British viewer here. I suspect that since leaving the army, Harry manages his own wardrobe. Aa a junior officer he probably shared a batman when not in an active warzone. In his defense, I wear John Lobb, Church's etc. so I appreciate quality shoes and I confess to experiencing that cold wet surprise of walking through a puddle and realizing I have worn through my sole. I destroy heels, even with segs so that's my usual clue that I need to head to the cobbler. I think blowing through the sole is less obvious....but still careless.

To be honest, as someone who put himself through college working in the Churches shoe department in Austin Reed and having visited both Church and Cheney factories in Northhampton at the start of the eighties I would rather they made these in India and kept the quality rather than make them in Northampton and cut costs. I have been very impressed with the Indian made Loakes. As to Prince Harry´s shoes. I will bet a pound to a penny these are from the real Lobb shoemaker in St James street rather than the lesser Hermes owned brand as both the late Duke of Edinburgh was a long standing customer as is King Charles III (boy, that still feels odd writing that!) and as is usually the tradition in those circles getting a pair made for the sons is a right of passage! So these are very expensive shoes! Though they have servants I am not sure the younger Royals have Valets and I think the hole is proof of that as no Valet would ever let their master wear shoes in such a condition. Just look at the uppers, they have not seen shoe polish in a while and no shoe tree either! This surprises me as he was also an officer and being ex UK forces (RAF) pretty much one of the biggest disciplines hammered home is that you have immaculate footwear ! Like most men of his age he is probably more comfortable in sneakers and these get thrown on whenever he has to wear a suit, they are probably laying festering and unloved in the back of his closet as I type!

I've been watching this channel for a while now. It's intriguing to me for three main reasons: 1. I love hands on work (took 4 years of carpentry 20 years ago in highschool, then worked at a frame & door shop thereafter before getting into technology, then working at a transformer company where I learned how to weld, braze, assemble precise jobs, just to now finally being back in tech for 8 years now. Skill sets that I wouldn't trade anything for. 2. I love shoes. 3. My mother (rest in peace) told me at a very young age, that a part of the reason she dated then married my father was because in highschool, she noticed how polished his combat boots were. And my grandmother told her that a man that takes care of his shoes is the one to look out for. Ergo if my dad didn't take care of his shoes the way he did, my mom wouldn't have given him the time of day, and I wouldn't be here watching professional cobblers restore and maintain a shoe culture the way you guys are. Truly enjoy these videos guys 👍🏾.

Irish viewer living in London, here. From the Charles Tyrwhitt website : "The majority of our shoes are made in India (through a UK manufacturer) and Portugal, our luxury range is made in England." So, I imagine at this price point these are Indian-made shoes. Many other brands are out-sourcing to India (and other countries) now. The higher quality brands such as Crockett and Jones, Trickers, Joseph Cheaney, John Lobb and Edward Green, as well as some Barkers, are still manufactured in Northampton. NPS makes shoes there for other labels. Don't expect to find many Northampton made shoes in the price bracket you quoted, though. A good pair will cost at least double what you mention and, in many cases, much more. Great work by you, as ever, nevertheless. A joy to watch (although I am not a fan of toe-taps, I have to say).

I’m one of your British viewers. These shoes retail for £149 ($166 at today’s exchange rate - you should all be visiting while the pound is weak!), which is what I’d have expected to pay for Northampton-made shoes about three decades ago. It’s possible Tyrwhitt contracts a Northampton firm to supply their shoes, but I think it’s most likely they are made in India. Both Loake and Grenson have shoemaking facilities in India. Another British brand that contracts out all its Goodyear Welted shoes to India is Oliver Sweeney (Prince Harry was spotted wearing a pair of their suede brogues).

If you buy Loake you should at least choise the 1880 series the Indian made feel like crap. My 1880s was made in England by I think european cow. Then lases and stuff they might import, but there are handmade by skilled people, they said they whent up a notch in quality when they made the suporior line, the workers wanted to br part of that so the 1880 became better. Buy them a 1/2 size bigger the insole is not nice, check the new insole you buy, I got some at a master cobler that was sharp edge (wrongly made) and they riped the inside of my shoes.

Although Loake 1880 say “made in England” on them, they actually have the uppers done in India, then sent back and the lasting and sole are done in England. Only a certain percentage of the process needs to be done in the country to be allowed the “made in England”. I think only the US requires an item to be 100% made in the country for the stamp “made in USA”. Even for Switzerland it’s just 60%

Charles Tyrwhitt shoes range in quality. Many of the ones I've seen SEEM like they're English made due to labeling, but when new some actually come with a small sticker inside that says Made in India. The sticker either falls off, or is removed before sale. Maybe the ones you got are older, or are actually marked "Northhampton".. But generally if they're not marked I assume foreign made. I've contacted Tyrwhitt before about their shoes and was given vague answers. English made shoes will always be stamped Made in England. It's an unfortunate happening in today's world.. Cole Haan, Brooks Brothers, Florsheim.. Almost all of the good heritage shoe brands of Yore are now making shoes overseas and sacrificing quality - all the while still maintaining the company's image, "heritage", and selling them for the same cost.

Their shoes is a step above Clark's but they are not shoemaking company that that has pride and heritage story to tell. If you want Northampton, can't go wrong with Crockett and Jones. There are Northampton shoes that are a step above or a step below C&J but C&J is always a good baseline.
