Is there something he does to affect the way the string vibrates after it's plucked? Obviously not. The guitar sounds the way it sounds, and another guitar won't sound the same as this one just because the same player is using it. The way a string vibrates has to do with how it's plucked and the design of the thing plucking it. If he showed you how he plucks and you used the same pick, you could pluck a string just like him with a little practice. Honestly, guitar players make way too much of the "tone-is-in-the-fingers" thing. It's not magic. It's just the way he developed his style over the years. WHEN he plucks in whatever way is a different thing. That's dynamic phrasing. That can also be mimicked with practice, but why do that? I'm going to be a little critical of Chris. First, Chris is the most well-spoken guitarist I know of. The way he words sentences is indicative of a very good education. I enjoy his playing a lot, but some of the precious slides and melodies in the higher registers get a bit tiresome for me. Not that he should change anything about his playing or compositional style, but it's perhaps a bit sentimental for a Thelonious Monk/Scott Henderson fan. The tonal characteristics of this guitar come from how all the components combine to damp various freq's. The old wood and the worn off FB finish are part of that, as are the relatively week A2 or A3 pickup poles used back then. It definitely did not sound the same when it was born.

I'm an old man, 66, & not a very good guitarist (never really put in the time or effort). I love music & the guitars that music is made with so even though I'm not much of a guitarist I still know a thing or two just from being around it for so long. With that said I really appreciate you, your channel, your content & have to say, I have really seen you grow not only in your ability to play but your style as well. Keep up the good work & thank you again for the all the great content.

I tuned in because I wanted to find out how magic the Nocaster was. Problem was, Chris Buck was playing it. I quickly got absorbed in the magic of his playing and forgot about the Nocaster. I honestly believe Chris Buck could create mesmerising music from a broom handle and baling wire. I cannot think of a single guitar player today who gives me so much pleasure listening to - and gives me so much inspiration and despair, in equal amounts - as Chris Buck. Thanks, mate. Now, about that Nocaster.....

A Nocaster is literally the 1st electric guitar I ever saw. My uncle had it delivered by Leo during the legal limbo period. I didn't start playing for a few years, but always looked forward to visits. He let me play it every time I visited. Always knew it was unusual, but really freaked out when the prices shot over $100k. Sadly, he died years ago & left it to his grandson(he never gotten past the 3 chords a cloud of dust). After an accident, he was paralyzed & the guitar was never played again. I gave up trying to get it from them.

I was fortunate to see Roy Buchanan, Danny Gatton and Tom Principato play locally here in northern Virginia, DC and Maryland. All these guys were Telecaster maestros. Roy lived a couple of miles from me in Reston. He ended his life in a Reston jail...what a loss! I spent many years pissed at authority...but the sound of that Nocaster is mesmerizing. Thank you Chris for reminding all of us what this instrument meant to the history of the electric guitar.
