Those BRILLIANT little Hoover single tubs with their side-mounted "boiling action" pulsators, and the later Hoover Twins or Hoovermatics. To this day the BEST machines ever made!
@WeHadOneOfThose Жыл бұрын
They certainly were, just got on with the job, very fast action , you usually only needed a few mins for it to wash, and testament to how many are still working today 70 years on .

My uncle (a design engineer) co designed the first Ariston front loading washing machine. He used to travel to Italy to oversee the production, early 1960s ish?. . Sadly he passed away in July this year, but it was fascinating to hear about his work. Even into his 90s he liked the latest gadgets.

Hello Barbara, lovey story of your Uncle, the unsung forgotten hero`s of washing machine design & production. It would be great to have any info so we could tell the story of your Uncle, drop us an email please.

I notice that top loader washers were rare in the UK. Very common in the US.
@markjoseph65283 жыл бұрын
Correct. I think it is because UK smaller kitchens fit the machine under the counter, so it must open from teh front. My friends top loader in LA beats the colour out of my clothes!
@WeHadOneOfThose Жыл бұрын
We did have a few top loaders in the 60`s such as Parnall, Servis & Hotpoint but as Mark said most houses here had washing machines in the kitchen and under the sink drainer and fitted with kitchen cabinets became very popular for a streamlined look. You usually found many top loaders in big kitchens / utility rooms / farmhouses etc .

Great video, cant believe there was a machine thay took a card to select a cycle, that feels so futuristic. What do you think is next for washing machines? I'd like to see something that can fold or at least sort clothes out for air drying.

Hello Jack, well they can work great if programmed well, but there are many that are so faffy these days you can understand while people change machines or hark to the older machines they had that just got on with the job.

One of the best collections ever. And 1 I have yet to actually see. Me and mike king are the only 2 of the washing machine collectors club to own a V Zug washing machine. Come to my channel and go visit chestermikeuk to see more.

Where is the museum? My late mum had a Hoovermatic with the big plate thing. I had a twin tub, I love washing machines
@WeHadOneOfThose4 жыл бұрын
We are looking at ways of funding for a public museum / display space at the moment these machines are housed in a collectors private home.
@adrianawhelan48564 жыл бұрын
chestermikeuk thank you for your reply. I hope you get the funding for a museum, I think children and adults alike would be interested in seeing how machines started out

My Hoovermatic is lurking in a cupboard and still works, I'd hate to throw it out. So if you're ever up for an adoption let me know.

Hi Davie, hope you dont mind me asking but where do you live? I have a Supermatic plus 9404 which I am having problems trying to get to a lady in Ireland. Was hoping you might be closer and she could purchase from you instead. I am in Scotland.

Hello Jan, yes its great ( or not ) we can instantly remember how it made us feel just by seeing the pictures etc. What was your first automatic model ?

All those machines are so tiny!
@WeHadOneOfThose Жыл бұрын
They where standard size for UK and most of Europe , but some of these small front loaders washed the same size load of the equivalent top loader from Whirlpool, GE and Frigidaire in the 60`s / 70`s etc .

Is there a big difference in powder and liquid.? Powder better priced
@DriPak3 жыл бұрын
Powder has optical brighteners which could mean better results. Liquids may be more gentle on colours. Both benefit from the addition of Soda Crystals.
