The best memory I have of this song was in 1972. I was heated South of Jacksonville on 95. I had just been dumped by the golddigger I was engaged to. My pal and I were headed to Miami to party for a weekend. The Playboy Club was deeply involved. About 3:00 in the morning we were listening to some AM station in South Carolina. The Skip was wide open that morning. The DJ said, "Here are the Hollies singing Long Black Woman in a Cool Dress." Everytime I hear this it makes me smile.

In 1967, David Crosby was kicked out of the Byrds. In early 1968, Buffalo Springfield broke up and Neil Young and Steven Stills' were looking for a place to land. And in December 1968, Graham Nash left The Hollies. Luckily for us, those four found each other.

As well as their great 60s music, you really have to listen to their 70s and 80s recordings as well. Not forgetting Gasoline Alley Bred, Hey Willy, The Day That Curly Billy Shot Down Crazy Sam McGee, I'm Down, Son of a Rotten Gambler, Stormy Waters, Don't Let Me Down , Sandy (4th July Ashbury Park). Then their is also Allan Clarke's solo recordings, his recording of Sunrise is brilliant. They all have so much talent.

Thanks for doing this one, it has a special place in my heart. We had been forward deployed in Japan for years and our ship changed home ports to Long Beach Ca. We were all excited to be back home as it were and the evening before we pulled into port we were steaming along at a pretty good clip and I went up on the fantail with my boombox (this was in 88). I was able to pick a US radio station and this song was playing. I cranked it up and there were maybe a dozen of us shouting dancing, it was great!

My favorite song by the Holly's He's he ain't heavy he's my brother. The song came out during the Vietnam era In the song 1 soldier carries another who is wounded To safety and help. I have never heard the song without crying. I promise it will touch you deeply. I watch you a lot and love seeing your reactions. You are 1 of a very few That has not resorted to using profanity all the way through a reaction. Thank you so much for that

The rythem guitarist is Tony Hicks. He is not given the acknowledgement he deserves! Another great hit was He Ain't Heavy, Hes My. Brother, On a Carousel, Carrie Anne, Look Thru Any Window, and a ton more! I have followed them for over 50 years, but never got to see them in person. I was supposed to see them this Sat 7/12, but thanks to the Coronavirus, the concert was cancelled. They don't like playing the USA, to crazy here I guess, lol! The singer her, is Allan Clarke, he left the band because of a medical condition. After all these years, Bobby Elliott, drummer, and Tony Hicks are the last 2 remaining members. The still sound awesome!!
