Ordered my set only yesterday. The cover-art and illustrations aside, what attracted me to this collection was the fact that the typesetting is some of the best I've seen in a LOTR book. The books themselves aren't unwieldy and the lettering isn't the kind that'd make you wish you had the eyes of an Elven-Archer in order to read them clearly.

It really is an amazing set. They definitely packed yours up better. Amazon didn't pad my box properly so it got damaged during shipping (one of the sides came loose basically). The books themselves were undamaged, and I was able to fix up the box for the most part luckily. Great art in the books, and amazing paper quality as well. Easier to read than the other sets due to having a larger font too. All in all well worth the money and the best boxed set imo!

Does the paper quality beat the 50th anniversary? And is the binding sewn? I hate the glue binding on my 50th. Just got to handle setting out with the 3 on shadowfax, and I have the middle pages sticking up out for the book in a cheap way. The first and last pages of the book also fell out of place from the glue enough to sit out and flat instead of cascade. It's so sad to see on an otherwise glorious book and display

I've not heard that they're too limited (they're not numbered or anything), but I do know they're mostly being sold in the UK which is why there's lower stock than a normal edition I think!

Just ordered this on Amazon yesterday for around €95 (shipping included), i think it’s a good deal. Immediately after placing my order, I asked them to label the package as fragile, because I’ve heard “stories” about Amazon sometimes not really caring about the packaging and books arriving in bad shape. Nevertheless, it was dispatched today and I can’t wait 😁

@@julia7810 it arrived in great condition, though that had to to more with the sturdy slipcase, but the box itself did its job very well. You’d do well to mention to customer service that you’d like the package to be extra durable and even lie about having packages arrive in bad condition. They should send a request to the shipping team. That’s how I got my second order in double packaging + thic plastic wrap.

Are the bindings on these books sewn in? I see they have ribbons, which usually means they're sewn, but not always. Still debating whether to order this set from Amazon or not, due to the risk of it getting damaged in shipping. I would recommend these editions purely because I love the illustrations! Plus you can get Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales in a similar style to have a bigger collection. I know the 60th Anniversary Box Set has original artwork from Tolkien on the cover, but I think it's the same artwork from previous paperbacks and I'm not sure if there's anything extra with them.

Paper quality is good, text is easy to read, the illustrations are beautiful, and the books themselves feel sturdy. I found the quality to be good, they're not Folio Society level editions but they're also a lot cheaper than those, so for me they're worth the price!

I would recommend the paperback ones if it's your first read through! Firstly, it's a lot of money for a risk of not liking the book 😅 and secondly the books a quite heavy in hardback so I think paperback would be easier to read in general!
