I was about to type that until I saw you comment. You have a Team with the longest cup drought in League history and no sight of winning the cup realistically. Their GM has no clue what he is doing and makes very little changes year after year. After they get eliminated in the 1st round for 6 straight years. They will lose, but like the typical leaf Management, never hold anyone accountable and will spare him humiliation by moving him to a cushy role, like director of player relations or some garbage like that. Yes Leafs are the biggest laughing stock in the NHL and in top 10 in pro sports

Torts was the guy to right this ship. The Flyers gave up a lot of goals the last several years. Torts preaches responsible D zone play. If you can't take care of your own end, how can you create offense? So If Philly can clean that up, and play correctly in the Dzone they can be competitive. They aren't going to light up the score board, but if they play right on defense it will keep them in games. Torts is the perfect coach for this. I'm excited and like this hire. I think its a step in the right direction towards turning this team around.

Flyers fan here, I think the best possible thing to happen would be to play youngsters and create growth while finishing low in standings. It's not often you have already two almost guaranteed franchise players in the draft coming up. We need every chance we can get at getting one of the two. Rare opportunity for us to kill two birds with one stone. Create growth in our younger talent and finish low enough to hopefully grab a piece that could be the one to send us into a competitive and entertaining future. It's been forever since we've had a truly incredible player to watch on the flyers, so if it takes one more miserable season and being a laughing stock I'll take it for hopefully a decade plus of fun and entertaining hockey. Great video analyzing torts, and I have both my concerns and my excitement about how he'll blend with us. Chuck on the other hand, needs to be abandoned. Not sure if it's flyers owners or his desperation to have a winning team, but he's reaching too far on a team that's too far gone. He's watering a dead plant instead of tearing it up and planting a new one. Great video, first I've seen of yours 👍

As a Devils fan I am definitely nervous about playing them the first game of the season. We rely too much on generating chances off the rush and it seems like that plays too much into the hands of Torts’s system. Feels like we are in for a rude awakening opening night. He’s definitely a mastermind when it comes to putting together a defensive gameplan. Torts is clearly a great defensive coach and has the ability to get more out his players. However the teams he previously coached had way more talent than the Flyers. In Columbus he had a young Jones and Werenski, Savard, a young Dubois, Panarin, and Atkinson. The roster he is coming into for the Flyers is way worse especially with the injuries to Courturier and Farabee. My girlfriend lives right outside of Philly and I will most likely be going to see Devils-Flyers at Wells Fargo on December 3rd. Fingers crossed that we win. Love your content btw. I like how you analyze team’s systems.

@Semaj23262 жыл бұрын
@@hockeypsychology They need to figure out how to have more diversity in the way they win games. Depending on scoring off the rush only works when your team is super fresh. They were able to do that and exploit some tired teams last year, like when they trounced Vancouver 7-2 or when they beat Colorado and the Rangers in March, but that's not gonna work a lot of nights. Hopefully the additions of Palat and Haula and having a healthy Miles Wood can bring the needed sandpaper to grind out some wins.

He's a utility coach as in perfect to get a disengaged team back together, back in shape and bring the dormant talent out of the team. He's bad at handling star players and if he stays for a longer while, there can be conflicts with said players and the stars will leave and they will be disheartened. Keep an eye on the Flyers/Pens game on 10/25. This will be a good litmus test to see if Torts in making a difference in Philly. Growing up a Pens fan from Pittsburgh, I always hated the Flyers and their fans always hated us. It’s the kind of old time hockey rivalry that makes the sport so fun to watch. However, since the rise of Sid and Ovi, the Pens vs Caps rivalry has overshadowed the Pens vs Flyers one. As far as 10/25 goes, with the Pens playing in Pittsburgh two days before and back in Pgh the next day, they might be distracted and tired. If Torts and team make a statement against the Sullivan system, that would certainly get the Philly fans on board and could be the spark the team needs for a playoff run. For as much as I always hated the Flyers, I do miss the competitive rivalry. It made for some great (and long) games.

New sub here…..and Flyers Fan. Torts move would have played well with our former Owner Ed Snider. He built the bullies reputation on toughness and Torts will make the team tougher to play against which Ed would have liked. Last year was ice Capades at the Wells Fargo,

Don't think Torts is an "old style coach at all". He loves the camera too much....he's a celebrity coach.

