It might seem bleak, but this has been my favorite poem for as long as i can remember (I dont read much poetry, to be honest). For me its always been a sad foretelling of the world we live in. I never tried to analyze it or even try to understand what he was trying to communicate with it. After listening on your words I think I´v got a more profound understanding of the poem and its origin. In some sense I feel as it was written today. Or perhaps, that we are an exponential product of the Hollow Men of his time. Anyhow, I very much appreciated the reading and your analysis of 'The Hollow Men'. Thank you

Same here man. I really want to get this whole poem tattooed on the inner sides of both my forearms. You should check out the song "A Whimper"- by the band Selofan also "The Hollow Man"- by the band Et Nihil

Incredible, I at least excepted hundreds of comments on this and hundreds of thousands of views. It's so true what you said especially at the end, and if I could add to what you said, the world truly is a reflection of what's taking place inside of us, in other words the world is a reflection of ourselves. Should we seek to change the world then we have to begin with man first.

I had already come to your final conclusion, as we, hollow consumers, lay our planet waste. Eliot was prophetic. I love his imagery. He's been a favourite of mine since we studied Prufrock and Murder in the Cathedral, in school over 50 years ago now. Thank you for this excellent analysis of a terrifying poem.

Thanks, James. An insightful and concise analysis of a poem that has always eluded me. In fact, T.S. Elliot has eluded me. I'll now re-read his works with a fresh viewpoint in mind. Thanks for sharing your expertise.

My interpolation as to who the hollow men are are humans who have lost their sense of humanity and thus have become only knowing and being able to enact the dark side tendencies of humanity

Thank you. Very illuminating. I like how he alludes to other works in his poems. You sort of have to be a serious atudent of world literature in order to understand.

I can appreciate his poetry without understanding all his allusions, because his imagery creates such atmospheres, we can walk in his land, even half blind to his depth of meaning, while still understanding the essence of what he is saying. But having someone explain the references is so helpful to deeper, can I call it enjoyment?

Wonderful analysis that coincides beautifully with thinkers like Nietzsche, Jung and most of all Rudolf Steiner. Leads me also inevitably to think of Yeat's masterpiece "The Second Coming". The promise of a new revelation for those that are awake, not woke.

I always thought it was about people who day in day out do/did terrible things to other humans and thus have become hollow as humans lacking in humanity.

7:32 , The poem is fragmented and disorderly. do you mean disordered? i couldnt make meaning of this, could you elaborate?
@WilliamBryanRagland
@WilliamBryanRagland Жыл бұрын
I may be wrong, but I believe the poem being “fragmented and disorderly” refers to the lines not all following a similar pattern. The lines jump into different lengths and meters which can give the reader a feeling of instability. It makes you unable to predict what’s next and removes any level of comfort in the text.
