If you're ever charged with a serious crime and are appointed an attorney by the state, you're cooked. Not saying that your wrong about the dads morals being awful, but don't ever let your loved ones have a public defender represent them if you can help it. They will get a bad deal at best, max punishment at worst. Now , cases like this the max punishment is deserved. But there's other laws that aren't violent crimes that still bring heavy sentences. A court appointed attorney is about on par with a college kid who took a law course for a semester representing you
@wendys3909 ай бұрын
@@kenw2225 That's actually not true for all of them. It's always one's wish and best if one can hire private counsel, but I've been represented by some excellent public defenders. I was a defendant as well as a legal secretary. With the experience they have, if the case load isn't too huge they are lawyers the same as any other, they just happen to work for the State. What you say is "folk wisdom," but it isn't true in all cases. I just hate seeing all PD's get a bad rap like they do, and hate seeing defendants sweat it because they've got a PD instead of private counsel. I've watched a lot of true crime videos and none of them got to me like this one did. And that is because this is my home town. I remember when this happened. I went to school with Jamie, though I was a few grades below her and didn't really know her. I remember how on edge the town was after what happened. If you look at the google maps images, it's a pretty isolated town. You've got a pretty good amount of trees between you and your neighbor unless you're on a culdesac really. I remember going to pick up my sister from a friend's house the day after this happened when my dad hear about it. And this friend lived very close to the Cates house. My dad had me look out the window as we were driving and tell him if I saw anyone in the woods. I didn't know it was because the murderers were still lose at the time but I was on edge. I remember when Jaime came back to school. She was in a wheelchair. She had scars on her face and her one foot was all bandaged up and she just looked like she'd been through hell. We all knew what had happened and her first day back pretty much the whole school during morning recess, while waiting for school to start, was around Jaime Cates at one point or another. She had her group of friends with her, one of them pushing her chair, and I remember she was smiling. Despite what happened, I think that the support of her friends, and the entire little elementary school, was really helpful. The whole town was there to support the Cates family, and most of the surrounding towns too. Mont Vernon is a very small town. You don't really hear about it outside of local news about local events or artisans. With two exceptions. This case, which is the thing that my sweet little home town has unfortunately become the most known for outside of southern NH, and that Alex Preston who came in 3rd on American Idol was from here. It's a close-knit little town. This case touched everyone because we just don't get this sort of crime there. And it saddens me that this will be all that some people will ever know about my wonderful little home town.

@KathyHussey0632 жыл бұрын
@@tillitsdone Yes they do, they need to pay attention to their kids or they won't see it when their thinking takes a bad turn. My own kid, meek, mild, sweet (up until that moment, I'd always THOUGHT) at 14 shocked me totally by saying something I NEVER expected to hear. If I hadn't been regularly spending enough time with him so that I'd noticed the mood changes in him back then and then took the time to diligently press him for what the problem was, I don't know what he may've done over his extreme jealousy over a girl (whom he'd never told he liked). He had rage simmering in there. Young people are very short sighted, they've no idea how long 15 to 30 years in jail is or LIFE. They're full of hormones that are kicking in and usually lack the vital ability to handle their emotions or think logically, once emotions take over. They've been broughtt up in the 1sr generations to experience life in a culture that's seeping with graphic violent images, stories, news about horrific violence coming at them 7/24's in every media. Their surging hormones & OTHER teens, peer pressure, have great sway over them too. So all parents better pay enough attention to their teens, young adults so they can try to avoid the day they have to know one of their kids did something like this and watch as their lives are flushed down the toilet and the incredible guilt they'll feel if they could've stopped such a thing from happening. Granted, it's not always possible to know they are going to do something like this, which is all the more horrifying so get your underage kids all the help they need and guide them well all their lives. Scared me to death, still scares me, that, 18 years ago, had I missed the warning signs or ignored them that my treasured son probably would've done an absolutely senseless act of violence, thinking that would solve his problems.

People that demonize firearms are horrible people that often have private security and live in gated communities. I wish more people knew that between 500,000 and 3,000,000 people in the US every year save their own lives by being armed. A gun is just a tool and the more good people that have them the worse off the bad people are. Better to have one and not need it than to need one and not have it. Everyone thinks they are safe until it happens to them. We need to realize the world is evil. It always has been and it always will be. Disarming the good guys only empowers the evil ones.

Thanks for recommending this case. I stumbled on Christopher Gribbles testimony one night when looking for something else. Good to have Mike give a broader perspective

That William Marx character looks like an even creepier version of a young Phil Spector 🤭 Good job as usual, Mike. Happy Halloween! 🧡🖤🧡🖤

Thanks for doing this one Mike. I recommend it a while back. As a corrections officer I had to deal with Gribble in prison. He's a real weirdo, Creepy Chris for sure. I always say that's a woman's worst nightmare, to be home alone and have lunatics break in with evil intent.

He is immensely creepy just in the video, can't imagine what he is like in person.

I'm so glad you are covering this case. I cannot wait to hear the jabs you might have stored up for that cheeky lad who looks like he'd cry at the drop of a hat. Like seriously, what a freaking tool.

That poor girl, I’m glad she has her father. She’s going to need as much support as possible

Oh, my gawd. I had to look away. What is WRONG with people?? That poor family. This one left me angry and heartbroken. You're telling me no one recognized these kids as dangerous? It's just sick. This must have been a very difficult one to cover, Mike. Well done with what can only be described as monstrous.

It's always the ones you most expect... if you actually care to look. The problem is, when it's white boys, until they actually permanent delete someone it's "boys will be boys, tee hee!"

Kids are groomed, taught to do these things. Load them up with medications and you got mkultra scenario.
@themischief4202 жыл бұрын
@@dr.floridaman4805 that's literally not how mkultra worked. it specifically involved giving people lsd, abusing, brainwashing and programming them. putting someone on meds isn't gonna do SHIT close to that
@Bettinasisrg2 жыл бұрын
My point exactly, society has been groomed to think nonviolent drug users (notice no drug using by these guys) are demons, and if I say my neighbor is doing drugs SWAT will bust the door down yet someone says their friend is talking about killing and EATING people and nothing is done??!!! And the one kid had been diagnosed so they knew he was dangerous?!! Society needs to realize that we need to go after violence not nonviolence!!
@carbine0909092 жыл бұрын
@@dr.floridaman4805 only one kid was on meds and he was off them at the time. no one was groomed, you're using that word out of context.

You got the best channel around! You are great at the delivery and research! You should look in Harold laundry of Louisiana..Louisiana let him walk on his crime to go on and get convicted overseas for the worst crime a person can do. ( trying to keep it clean and not ruin anything for anyone wanting to look into it) my father was best friends with his brother. Crazy
