The Horizon Zero Dawn "Minimum System Requirements" Gaming PC

Today I put together a gaming PC based on the developer suggested specs for Horizon Zero Dawn. This PC port (at the time of upload) has caused many to complain of performance issues, so how does it do with an old 6 core CPU and hot R9 GPU?

So unoptimized. A PS4 game that requires a GTX 780 or R9 290 MINIMUM lmao. People with RX 570 can barely play it at 60 FPS average at 1080p Low settings, GTX 1050 Ti runs at 40 FPS at 1080p Low. Many people with budget gaming PCs will have trouble even at 1080p low.

@Salt Maker You're right about the GTX 780 being a POS, but that's because it has terrible Vulkan/DX12 support and because Nvidia doesn't bother with getting drivers onto that thing anymore. People are pointing out that over the course of like 6 years, games which target 1080p 30fps on the PS4 have a predictable performance spread across PC hardware from the GTX 9-series onwards. If a GTX 1060 or RX 570 can't do 60fps with console-like settings at 1080p, then something's wrong (either on the manufacturer's end or Guerilla's). Like, Red Dead 2 gets a bad rap on PC, but it mostly sticks to that 1080p60 console settings target on the GTX 1060, and that's a newer game with DX-12 support. Horizon just doesn't perform like we'd expect games, both old and new, to perform on certain graphics cards when factoring how it does on the base PS4. So in short, I disagree with that "it's just way more demanding, you need to upgrade" point of view. [Edit] Also, hard disagree on that "go big or go home" mentality. You can get a great experience on the lower end, and that elitism could scare off potential PC builders. The "low-end" in terms of new GPUs is in the Rx-570/GTX 1060 range, and for relatively little money you can get 60fps at 1080p in just short of every game out there, provided you don't mind setting things down to medium. And given the modular nature of PCs, when the PS5 and Series X come out, you can upgrade your graphics card then, and your CPU as needed. Low-end doesn't mean bad.

@Salt Maker The 700-series wasn't that hot overall, was it? Certainly didn't age as well as the competing R7 200-series, but then again, AMD FineWine and all that. Crazy how everyone was saying back then that you don't need 2 gigs of VRAM for 1080p, and maybe that was true then, but certainly not nowadays. Anyway, my condolences to anyone who bought a 780 TI back in 2013 💀

My Hypothesis: The game.exe is a PS4 emulator. That explains why it runs so slow with basically same video quality.

3:17 if you record in mkv I believe then if a part of the video gets corrupted then the rest of the video will still be usable. Try looking into that, it would probably save you some time

My 9700k, 32GB, RTX 2070 OC defaulted to the "prefer quality" preset at 1440p and in the bench can't maintain 60fps and dips into the mid 40's at times. At "original" it has no issues staying at or above 60. But when the system far exceeds the recommended requirements of a 4770k and a 1060 I'd expect a solid 60 on high.

@@ivann9924 in the video he got 50fps average on MUCH weaker hardware so I wouldn't even worry about it. Rx 570 will easily run this game no problems. 8gb of ram looks fine if you only play low settings 1080p. No I haven't bought the game but it'll definitely run on your machine.

I just had to move on from that same Zalman case. Super hard to find. Would of bought another one cause mine was 7-9 years old and was busted up. Had the black and red version. Ended up getting a Zalman X3 which is still hard to find. Love this case!

Before the release I saw some benchmarks and the performance looked pretty bad but after playing this game myself I am actually very pleased with the performance. I'm getting 90-110fps on 1440p and Ultra settings. the game feels very smooth. in some extreme cases with rain in the darkness it can drop down to 70fps but that is very rare. I'm currently on a 2080Ti but my CPU is quite old, a 1700X. lucky for me this game is not very demanding on the CPU.

Well they certainly forced me to play it on 30 on my rx570 as pushing for a locked 60 was not achievable on medium/low so I set some things to high and some to ultra and locked the frames to 30.

