This book and tv series should be part of the Education Curriculum. In all countries across the globe.
@jlewis61956 жыл бұрын
yeah definitely, I agree because school needs less fact sand more imagination so the children can "think outside the box" and have a greater understanding of the universe and the fact that things are not always what they seem

in the beginning the universe was created, this was widely regarded as a bad move.

many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place.

And some said even the trees had been a bad move and that no one should have left the oceans.

Don't expect hate at all. The TV series was MARVELOUS! I deeply recommend the radio show, many people consider it the first and BEST version. Ironically, the books are actually done Last, written AFTER both the TV show and the Radio show.

Brilliant Very cool part of the tv series and actually pretty groundbreaking at the time Excellently portraying the visuals to the unmistakably wonderful Peter Jones as 'The Book'

I enjoyed the movie because it tried some things differently. I wouldn't have wanted to sit through just a verbatim adaptation of the TV show or radio show or books, so while it changes many things, it's mostly harmless.

@twdalbeck27 i didn't say the radio show followed the books. i said they're the only other iteration that lives up to them. As I feel the books are the best and most fully developed of the incarnations of the H2G2. That's all I meant. Sorry, I wasn't more clear.

How many times better was this than the movie? 42
@stephentyrrell5951 Жыл бұрын
At 41 seconds there is an animation of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the middle of the 3 body-builders. On the right, I think is Bill Pearl and on the left it could be Franco Columbo. And if you ever saw the documentary 'Pumping Iron', you will know that Mike Katz really didn't know where his towel was! Or was it his T shirt?

the ultimate ref for HHGTTG is the original 2 radio series. I think the Futrama people could make a good shot at something **based** on HHGTTG. Live action stuff gets snarled up in special effects that detract from the point.

@twdalbeck27 In any case, the first two radio series were first, then the books, then the last three series. And I strongly reccomend the radio series. They're all brilliant.

@EXRazeBurn I don't really see how the choice for the role of Trillian in the movie is a mistake. Trillian is described as having black hair in the book. She has black hair in the movie, but blonde hair in the TV series. And what the hell makes you think they tried to cram the whole book series into a 2 hour movie when THEY DID NOT. The movie is based on only the first book.

its 10 times better, which makes the total 11 if you count the original.

@CardinalDextrous83 Don't be so sure. Dawkins first rose to fame in 1976 with his book "The Selfish Gene". THHGTTG came out in 1978. In any case, Jones has his own voice, and Dawkins has his own. Neither is impersonating either.

Not quite correct Crossroads Inc.-the original books The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and The Restaurant at the end of the Universe were written in 1979 and 1980 and published by Pan Books - after the original radio shows but before the TV adaptation. The remainder of the trilogy (in 5 parts) were published in 1982,1984 and finally 'Mostly Harmless in 1992. Today is Towel day -25th May -celebrating the life and works of Douglas Adams

@Gryfu1 A good sceneplay by no means makes a good movie. While it is usually clever writing, the movie (I'm assuming you mean the newer one) often doesn't fully capture the atmosphere of the series (televised or radio) or the books, and the actors, while some were good choices (i.e. Arthur Dent and the narrator) most were horrendous mistakes (i.e. Trillion, Zaphod Beeblebrox). Not to mention that since it is a movie, it tries to cram the whole book series into one 2 hour affair. Aweful.
@ObjectsInMotion14 жыл бұрын
you are wrong. if it is 1000% better, then it is 10 100%s better, and if a 100% is one time better, then it is 10 one-time-betters, or ten times better. if you have one apple, and someone else has 6 times more than you, then they have 6 apples not 7.

This series is decent enough. I don't think either the TV series or film live up to the books. The Radio show does. I still prefer the recent movie, above all others though.
