I have a lot of respect for mountain climbers. Their bravery is unquestionable. However, "climbing disaster" is simply something that happens to those that do it long enough. The mountain did not ask to be conquered. Its difficult to feel sorry for any but those who survive them. They do it for the love of the sport and the challenge but in the end what have they accomplished. For some, climbing is an addiction and like many addictions, it eventually extracts the ultimate price.

@@KatWoodland Cause it’s prohibitively expensive with little use in repeat missions. The point of the Apollo program, other than a one off GOAT propaganda victory, was the scientific knowledge garnered by solving all the problems associated with people in space - once you’ve proven that you’ve done it once, twice, three times successfully - there’s not many reasons to spend another $300,000,000 to $450,000,000 ($2,500,000,000 to $3,500,000,000 after inflation today) for each successive launch. There’s no serious doubt that the moon was landed on. Even ignoring all of the scientists and engineers who count in the hundreds of thousands of people who would all need to be collectively lying with the exact same, perfectly rehearsed fiction, even ignoring the fact that the ISS is visible from Earth and there have been satellites orbiting Earth since the early 1960s. The easiest piece of evidence, and the one that all of you moon conspiracy people always entirely miss - If the United States faked the moon landing why would the USSR just go along with that fiction? The USSR had satellites, they had put a man in space before the USA, they were a global superpower actively engaged in a space race against the USA. If the United States was lying about placing mirrors on the moon then why would the USSR not point out how this could be easily falsified by shining a laser at the mirrors? If there was even the slightest chance that the moon landing was faked the Soviets would have jumped on it with everything they had - imagine the propaganda victory for them if they had some sort of evidence that proved the US had falsified the moon landing; that never happened because the moon landing was clearly a real event.

That’s not how it works. Avalanches are mostly caused by changes in the weather, especially warm fronts. The snow that was frozen to the mountains starts to warm up and melt, causing it to come off and slide down the mountain. So using explosives before the climb even begins would have limited effect because the weather would still be cold at that point. But it might not be hours later.
