I was surprised to hear on an RNZ report about the nz economy that in 1960, there were 100,000 dwellings constructed in NZ. So why are we not able build that many each year?

It's a really good question. About 30 years of underinvestment in infrastructure & apprenticeships training has lead to the situation we are in today.
