonops lots of times. Maybe its because they just say Gorgonopsid so I think Gorgonops

From what I’ve witnessed, they typically just use the family name of Gorgonopsid, rather than specifying a genus. But, Inostrancevia is usually the one that’s used on account of its larger size.

I like to address gorgonopsid hybrids from Jurassic World Alive since they have cool features- Dakotanops- with mix of Dakotaraptor DNA it gives a feathery appearance that gives a dire wolf-like appearance Edaphocevia- with mix of Edaphosaurus DNA is more less of a edaphos with saber teeth but still look neat. Inostherium- mix of Archaeotherium DNA it gives scariest looking synapsid hybride as look like Ganon from Zelda Parasauthops [my fav]- is a Acrocanthops [mix of arctops and Acrocanthosaurus] mix with glowing parasaurolophus, is most dinosaur-looking gorgonops [by humpback and crest] but it reminds me of viperwolf or any animal from Pandora in Avatar

I mean considering its basically a monitor lizard cosplaying as a tiger, you can go a lot of ways when reconstructing the mighty Inostrancevia - more reptile, more mammal, 50-50 split, bright colours or dark colours etc. I personally like the more mammalian-leaning interpretations of it, especially the ones in Dinosaur revolution - the different fur patterns on the individuals in that scene were a nice touch, too. The Primeval one looks actually pretty neat too - maybe not 100% accurate (hey, what paleo art even is?) but on a creature design basis I can't fault it for exaggerating its iconic features to make it look 'cooler' for the sake of the show.

Speaking of lips to Cover the saber teeth, i can easily see how they could be attached to the skull on thylacosmilus via the flanges But with smilodon? I would love to hear a the theory on how lips fo those long saber theeth attached to the skull without flabbing around and possibly being pierced by the saber teeth 😅😅

I like the designs of inostrancevia that have whiskers and some fur. The more common naked representations seem odd to me. In my eyes anytime a representation of an extinct animal that looks too similar to its skeleton is usually inaccurate.

I do wonder how late in synapsid evolution did more superficially mammal features like fur and external ears appear. Would therapsids have had pinnae? Or cynodonts at least? Would the platypus and echidna lacking outer ear flaps mean it wasn't a thing until marsupials and placentals' common ancestor?

I believe the lack of ear flaps in extant Monotremes might have been the result of them being descended from semi-aquatic ancestor instead of them being ancestrally earless That being said, the safest assumption would be that pinnae likely evolved in Cynodont lineage close to mammal ancestry or Mammaliaformes themselves

I doubt this will ever be read, but the gorgonopsid featured in At The Earth's Core is NOT Inostrancevia. It is actually Sauroctonus because it and the Scutosaurus in that film, are directly based on a painting by Burian that features those two genera (the gorgonopsid in the film shares the exact same colors as the Sauroctonus). The internet is not really reliable when it comes to old dino B-movies, plenty of misinformation all around.

JW alive can atleast excuse giving animals rare colors such as blue since they are genetically enhanced creatures and are often created with many different variants (just look at the Velociraptor). If i would have to give a more realistic one colors, then i would choose red. Red would be a cool display color especially for males.

Unlike dromaeosaurs, we actually do not know the integument, or lack thereof, on gorgonopsids. We KNOW early mammals, and probably some other cynodonts too, had hair. But as for other synapsids, so far we only have scutes and bare skin. Though filaments were found in the dung of an animal from a time much earlier than we expected hair to appear. I think it was during the time of the dimetrodon? We do not know if these filaments were hairs or not. If they were, then it is possible the synapsid line was VERY hairy and we've just been getting unlucky with our discoveries. As for gorgonopsids, we don't have any idea how their skin looked. Hair is possible for them, as it is with all synapsids, but it's not currently considered very likely due to the fact we only find solid evidence of hair in the late cynodonts.
