I have always enjoyed the contradiction of Jaehaerys, competent and just ruler with a chaotic family and furious beast of a dragon. It has made me more fond of Vermithor than any of the other dragons.

It's worth mentioning that Vermithor is named after the Valyrian God of smiths, crafts, and artisans. Also I know it's not specifically related but... Rest in Peace Nettles. You will be remembered as we cringe through the broken and bleeding shreds of your story that are to be unceremoniously draped upon Rhaena like some kind of twisted Papier-mâché.

Great vid as usual. Vermithor definitely one of the biggest most iconic dragons we know of in this universe. In my head canon i tend to think Vhagar hatched Vermithor ; they share the "V" in their names and Vermithor seems to be especially huge and ferocious as well. In the text I always felt Vermithor (and Silverwing) deserved better with their successor riders after Jaehaerys and Alysanne , Hugh especially the textual version is quite awful. Also Vermithor (again with Silverwing) provide an interesting seemingly unique dynamic with dragon-bonds and relations between dragons. Quite often we see with new dragon-bonds / new riders abrupt loyalty shifts from the dragons , often quite content to turn on dragons and riders once quite very friendly and familiar with. But the bond between Vermithor and Silverwing seemed to transcend rider bonds given the time together and seemingly love between them. Will make for a heart-wrenching moment on screen on HotD eventually showcasing the level of that bond during a tragic moment. Certainly an interesting insight and dynamic there and seemingly quite a unique one at that, the deep seemingly unbreakable bond between Vermithor and Silverwing.

Jaehaerys lived so much (for Westeros standards) that when he died in 103 AC and Vermithor became "available", his three Targaryen grandchildren (Viserys, Daemon and Rhaenys, Aemma was born Arryn) were already old enough and had already claimed their dragons. After, almost everyone bonded with hatchlings (Rhaenyra, Laenor, Aegon, Daeron, Jace, Luke, Joffrey, Aegon, Viserys, Baela, Jaehaerys, Jaehaera and later Rhaena), exceptions being Helaena, that chose Dreamfyre and Laena and Aemond, that chose Vhagar. Point is, right before the Dance the Targaryens had so many dragons and eggs that two large ones, Vermithor and Silverwing, could just stay there unridden in Dragonstone for decades because pretty every Targaryen had their own dragon, they had more dragons than dragonriders.

I'd be interested in a video breaking down the likely parentage of the dragon seeds, at least for the show where we get a little more info. You said Hugh's mother is Saera, while most other's I've heard talking about it have speculated that his mother was a bastard of Jaehaerys. My math is that the three possibilities are that Jaehaerys had an illegitimate daughter that became a prostitute, Alysanne had an illegitimate daughter that became a prostitute or that one of their legitimate daughters (most likely Saera) became a prostitute and had a baby that she visited regularly. I can think of strong reasons for and against any of these possibilities so I'd love to hear your thoughts.
