It strikes me how much shoe culture has changed since I was a kid. In the 80s and 90s, you always wanted your shoes to look "broken in." You'd never want to wear a brand new pair of sneakers to school without wearing them at home walking the dog and mowing the lawn for a while first. Now kids want them to look new and shiny forever.
@rompevuevitos222Ай бұрын
That sounds pretty weird tbh. Like, why would you want your shoes to look worse?
@dexmartin4358Ай бұрын
@@rompevuevitos222 You didn't want them to look "worse." You just wanted them not to look new. It was the same with jeans. Jeans these days come pre-distressed, but they used be solid dark blue denim when they were new, and you'd never want to wear them like that where people could see you. So you'd wear them at home until they'd been washed a few times and started to fade.
@rompevuevitos222Ай бұрын
@@dexmartin4358 I do know about the new trend of buying broken jeans. I still don't get it at all. Like, people will see a tear in a shirt and think "oh they must be too poor" and then buy worn clothes. It genuinely baffles me.

The irony is that the best shoes is what is practically just beavers on our feet. The ideal material for making the best shoe literally has to be grown. Dead animal skin is like a zombie, it doesnt rot and is durable in most situations but just not rare situations. Most people who are not wearing practically beavers on their feet are most likely boot licking their corporate overlord.

Wooden shoes look so uncomfortable. Getting them off and on must have been a nightmare, since you can't stretch wood to make room. Plus, wood tends to change shape over time due to humidity.

I miss my Vibrams, they were the only shoe I've ever bought that fit, and when your someone like me that has to not wear shoes a lot since none fit my feet then finding a shoe that fits is the best thing in the world, and I mean this instead of going to a pediatrist and it ends up costing you 1K for a pair of shoes. I wish I could find a place that sells them again, you have to try them on since each model fits so different. So online it's hard to know what size is going to fit.

The first shoe EVER was the piece that stuck to the sole of some person walking without shoes. But I am also certain that we will never find the intentional first shoe because it could be just about anything that's flat and big enough for a foot to stand on. I was going to go with something wrapped around the foot, like a leaf, but really a piece of bark of a tree could just as easily be it.

I pretty much have the pre-historic mindset when it comes to footwear. I'm barefoot most of the time when its not needed so my feet are naturally resilient and tough. but the protection and ergonomic advantages of practical footwear are just too good to not use. Every concept. Every fad every, new age health trend. has a kernel of truth to it, but we should never go to the extremes of admonishing all forms of conventional footwear (looking at you barefoot runners), but at the same time we should also condition our feet to work as they do naturally.

My take away is Shoes have a very intricate and fascinating history. Starting off as a utilitarian necessity and then becoming a fashion accessory to distinguish social classes. Shoe classism still exists to this day due to its deep cultural history. Toes disappeared after the Roman empire became Christian for about a thousand years. And pointer shoes the better. Also the first sport shoes were made by converse.