I'm not sure Philly can make it to the playoffs even with Torts doing his job perfectly. The situation is just too messy and dire. I would be happy if they did and it would surprise me. What I'm observing primarily is to see the team getting it back together and start to build things up and maybe get some good trades during the next four seasons with Torts and then we can see great things happening.

Good job on the analysis. Torts will get the most out of his players. He will reward those he likes and make anyone uncomfortable he has a problem with. Laughton or Konecny will at least be alternate captains. In time there will be friction with Torts, especially if a fan favorite like Couturier gets his wrath. He rules out of fear. You dont play the way he wants, you will not play.

I think Torts is the right coach, but this is going to be a tough year. No way this team will make the playoffs. They lack talent, the Dmen are way below average, and they lack speed. No coach can overcome these deficiencies. They will struggle mightily to score goals. They have to get rid of Fletcher who has drafted and traded terribly. He should get the axe when this team wins less than 30 games this season, but ownership will probably blame Torts and fire him instead.
@hockeypsychology2 жыл бұрын
I agree. Torts will have some leeway to get this team on track, but 2-3 years at most

As a hungry Flys fan born in 79 (witnessing multiple Cup final fails), I was immediately was gonna start poppin ish like an idiot at very beginning….but you know what the F you’re talking about. Facts all around . Torts being head coach is the BEST NEWS for Philadelphia. At least they will begin to become a top contender…maybe not this season or next…but if Fletcher the f**ko brain trades away everyone, they will never be the opponent to beat. Stay with this roster (which is very tough now if ya look) they can be like a Capitals cup winning team a few years ago. There’s a heavy handful of players that will hit hard and fight ANYONE! Facts!

@@hockeypsychology As MacKinnon calls Betzy 'Surfer Dude' which is mellow, I don't picture Torts that way, some players need that I just don't know. Some players had problems with Patrick Roy coaching style.

I feel like Torts is probs overrated, he had a Columbus team with an amazing roster, and didn’t do anything with it.(Panarin, Atkinson, Jones, Jenner, Bjorkstrand, Dubois(he was good there), Duclair and Werenski. And btw also Bob That should be enough to be an ELITE team.

The big thing about DuBois in columbus that everyone seems to ignore, is that Dubois' effort was poor because of torts' behavior as a coach. Torts is just now a bad coach now and has no clue how to be successful in the current NHL, and is frankly unhinged.

If the flyers play off the forecheck and use the size they have.. they could maybe get a first round exit. But that'd be progress, no joke. Farabee, tippett, they got young talent, it could work out - and torts actually coached the jackets v well for many seasons (u pointed out some good parallels between the 2 teams)

As someone who is die hard Philly, trash the entire team. Restart. I just wonder what the 19-20 squad could’ve done with torts as the coach. Maybe a cup? Who knows. We need a redo in Philly as far as hockey goes.

Hard core flyers fan for life. I think it goes beyond coaching. I'm starting to feel like Chuck Fletcher hates the organization. Why on earth would he keep doing this to us. Is it a coincidence that stars such as Ellis came to us and either gets season if not career ending injuries? Or even worse make bad trades with our net minders such as Bob? I love and hate torts. I'm not liking the distance he's pushing Hayes further out the locker room. Lastly, I love the addition of Tony d. Yet I'm starting to see the tension between him and some of the team. The other night he scored from the blue line and then waited for the guys On ice to catch up to him for the celebration. I'm wondering if anybody else noticed how TK couldn't even look him in the eye basically snubbing him. It doesn't seem that the beef between him and TK has been squashed. Anyone else noticing that?

I've been following the Flyers since 1998. This team is the worst in franchise history-even worse than the 2006-07 team that finished dead last in points. What they need is to tank for 3-4 years and build around a number one center, wing, defenseman, and goalie. Then they can draft other players, sign free agents, and make trades that will fill in the other spots. This team is garbage and cannot win even with Tortorella. A team cannot win the Stanley Cup without superstar talent and the only way the Flyers will get it is by drafting in the top 5 for the next 3-4 seasons. Just trade all players with value and ice teams that cannot win for a few years and then once they have enough assets in terms of draft picks, they'll be able to get compete.
