Youre right, I thought I was the only one-lol I would love to be in your club as I love all things mechanical. I have my aunts old 1977 GE Filterflo still going strong. I just got done freshening it up with some new parts - Belt, clutch, changed the transmission fluid to full synthetic along with a new bottom oil seal, new water control valve, new water pump, top gasket underneath the top panel. I love it, I was there the day they brought it into my aunts house brand new and now 40 years later I still have it and love the way it works and all the memories attached to it.

I have always had a passion for all appliances especially washers and dryers. For as long as I can remember. My uncle use to tease me about when I was a little boy I would put my ear against the washer to hear it. I love the different sounds of different washers. Such as the woo woo sounds. The sound of the contact switch. The sound of water currents. The advancing of the timer. That click clunk is like poetry in motion to me. I think I must've been an engineer in a past life. It is weird even for me but I love my appliances. Thank you Mr. Charles warms my heart to know I'm not crazy. Where I come from it's weird to be fascinated about appliances..

How does one join? Like Jon said, I thought I was the only one! My wife says I have a problem. I used to get into trouble when I was a kid, watching the laundry (until I took over it), my Mom said it wasn't normal! For me, doing laundry, laundry detergents/bleach/softener, and the machines that do/did them best is like going to a Theme Park - pure heaven. Pleasure. Joy! It's definitely a problem....has to be, but I don't know what psychosis this would be called.

I started to when I was a kid. I would be home from school and go down to the basement with her when she did the wash. I used to hear all the noises the machine would make. I would open the lid and watch the wash action of the agitator going back and forth. Than I would push the lid switch down and than watch the wet clothes get pinned up against the tub when the machine hit the spin cycle. I used to imagine spinning in the machine too. 😂

I've come to the conclusion that the LG washer/dryer is the best after 4 years of watching and waiting. LG washers get the highest marks for cleaning by Consumer Reports and this machine does it all: washes, dries using a condensing system, and steam - does everything but fold them for you!!!

I kept my vintage harvest gold GE venthood/stovetop/oven....found a vintage harvest gold kitchenaid Hulbert dishwasher-getting it restored and a 1970's GE fridge w/wooden handles-getting it painted harvest gold-i was also lucky to find a maytag washer/dryer frm 1975 hardly used, getting installed soon....I never thought I could love appliances as I now do!!!

I wish I had known about this group a few years ago when I had seven washers and two dryers! Wife talked me into getting rid of all but two when we relocated! I thought I was the only nut interested in clothes washers-wringer, automatic top and front loaders, combination washer/dryer units. I would give a ridiculous sum to have my 1962 Frigidaire Imperial washer and gas dryer back!

Some people sit around and watch TV together, some BBQ, and others do their laundry. Good for them! And then they have a margarita while they wait! Why are people being so mean about this? So what? Let's see if you have enough balls to show us what you do for "fun", and then we'll decide if it's fun or not.

I'm one of these strange people who have always enjoyed doing laundry, especially if I had a decent-sized laundry room and access to a clothesline. I raised 4 children and did tons of laundry. Now I'm 60 years old & live alone in an apartment, can't have a clothesline, don't have much to wash--I miss it! And I'd also give anything for a perfectly functioning washing machine from the 1950s or 1960s. They were built to last. I was married for 25 years and went through about 5 washers because they kept breaking down. My mother bought a Whirlpool in 1965 and it lasted almost 25 years. If I could go to this man's house to do my laundry, I would. It would be such fun!

My grandmother had a 1975-76 Kenmore 60 Series washer….. and it was (as many then) made to operate with the lid open!!!!! I would stand on a chair and watch it FOREVER!!!! I still remember the sounds it’s made as it could hum you to sleep as it washed! And then…. Almost symphonic… it drained and shifted into spin….. it was the most awesome sound to me! That machine ran from the day they bought it new, till literally the day after my grandmother died in 1990. It felt so symbolic to me. But I loved watching washers and dryers go round and round…. I didn’t need a baby sitter….. just a trip to the washateria or any place with a washer I could watch! I remember when I found out how to make it spin with the lid up….. holy shit…… I was in MY HEAVEN!!!!! Lol!!!! To this day I’d still like to own a rebuild, showroom ready Kenmore Washing Machine 60’s Series. Or any Kenmore of that 75-78 era.

Hi Kyle my mom used to have a Lady Kenmore 800 series yes machine would run with lid open and I would push the switch down and watch it run into the spin cycle. I still remember how that machine worked than we had replaced the machine with an 1980 whirlpool and that machine operated to with the lid open. I tried climbing in one time. Lol . I am a spin spray guy.😂
