@Resonant You clearly dont know much about russian-ukranian soldiers of those times. Those Bersekers must not be there, there where no bersekers on Slavianic territories. Surgians must mostly haveVaryags and Druzzinnik troops which are the most realistic russian warriors of those times.

Some pieces of dialogue suggest that part of the lords in Sturgia descended from nords who came to Calradia for the promotion of coins in exchange for services to the sturgian prince.The other lords are from ancient dynasties native from the sturgian forests. Apparently both Nords and Vaegirs exist in the same period as Sturgia in Bannerlord.

​​@@gormbenjaminssonranden6937i prefer olek the old who led the sturgians against the imperial fort at the battle of pendraic after the prince fell. He captured the imperors dragon banner from the emporer himself and when the princes son raganvad arrived after the battle ended he demanded olek give him the banner. Olek broke the banner over his knee and told the child prince "find your own toys to play with".

Fun fact, You can actually read about the land of Grikkland in runes around Uppland in Sweden. Grikkland was the Byzantine Empire for the Vikings. This is the reason why swedes today says Grekland to Greece. One rune tells a story about a viking, now I forgot his name, that fought for the Byzantine Empire, then he returned home to what is Sweden today trying to organize his people like the byzantines did.

@@blanketparty5259 what makes this theory even less believable, is that it originated after Russia has crushed the Swedish empire. And there was a lot of rusophobia at the time. Also, archeological evidence suggests that Kievan Rus was much more developed than Scandinavia back then, making it difficult for northman to become ruller.

Most of the Europe of that time used same weapons and same armor (gambeson, hauberk a.k.a chain mail shirt, and nasal helmet.... if they used helmets at all, spears, axes and nobility had swords)... it had nothing to do with Varangyans or vikings in general. You can look at details such as hilts and pommels on swords but that is about it. If i took a guy in gambeson and hauberk and bearded axe from Russia, put him next to a guy in same gear from Norway and a guy from then Great Moravia you would not be able to tell them apart.

The Kievan Rus was founded by traders and radiers originating (aka vikings) from Sweden. The majority of the populace of the Rus were slavic and baltic people while the nobility and upper class was mostly scandinavian. Which is why the Sturgians have a mix of slavic and scandinavian armor and names.

Well, the first rules of the Kievan Rus' were Vikings/Rus/Varangians, mostly Swedes. But I guess Sturgia isn't a complete copy of the Kievan Rus', I think it takes inspiration from both the Vikings who forst founded it, and the Slavic peoples who lived there

I think they will change appearance of most npc's before release. At least I hope so. I think some of them look good, but some just terrible. Especially Sturgians. If you play with their models in character creation you can see, that most of their males are dwarfs. Their height sliders are all the way down. Most of the Sturgian females are actually taller then males. Also many of them don't look Nordic, nor Slavic, nor Baltic, nor Finnish at all. There is weirdly small amount of blondes with light eyes among Sturgian nobility. Honestly some of them look like Sturgian ladies had some adventures with guys from Khuzait. Also there are not enough beards and mustaches among Sturgians. Nord without beard is like Slav without mustaches.

In my playthroughs so far the battanians and sturgians have always gotten crushed by other factions before I even got a chance to fight them

Prob cuz its has really bad trading routes, the pathway through sturgian territories are really narrow and prone to easy bandit/sea raider attacks, and also khuzait is generally op

The Rus in real history were nordic men from sweden who ruled over slavic people. The Kieven Rus was a nation founded by both nordic and Slavic people. It seems the bannerlord creators wanted to create the same thing as an origin prelude to both the Nords of later calradia and the Vaegirs

I've made custom sturgian troops maybe you'd like to see. I've actually reworked all of the troop trees to make them simpler and stronger. The idea is to make the game less of a grind. My main complaint is with recruits being extremely weak and picked off by archers too easily even in Realistic Battle Mod.
