How can we ban a movie like "Gone with the Wind" just for the simple fact that it features a black woman as a maid, played by Hattie McDaniel the role that brought her the Oscar. Being the first black woman in history to win an Oscar. In my opinion, it is a big mistake !!.

Hattie McDaniel said that she would rather make $17,000.00 a week or more as an Actress in Hollywood than other work she could do which would pay much less. She lived in a beautiful Home in Los Angeles and enjoyed her life without the cares of want for the rest of her life. She loved the work and the money she was able to make in Hollywood. which was more than most whites or blacks could ever conceive of making at the time. Plus she received the coveted Academy Award which any Hollywood Star of the time would have given anything to have won.

Hattie McDaniel did all right. McDaniel had purchased her white, two-story, seventeen-room house in 1942. The house, located at 2203 South Harvard Boulevard in Los Angeles, included a large living room, dining room, drawing room, den, butler's pantry, kitchen, service porch, library, four bedrooms and a basement. McDaniel had a yearly Hollywood party. Everyone knew that the king of Hollywood, Clark Gable, could always be found at McDaniel's parties.

Love to quote her , she said “we could give ourselves heirs, get all dressed up like racehorses but we’re just mules in horse harness and we weren’t foolin anybody “! But you know, I believe some families truly did love their (slaves) and if you watch the movie Scarlett really did, even though maybe they didn’t realize how wrong it was because that’s all they ever knew. Especially the kids that were pretty much raised by them. I wish I could go back now and change that mistake but I can’t. I hope people realize that with the Oscars even in 1939 the Awards were chosen by counting the number of votes cast by fellow actors and actresses, and other members of the Oscar Guild. Though Hattie may NOT have been allowed to sit at the same table as the White cast of GWTD who were nominated she was definitely invited to be there by Sales. That was back then a huge sign of respect for her by Sales. I disagree with the word horrific in the title of this video. Yes it was shameful in the fact that she wasn't allowed to enter the front door or sit with the White cast members. BUT as I reminded people, the MAJORITY of ALL THOSE actors and actresses, WHITE or NOT colored, VOTED FOR Hattie to receive the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. It's also VERY PLAIN to see in that OLD FILM CLIP after Hattie's name was announced as the winner of that Oscar how TRULY HAPPY that AUDIENCE was for her to have won by the GENUINE SMILES on their faces plus how very hard they were applauding for her. As far as I was taught, those above voting actions by the majority of that audience, and then how they reacted later after she had won the Oscar IS NOT really horrific. Shameful yes. But NOT horrific.

I didn't know until recently how badly some of our most talented and beloved stars were treated simply because of their race?! Such bigotry is reprehensible and beyond understanding. It's good to see that Hattie and many others like her, were able to rise above all of that, and let their true characters shine through. Today's generation have a great example to follow. It was heart warming to discover that Clark Gable remained on side, and that they stayed friends. 💕

And, apparently according to recent reports, Hattie is continuing to be a victim, this time the PC crowd has stopped the streaming of GWTW due of its portrayal of events during the Civil War.
