The Hollywood Squares 1986-1989 theme music # 1

This is the first version of the theme music from the syndicated 1986-1989 version of the U.S. game show "The Hollywood Squares", produced by Century Towers Productions and Orion Television. This show was hosted by John Davidson and the music is by Stormy Sacks.

I remembered growing up on this version of Hollywood Squares on USA so much when I was a wee child. I can't see why GSN won't pick up this version and reair Davidson's episodes. He did great with the panel, and the show arguably has one of the best themes of the 1980s, if not ALL shows.

I remember seeing this version of Hollywood Squares on my local CBS affiliate WSPA channel 7 until they dropped it completely in the 1988-1989 season to be replaced by Family Feud (Ray Combs syndie version) and Win Lose or Draw. And growing up as a kid I saw it on USA Network along with Pyramid Press Your Luck Scrabble etc. I was born the same month and year (September 1986) when this version of Hollywood Squares debut in first run syndication. They need to bring this version back. Haven't seen it in decades.

This was the 1st version I grew up watching on TV I use to watch it on abc affiliate station KATC-TV 3 Lafayette, LA and later on USA Network, as a matter of fact, this was the only version that aired in reruns on USA Network and the only version that has never aired in reruns on GSN, but hey, who knows? Maybe thistv might pick it up since MGM owns this version and thistv also, this version was Produced by Rick Rosner (even though his production company Rosner Television didn't produce it), Century Towers Productions and Orion Television Syndication and the theme is great God Bless Stormy Sacks for makin' this music totally awesome also, Rosner is best known as the Creator of Just Men! with Game Show Supreme Betty White who became the 1st woman to ever win a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show Host and Rosner also Created Caesars Challenge with Ahmad Rashad of the NBA on NBC and NBA Inside Stuff and he also Created Prime Time Shows like the Action Drama 240-Robert with Mark Harmon of St. Elsewhere Fame and Veteran Actress Joanna Cassidy, Lottery! with Marshall Colt and Ben Murphy of Alias Smith and Jones Fame and of course, his greatest success was Creating the Cop Comedy-Drama "CHiPs" with Larry Wilcox, Robert Pine, Randi Oakes (Mrs. Gregory Harrison) and International TV Icon Erik "Ponch" Estrada God Bless You Joan Rivers and Thanks for the Laughs, May You R.I.P.

For the last season in 1988-89, WPIX Channel 11 had this on at 6:30 p.m. weeknights right after the remake of The Gong Show at 6 p.m. After a while WPIX moved TNHS to 12 noon I believe, then if I'm not mistaken, something like 9 a.m. or 9:30 a.m. weekdays.

For the first season, WTVQ and WLKY carried the show (the latter of which aired right after Wheel of Fortune), for the second season, WAVE 3 carried it (as a lead-in to The $100,000 Pyramid (later Win, Lose or Draw), The New Newlywed Game and The People’s Court) and for the third season, WDKY carried it (as a lead-in to Wipeout, hosted by the late Peter Tomarken).

@MegastarLV John Davidson was quirky, but he actually fit the show. It went downhill with Whoopi and all these new clowns. Only thing I didn't like with the Davidson show was Joan Rivers.

Tom was great. especially considering he like Peter Marshall before him had no prior game show experience (Bergeron came from talk and magazine shows, Marshall was a stage actor/singer) IMO Bergeron is tied with Marshall as best Squares host, Davidson was a good host, nice affable but sometimes seemed like Guy Smiley at times. And as for John Bauman, hes better panelist than host. he tried his best but when you aint got it, you aint got it.

@darkpowrjd The worst place for the audience (IMO) was probably the Tom Bergeron version because besides the fact that you could see the grid perfectly (which was a good thing, at least), the audience could only see the back of the contestant area (some had to lean as far as they could to the right).

Nope, Shadoe only announced the first four years of Bergeron's version, which Jeffrey Tambor and Henry Winkler sharing the announcing duties for the fifth season and John Moschitta, Jr. announcing the final season.

Looking at that set, a few things puzzled me. 1. How in the hell did the contestants get up to and down from that area. I'm sure there's probably steps behind them, but I could never really figure it out as a child. 2. That had to be the WORST place for an audience to be placed. Imagine the sore necks because they were trying to see the contestants from that weird spot almost directly above and to the left of the audience!

This version was going along well until they messed with the endgame. Instead of a 1 in 5 (then 1 in 4, 1 in 3, etc) chance to win a car, it was one in nine no matter how long the champion stayed on. That's when I lost interest in it, at least.

I actually don’t remember changing the endgame. I always recalled a 1 in 5 chance and every day you remained champion, your odds increased to 1 in 4, etc.
