USA never took to this car, so I'm not at all surprised they're viewed differently over there. I think it really came down to looks. The GTO wasn't to US tastes. For the masses, US likes stuff a bit more in your face. Whereas the Monaro was exactly the right look for Australia, where buyers (not all) often like a more subtle, euro influence with their cars. On top of that you have the expectation of how the car should look based on the GTO badge. Then there's the parts availability issue. It hits both countries but in the USA, you can just go and buy a different type of V8 coupe, with tonnes of parts available. Often newer cars too So, most would just do that. That can't help values either. Other than the odd euro coupe, we only have the 2015 on Mustang as an alternative, unless you purchase a grey import. Here, we actually loved the Monaro style immediately, so we overlook the difficulties and enjoy the car as something special and rare compared to the usual 4 door V8s. My time on the US forums show that it's just another car to them. Values reflect that. I'm not sure it will ever be a revered car there.

I found some photos that I took (on paper photos lol)Sunday, of the launch Holden did inside a cafe on Acland st (?) In St Kilda, back in 2001/2. Went there to have a look and there was one of each colour. I'm a Ford guy but they are gorgeous cars! Pricks of things to get in and out of the back seat though! Holden parts even had a block mounted poster of the prototype you could buy back in the day. Bought it for my brother for his 21st, and he still has it!

Those are closer to $40k now, and that's a shitload to drop on a 20 year old car. Back then, you could also buy a rough but running and driving VX SS for 3-4k. Now people want 7-15k for the same car. Stop doing this heads and cam, supercharger bs. If you want to best reliable, drivable, leave everything stock except maybe the valve springs and build the bottom end into a stroker. Why are people so scared to leave the rest stock and just go stroker? You know you could easily spend 5-10k on the top end yet a crankshaft off summit is 1k to get you started (and it's forged). We have to change this bs theory in Aus about top end mods on LS cars. It's driving me nuts.

@nismofreak33 Жыл бұрын
because a basic cnc job on ls1 heads + conservative cam/lifter combo nets around 400hp.... and stroker kits arent cheap in aus lol
@Dan-rg7jj Жыл бұрын
@@nismofreak33 it's not always a cost by cost basis especially when supercharging is involved. But if it is a cost basis it's not that expensive to do a stroker. Have you considered the benefits? 1.Selling your pistons, rods and crank can net $500 plus. 2. You don't buy the kit you buy the crank, rods, piston/ring kit separate from the states and try to avoid import tax. 3. You don't have to clearance LS motors. 4. Chances are if treated right it won't need a bore. 5. Gen 3 rods aren't the best and you would be buying the Gen 4 rod pin type. 5. You can get the compression right and rig gap for forced in diction. 6. the old gen 3 is probably going to knock and leak eventually. 7. You would save money by not doing heads and valve train and cam. 8. A stock top end SC stroker LS1 with the right comp is going to be better then a heads cam SC LS1 with stock bottom end. 9. If staying stroker NA you could later go a small cam and springs with no other valve or head upgrads and still net a better result then doing a head job and big cam double springs push rods ect. 9. They still rev to 6k with pretty much stock top end. That's a lot more then people in diesels. 10. Let's be honest reving to 7k on the street pretty much puts you over the limit in every gear. Especially in 4l60s even tho this is a manual.