I picked this game up yesterday because I've been singing it's praises since it came out on PS4. I don't have a PS4 anymore so I was excited to hear it was coming to PC. Reading over the reviews, I had downloaded it but decided not to even boot it up yet until the issues were patched. Most of the issues I'm hearing with it aren't FPS-related, they're more stability problems. That's way more important to me. I don't want to be soured on my first experience with it on PC, so I'll just wait a while.

The game is absolute SHITE on PC. It was released in a beta state and has weeks of tweaking to be done by the devs before it's even playable on certain hardware. I've had the game load w/ super low res textures and an abysmal poly count that made it look as though low spec gamer had done some WORK. Otherwise, it loads w/ missing textures everywhere and lacking performance to say the least. Of course, Steam claims I've played the game for hours when I haven't played it at all--Completely exempting my refund.

The black squares flickering and basically technical issues in the game are very easy to explain because this is a shitty port. I have the game run on i7 6700K, GTX 1080 Ti and 16GB of Ram and the game is unplayable. When the game is decided to working, my PC can run this game very smooth on 1440p resolution (60+FPS). Although, there are stuttering and texture flickering here and there but it's not that annoying as the next one and that is, the game is constantly crashing, especially in cutscene. Most of my time with the game, it will crash in cutscene. It can still crash when exploring the world map but not as consistence as in cutscene. Great game, shit port.

i wouldnt mind seeing a deeper dive into this game. Since you a budding up to the limit of the RAM i would think that is where you are getting the "blocky smoke" from since the VRAM on the GPU was nearing its limit. So maybe upgrading the RAM to 16GB would help in that department.

I have a question, hopefully anyone can help me. As far as I know, the "original" option on the graphic settings is that the game uses the very same graphic as the PS4 has. I played this game earlier in my PS4 years ago and everything was really smooth. Now for the PC version, I'm using the original setting and the framerate drops so bad whenever I'm entering a settlement or crowded place. Is this because the game is currently not well optimized yet? Will future update (probably) fixed it? My current spec is 5600 XT + i5 9400f with 16 GB of ram, I think it's more than enough to handle this game.

I have a r9 290 I bought for 30$ but it has a over heating issue I've replaced the cpu paste the thermal pads cleaned it the fan works fine but it just always over heats any ideas ?

Would a B450 am4 motherboard (or a A320 motherboard) would fit in a HP pavilion a6200n case? Asking before I buy parts for a case that won’t fit.

I just finished the campaign, ran on a I7 2600k at 4.5ghz , a gtx 1070 and 16gb of ram. Ran the game at a mix of ultra and high. Mostly ran arround 60fps except when riding at full speed and in really crazy citty and battle scenes where it would drop to 40ish. Was it perfect, no but I enjoyed myself. Good game

The problem with platform exclusive titles is that by the time that title moves to another platform, if it even does, most people have already forgotten about it and have moved on. And yeah while there will always be people that have been itching to play it, the actual fanatics of that title would have already went to whatever platform it was released on.

HZD is playable at 1080p Ultimate on my laptop (3550H + RX560X) with Adaptive Resolution keeping the FPS at 30. It's _stunning_ .

Even i bought this game from steam.. at the very first time of launching the game, it was hilariously laggy.. but soon as the game progressed it started working well. But still i find that game lags in between whenever it comes to showing large textures(like blasting, rapid events). Is there any fix for this?

3:10 Use MKV file format if possible for this reason alone! You might need to convert later but at least you know you can use the footage regardless of what happens to your system as MKV doesn't require the file to be completed like MP4.

Running an i7 6700k with a RTX 2080 Super, 16gb DDR4 3000 and FPS is all over the place. It averages around 80fps with extreme settings, but can go up to 200 and down to 40. I had to run the optimisation three times as it kept crashing at 99.8%. It also decided to start filling up my OS drive, presumably with a swap file.

Great test, the consoles run at 30fps, meaning if you upped the graphics to medium it should be on par to the PS4. Although I wouldn't be surprised if PS4 slim runs at a low texture setting, a GTX 970 should have no problems running this AAA game with higher settings.
