Sweet video Nathan! I’ve been watching TFL since 2012 and really enjoy your reviews and just how “real you are”. I think the Passport AWD is actually more capable than a 4x4 Laredo, which only has Quadra trac 1. The Laredo has a single speed T case with a 16.2:1 crawl ratio. (I’m not even sure if it’s a real T-case. Maybe it’s really AWD?). The Passport has a PTU (they call it a T case, but there’s no mechanical lock in speed front to rear). The Passport has a rear LSD with a 20.4:1 crawl ratio. Unless the Passport goes up against a Trailhawk or a Grand Cherokee with the quadratrac 2, the Passport is actually a little bit more capable. I’ve taken mine to imogene Pass, albeit, it’s lifted 3.5” and on 32.1” tires, and I’ve completed the entire 9 mile fins n things trail.
@Boguardis
@Boguardis Жыл бұрын
That's why I feel like Jeep drivers/fans just blow smoke up everyone's ass. The Cherokee is still a unibody construction. Most AWD 4x4 will get the job done with proper clearance and tires. Anyone saying this can't go off road is just gate keeping and gaslighting.

Hey Nathan and crew.... great review. I love my Honda Passport. Just a note, I noticed you guys run these with the ECON button engaged (I see the green leaf on cluster) ... that really dampens the throttle when you use that button.... Takes all the fun out of it. The best part of it is, unlike the Grand Cherokee, I get over 25 or 26mpg on the highway. It's a great vehicle!

The Passport is rated at 24 mpg highway, but people are reporting 29 highway. I can believe it because I have a 3.5" lift on mine, root top tent and a 180 degree awning and 600 lbs. from all the mods and gear, and 32.1" tires (which are 2.5" taller than oem. I get 22 mpg on flat land, calm winds and at 65 mph. Makes sense, because my mods should take away more than just 2 mpg. a 6-7 mpg loss sounds more accurate.
@fredv7487
@fredv7487 2 жыл бұрын
@@joshc606 Well Josh you make a comment like that without weighting all the facts. I get 10 to 11 miles to the gallon more then my gas counterpart. So if we use 5 gal base my gas counterpart on 87 octane would pay $18.39 go 85 miles. With 5 gal of diesel I pay $19.43 and can go 130 miles. So I fail to see the fact in your comment. Just saying. Base tfl getting 17 mpg on their rebel compared to mine getting 26 mpg.
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 2 жыл бұрын
@@fredv7487 that’s awesome. You’d probably get even more mpg if you get a turbo diesel tune. My friends F250 tremor gets 23 MPG and with a 48 gallon gas tank, he has 1100 mile range. TFL did a mpg test on the new Tundra and it got 25.5 mpg. That’s with the 3.0 twin turbo ! Awesome to see big heavy trucks getting better MPGs. I think my next vehicle will be some kind of turbo hybrid, but with the Passport turning 3 years old, I expect Atleast another 4 years out of her. I’m already at 97K miles.

So disappointing that the 2024 Passport looks exactly the same. I’m waiting for the redesign to have a boxier shape like the new Pilot. Hey Waldemar! I was browsing through the comment section :P thanks for the kind words. That's so strange Honda doesn't offer something like this. After all, Honda is a Japanese car company. I was told that the Passport/Pilot/Ridgeline is engineered by Americans (USA people) and of course built in America with most of the parts and components being manufactured in America (and when I say America, I mean USA, haha).
@valdius85
@valdius85 2 жыл бұрын
@@JonDZ_Adventuring Honda is a giant. Honda USA and Honda Japan car divisions are different in many regards. H. Cars sell mostly k-cars and minivans. CR-V is made in Japan for that market, but due to low amount of orders it's expensive, which causes low sales. Stupid is very close to technical description of their marketing strategy. :( All that at the time of an SUV boom in Japan right now... I actually was sad about that. I like Forester, but CR-V was more comfortable. Saying that, the visibility was bad and there was lack of features like heated steering wheel at the time.
@valdius85
@valdius85 2 жыл бұрын
@@JonDZ_Adventuring BTW: I bought a Forester. And that's after I watched all of your content for featuring your Forester :) It was 30% cheaper than CR-V and RAV4 and the technical know-how is much higher in Japanese dealerships, so I decided it's worth the risk. Also it's much easier to replace the CVT oil in Japan. I do not do off-road, but I do need good AWD for snow, mud etc. I go to the mountains for hunting and for trips with my family. I like it A LOT. Square trunk, excellent visibility. Very good AWD for my needs. I reacts quickly so I haven't experienced much wheel spin in bad weather conditions. As I have a hybrid and drive very smoothly, the fuel efficiency is decent as well. Eyesight is great on long trips, especially when it's windy. My dream car would be a Passport the side or the Forester with w 2.5l NA engine. :) Saying that, if I ever achieve my dream of having a cabin, I'll likely buy Suzuki Jimmy Sierra :)

Why did you guys stop doing the wheel testing that Tommy used to do that tells more then these things do as the conditions are never the same to compare unlike the wheel tesing

I will never buy another Honda, our 2014 CRV has not lived up anywhere near the Honda’s Reputation, but I watched cause it’s The Wild Man of the TFL Team, the one and only Nathan Knievil, anything could happen 😬 funny how I’m always surprised there’s a cameraman even though I know there is, Alex you did a great job! Nathan made it back home right side up, not on fire that’s a good thing!
